Mysterious Billy Smith 11-2-4 (11)

Joe Walcott 31-2-4 (20)

Pre-Fight Commentary: If Smith can get inside and let loose, Walcott won't stand too long. However, that's a big if. Walcott has a good defense and can take a punch. A brawler vs. boxer bout coming up. The winner of this fight could have their choice of either fighting Ryan for the Welterweight crown or taking claim of the vacant Middleweight title. The winner will definatly be considered seriously for the vacated title, but this i snot officially for the Middleweight crown.

Ding.....Ding.....Ding

Round 1: A great first round with lots of action. Both fighters landed their shots, but Smith got in a few extra power shots to take the round. (Round to Smith)

Round 2: Another good round with the action going back and forth. This round is too close to call. (Round Even)

Round 3: It's dying down a bit but both fighters are still firing off shots. Another too close to call round. (Round Even)

Round 4: A big round for Smith. He started off the round strong landing a couple of clean shots. The middle of the round was the same as rounds 2 and 3, but in the last 30 seconds Smith unleashed a few shots that stunned Walcott. (Round to Smith)

Round 5: Another strong round by Smith. Walcott is landing shots and being active, but Smith did a little more than Walcott in this round. (Round to Smith)

Round 6: A big round for both fighters. Back and forth all of the way. Very close round with Walcott getting the slight nod. (Round to Walcott)

Round 7: Walcott was effectivly silenced in this round as Smith pounded away on him and opened a cut over his left eye. (Round to Smith)

Round 8: With the cut now closed, Walcott got back into the thick of this in another great round. More back and forth action in a round that is again, too close to call. (Round Even)

At the (kind of) halfway point, I have 3 rounds even for the opposite reason of the Lavigne-Griffo fight. There's a lot of action in this fight and both are getting their shots in. I have it 4-1 with 3 even for Billy Smith, but those even rounds could go either way.

Round 9: The action dies down a bit which favors Walcott. He did his best work defensivly in this round. (Round to Walcott)

Round 10: Late in this fight, and Walcott is started to put together a few rounds here of his own. This was easily Walcott's best round and easily Smith's worst. (Round to Walcott)

Round 11: The fighters are starting to get tired and the action from both of them is dying down now. It looked like it was even, but Smith poured it on near the end and scored a few power shots. (Round to Smith)

Round 12: It picks up in this round as I guess Smith got his second wind. He pressed the action and landed some nice shots. Walcott got his shots in too, but it was Smith this round. (Round to Smith)

Round 13: Smith really goes after Walcott in this round and doesn't let up. Near the end of the round, Smith landed two big punches that left Walcott stunned and hurt. (Round to Smith)

Walcott needs to go for the KO, even though chances are that means he'll end up getting KO'ed by the hard hitting Smith. But at this point, it's a chance he'll need to take.

Round 14: A very even round until the last minute when Walcott landed several clean shots. Unfortunaly, they didn't really do any damage. (Round to Walcott)

Round 15: Walcott comes out trying to get the KO, but it was useless. He didn't have what it takes to match Smith on the inside and he ended up getting knocked down to the canvas himself. Although he did get up to finish the round, he did not look good at the end of it. (Round to Smith)

I have the fight 8-4 with 3 Even. If the even ones went to Walcott, he'd still lose. Ringside expert, Dan Cuoco, had the fight 10-4 with 1 Even for Smith

After 15 rounds of action, we go to the referee's scorecard...he scores the bout 8 rounds to 6 for your winner......JOE WALCOTT!

Post Fight Commentary
UNBELEIVABLE! The referee gives the fight to Joe Walcott! The crowd is in an uproar and are completely disgusted with the dicision. Chants of "FIX! FIX!" can be heard and Mysterious Billy Smith is visibly angry. Joe Walcott quickly leaves the ring to avoid the crowd.

Looking at the referee's scorecard, he had Walcott winning rounds 8-12, even though round 12 were definatly for Smith, and most thought Smith won round 11. He also gave rounds 4 and 5 to Walcott, even though it was clearly Smith winning those rounds. The funny thing is, he gave round 14, one that was clearly for Walcott, to Smith. Maybe trying to make it look not too obvious?

This will definatly go down in history as a big, controversial decision. Officially, Joe Walcott gets the win, but I doubt many people will listen to his claim for the middleweight title, nor will many think he deserves a rematch with Tommy Ryan. If anything, they'll want redemption. That means a rematch with Mysterious Billy Smith.

Jimmy Barry 36-0-0 (25)

Casper Leon1-1-0 (1)

I'm guessing that Casper Leon was an established fighter at this point, but boxrec.com doesn't have much on this guy.

Pre-Fight Commentary: Casper Leon is a boxer-counter puncher, Barry is a very strong boxer that can slug it out. Although Leon is a very capable fighter, Barry is just too good. Barry is by far the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world today. Leon will have a tough time in this one.

Ding.....Ding.....Ding

Round 1: A very slow round with little action, and the crowd is letting the fighters know it. Hardly anything happened. (Round Even)

Round 2: The round started slow again, but one of Barry's punches finally found its mark and stunned Leon. Barry started throwing then and Leon covered up for much of the round. (Round to Barry)

Round 3: Now the action is picking up. Barry lands a huge shot that stuns Leon and goes to work. But then Leon recovers and starts landing his own shots, but as the round ended, Barry was all over Leon. (Round to Barry)

Round 4: The crowd jeers loudly as the fighters basically just clinched then entire time. (Round to Leon)

Round 5: Barry comes out and wins the first minute of the round, but Leon comes back and uses the jab effectively to win minutes 2 and 3. (Round to Leon)

Round 6: Barry looks like he's had enough and he comes out looking for the KO. He spends the entire round bouncing Leon around the ring but can not get him down. With time running out in the round, Leon lands a right that opens a gash over the left eye of Barry. It looks bad. (Round to Barry)

Round 7: Good work by the corner of Barry to get the cut closed. He comes out landing a few but Leon uses the jab and counters Barry and ends up winning the round. (Round to Leon)

Round 8: An even round for the first two minutes, but in the last minute Barry unleashed a few shots that hurt Leon. (Round to Barry)

At the halfway point. I have it 4-3-1 for Barry. A much closer fight than I thought it would be. Ringside expert, Jaret Morgan, has the fight 4-2-2 for Barry.

Round 9: Barry starts off by hitting a few good shots and then controls the action most of the way. A couple of flurries at the end of the round by Leon are too little, too late. (Round to Barry)

Round 10: Just like that!! Barry lands a hook flush across Leon's face that opened a cut under his left eye. From there Barry proceeded to just pound away on Leon and the referee had to jump in to end it.

The fight ends at 2:38 of the 10th round...your winner by technical knock out...and STILL UNDEFEATED, UNDISPUTED BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD...JIMMY "LITTLE TIGER" BARRY!!

Post-Fight Commentary: Leon put up a hell of fight, but it was just a matter of time before Barry landed a shot and it was all over. Barry retains his Bantamweight crown.

Mysterious Billy Smith - Joe Walcott 2

Walcott and Smith have signed to fight each other again, and this time it will be for the vacated Middleweight title. Their first fight ended in a controversial decision going Walcott's way. This time, Smith promises not to sit back, he's going to press Walcott the entire time. The fight will take place July 12th.

Young Griffo - George "Kid" Lavigne 3
In other rematch news, the trilogy will become complete. Griffo and Lavigne first fought for the vacated Lightweight title on April 17th of last year in which Lavigne won a very close 7-6 decision. In their rematch on January 30th of this year, Griffo won a 10-4 decision, but it wasn't as much as a blow out as the decision might suggest. It was a very lacluster effort by both fighters in a fight where the crowd spent more time jeering both fighters than anything else. This fight is scheduled for October 28th

John L. Sullivan's Top 5

The Top 5 Most Boring Rounds

John L. Sullivan has compiled his top 5 most boring rounds in recent boxing history. These are the rounds of boxing that no one wants to see, see again, or even remember

Number 5: January 25th, 1894: Round 13 of James J. Corbett vs. Charley Mitchell - This fight was number 5 last time for most brutal, not it's number 5 for most boring. This was the most uneventful round in heavyweight title fight history.

Number 4: May 28th, 1894: Round 10 of George "Old Chocolate" Godfrey vs. Peter Maher - In a fight that featured several rounds of great action, this round stood out as a stinker.

Number 3: January 30th, 1895: Round 1 of Young Griffo vs. George "Kid" Lavigne - The opening round to one of the dullest fights in recent memory set the tone for the entire fight. Seems like neither wanted to fight this fight.

Number 2: January 30th, 1895: Round 12 of Young Griffo vs. George "Kid" Lavigne - Back to back rankings. In a dull fight, it's hard to find the dullest round, but round 12 would have to be it.

And the number 1 most boring round is

March 30th, 1895: Round 2 of Jimmy Barry vs. Casper Leon - This fight featured a lot of action from two skilled fighters...something just went wrong in this round. Both fighters took it off and neither did anything at all. Weird round, but definatly the most boring.

July 1895 Rankings

These are pretty crude rankings. I've only been simming all fights for less than a game year and there are divisions that only have 2 or 3 fighters, so it may look a bit off.

Heavyweights
Champion: James J. Corbett
1. Tom Sharkey
2. Peter Maher
3. Bob Fitzsimmons
4. Frank "Paddy" Slavin
5. Joe Butler
6. Joe Chonyski
7. Denver Ed Smith
8. Joe Goddard
9. Jake Kilrain
10. George "Old Chocolate" Godfrey

Middleweights
Champion: Vacant
1. Joe Walcott
2. Mysterious Billy Smith

Welterweights
Champion: Tommy Ryan
1. Matty Matthews
2. "The Nonpariel" Jack Dempsey

Lightweights
Champion: Young Griffo
1. Joe Gans
2. George "Kid" Lavigne

Featherweights
Champion: George Dixon
1. Torpedo Billy Murphy
2. Solly Smith
3. Eddie Santry

Bantamweights
Champion: Jimmy Barry
1. Billy Plimmer
2. Thomas "Pedler" Palmer
3. Casper Leon

See what I mean about them looking a bit off? Anyway, it doesn't really matter. As I go along they'll basically start "filling out" so no worries.

Mysterious Billy Smith 13-3-4 (13)

Joe Walcott 34-2-4 (20)

Pre-Fight Commentary: Many felt that Smith won the first fight, including the fans who attended it. Joe Walcott maintains that he won the fight fairly and that there is no doubt he'll win again.

Ding.....Ding.....Ding

Round 1: Walcott starts off strong by landing a few jabs, but then Smith nails Walcott and takes over. Smith said he wouldn't wait, and he has come out swinging. (Round to Smith)

Round 2: A close round until the last minute where Walcott started landing at will. (Round to Walcott)

Round 3: Smith comes out and immediatly lands a huge hook that stuns Walcott. Walcott spent the entire round covering up as Smith landed many shots. (Round to Smith)

Round 4: Smith is doing what he promised. He's not even letting Walcott breathe as he pounded on Walcott for the majoirty of the round. (Round to Smith)

Round 5: Smith looks to have tired and Walcott is taking advantage of it by staying away from Smith and jabbing away at him. (Round to Walcott)

Round 6: It was a close round until the last minute when Smith landed an uppercut that hurt Walcott. Walcott's eye is starting to look pretty bad. It'll be amazing if he can go all 15 round so he might need to get a KO before the referee decides to stop it. (Round to Smith)

Round 7: A very close round. Smith started strong but Walcott comes back. (Round Even)

Round 8: Another round with Smith spending most of the time hitting power shots. He's making sure that there is no doubt this time. (Round to Smith)

At the halfway point, I have it 5-2-1 for Smith. Ringside expert Walt Arnold has it 6-2 for Smith.

Round 9: A great back and forth round by both competitors. First Smith starts strong, and then Walcott comes back. In the last 30 seconds, though, it was Smith landing several power shots that hurt Walcott and split open his lip. The swelling around Smith's left eyes is getting very bad. I'll be surprised if this continues much longer. (Round to Smith)

Round 10: Another round with Smith controling most of the action. Walcott is in bad shape right now. He's running on fumes. (Round to Smith)

Round 11: And that's going to do it. The referee stops the fight at the start of the 11th round saying that the eye is just too bad. The crowd is not very happy but that's the way ti stands.

The fight ends at 0:24 of the 11th round...your winner by technical knock out...and NEW MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD....MYSTERIOUS BILLY SMITH!

Post-Fight Commentary: A disappointing stoppage, but Smith was easily winning the fight anyway so unless an very unlikely KO would have happened for Walcott, the result would have been inevitable.

Once I have all of the webpages down, I'll be posting a link to the site. Until then, we continue.

NOTE: You will be noticing a couple of errors in the records. In fact, they are corrections. I inputed all of the fights that occured in this thread, and some fighters have records that are a little off. FOr instance, Joe Walcott's record in the recap post I just made is 35-3-3 (before fight), except above during the fight recap, his record is 34-2-3. My only explaination is that I either made an error in inputing the fights or I made an error previously. When the rest of the site is finished and I can view fight histories by fighter, we'll know. Most likely though, they are corrections.

Young Griffo 50-2-15 (26 KO)

George "Kid" Lavigne 22-1-3 (12 KO)

Pre-Fight Commentary: Their first fight was not very exciting, and their second fight was even worse. Most people don't care who wins, just as long as they actually throw some punches this time. THere is speculation that if Griffo loses, he'll head back down to the featherweights, or possibly back up to the welterweights to take on Tommy Ryan again.

Ding.....Ding.....Ding

Round 1: The round starts slowly, but Griffo is throwing some punches while Lavigne can't get anything going. (Round to Griffo)

Round 2: Lavigne took over in this round by getting off to a good start and not letting up. By the end of the round, Griffo was hurt and covering up. (Round to Lavigne)

Round 3: Already this fight has more action than the previous. The action in this round goes back and forth. Griffo did just enough to take the round, though. (Round to Griffo)

Round 4: Griffo starts off the round strong and keeps it going. A late rally by Lavinge may have stolen the round, but I think Griffo did too much early and his rally was not enough. (Round to Griffo)

Round 5: Griffo is starting to take a commanding lead now. Lavigne simply didn't get anything off in this round as Griffo held complete control. (Round to Griffo)

Round 6: A little more from Lavigne this round, a little less from Griffo. Still enough to get Griffo the round. (Round to Griffo)

Round 7: Griffo is dominating the fight now as he's boxing perfectly and Lavigne just can't get anything going. (Round to Griffo)

Round 8: As the fight goes on, Griffo seems to gain more and control and Lavigne seems more lost out there. I don't see how Lavigne will get back into this one. He's tired and Griffo is fighting the perfect fight. (Round to Griffo)

Halfway point: I have it 7-1 for Griffo. Ringside expert has it 6-2 for Griffo.

Round 9: Griffo starts the round by landing a hard shot that stuns Lavigne and Griffo goes to work. Then Lavigne catches Griffo off guard and he takes over. But by the end of the round Griffo had gained back control and takes the round. (Round to Griffo)

Round 10: Griffo just beat Lavigne badly in this round. It was brutal out there and by the end of the round, Lavigne's eye his lip is cut and his eye is busted open. I'll be surprised if this goes on any longer. (Round to Griffo)

Round 11: As expected, a minute into the roudn the referee stops the fight due to Lavigne's eye.

The fight stops at 1:00 of the 11th round, your winner by technical knock out...and STILL UNDISPUTED LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD...YOUNG GRIFFO!

Post-Fight Commentary: Lavigne was getting beat badly out there and the conclusion was inevitable. At the time of the stoppage, the referee's score card read 7-3 for Girffo. He gave 3 of the 4 opening rounds to Lavigne, and scored rounds 5-10 for Griffo. Will we see a rematch? Not anytime soon. Griffo won this one convincingly.

A few very good fights in November and December. Bob Armstron's first test of his career will be against the veteran Frank "Paddy" Slavin. Billy Plimmer and Thomas Palmer are trying to stake their claim to fight Jimmy Barry for the welterweight title and Solly Smith faces off against Torpedo Billy Murphy, the winner most likely will get a shot at Goerge Dixon.

Bob Armstrong 0-0-1 (0 KO)

Frank "Paddy" Slavin 34-2-6 (27 KO)

Pre-Fight Commentary: Bob Armstrong is the better pure boxer, but Slavin has power and agression that may be too much for the inexperienced Armstrong.

Ding.....Ding.....Ding

Round 1: Bob Armstrong starts off the fight landing a series of hard shots that hurt Slavin. About a minute into the round, Slavin is put on his back by Armstrong. Slavin jumps right up but gets smothered by punches by Armstrong. Slavin couldn't defend himself and Armstrong was just teeing off. The referee jumped in near the end of the round and just like that, it's over.

The referee calls a halt to the fight at 2:37 of the 1st round...your winner by technical knock out...BOB ARMSTRONG!

Post-Fight Commentary: Wow! No one was expecting that. If anyone was supposed to win by a 1st round knock out, it would be the powerful Slavin. He was trying to make a run at the world title, but with this lose against an inexperienced fighter like Bob Armstrong, he may have ended his hopes of getting a title shot. If Armstrong keeps this up, he may be in line for one.

Billy Plimmer 12-1-1 (7 KO)

Thomas "Pedler" Palmer 14-0-0 (1 KO)

Pre-Fight Commentary: On paper, this looks like a mismatch. Both fighters are similar, but the concesus is that Plimmer does most things better, but not by a lot. But as they say, fights are decided in the ring, not on paper. The winner of this fight will most likely be Jimmy Barry's next opponent.

Ding.....Ding.....Ding

Round 1: Palmer dominates the round with his outside fighting. He never really hurt Plimmer in anyway, but Plimmer was unable to get anything going. (Round to Palmer)

Round 2: Plimmer gets going in this round, but Palmer's not backing down. They trade punches but Palmer does a little more and takes the round. (Round to Palmer)

Round 3: Halfway through the round, Plimmer catches Palmer with a nice hook and Palmer spends the rest of the round trying avoid anymore blows. (Round to Plimmer)

Round 4: This round was similar to round 2, where the two traded punches. Even though Palmer's lip was bleeding by the round's end, he still did enough to get the round. (Round to Palmer)

Round 5: Near the beginning of the round, Palmer landed a cross that stunned Plimmer and Palmer jumped to action. Plimmer spent the round avoiding Palmer but took some punishment in doing so. (Round to Palmer)

Round 6: Plimmer comes out swinging and catches Palmer with a few shots. It takes awhile for Palmer to recover and he tries to rally but it's not enough to take the round. (Round to Plimmer)

Round 7: Plimmer works his way inside several times and lands a few stunning blows. Palmer gets his punches in too, but Plimmer does enough to take the round. (Round to Plimmer)

Round 8: The action slows down in this round and Plimmer again does just enough to take the round. (Round to Plimmer)

At the halfway point, Palmer started off great but Plimmer seems to have taken control of the fight, winning the last 3 rounds. I have it even at 4-4. Ringside expert JimTrunzo sees it different, though, and has it 6-2 for Palmer.

Round 9: The round starts off slow, but after the first minute Palmer gets going and starts landing shots from long range. Plimmer also gets in a few shots here and there. (Round to Palmer)

Round 10: Palmer continues his long range attack and Plimmer just can't get anything going at all. Plimmer is starting to slow down. (Round to Palmer)

Round 11: About a minute into the round, Plimmer lands a big hook that hurts Palmer badly. Palmer tries to stay away from Plimmer, but he's all over him. With just 20 seconds left, Plimmer drops Palmer and he can't beat the count. Just as Palmer was getting a string of good rounds together, Plimmer ends it quickly.

The fight comes to an end at 2:48 of the 11th round...your winner by knock out....BILLY PLIMMER!

Post-Fight Commentary: The result that was expect, but not the situation. Not many thought Palmer could stick it out against Plimmer but he did. In the end, though, Plimmer's power gave him the chance he needed to take the win.

Solly Smith 21-1-3 (15 KO)

Torpedo Billy Murphy 81-24-11 (69 KO)

Pre-Fight Commentary: THis is a big fight and could determine George Dixon's next opponent. Both Murpyh and Smith have fought Dixon and lost but both are itchign to get another shot. Both fighters are sluggers, both are very agressive and both are susceptible to being knocked down. This one should be fun.

Murphy looks in top condition, but as Solly Smith came to the ring, he was bone dry, which is usually not a very good sign.

Ding.....Ding.....Ding

Round 1: Smith comes out landed a few shots but Murphy answers back. As the round goes on, Smith gains more and more control. He easily takes the round. (Round to Smith)

Round 2: Murphy comes out on fire and punished Smith brutally. Credit to Smith, he did not go down, but he may have saved himself some damage if he did. And easy round for Murphy and one has to wonder if Smith can come back from a beating like that. (Round to Murphy)

Round 3: Not as dominate in this round, but Murphy still keeps control of the fight. Smith got in a few nice shots this round, but another easy round for Murphy. (Round to Murphy)

Round 4: The action slows as they trade blow for blow. Murphy does a little more than Smith. (Round to Murphy)

Round 5: They trade blow for blow again but this time Solly Smith gets the upperhand. (Round to Smith)

Round 6: The action starts picking up again. Smith starts off great and Murphy fires back. Smith does more than Murphy though and takes another round. (Round to Smith)

Round 7: Another round with the two trading shots. Near the close of the round, Murphy landed a shot that sent Smith stumbling back. (Round to Murphy)

Round 8: Smith controls the first minute of the round, but Murphy landed a devestating shot that sends Smith covering up for a short period of time. Murphy continues to control the round to the end. (Round to Murphy)

Round 9: A close round that I was about to give to Murphy, but a late flurry by Smith causes me to score this on even. (Round Even)

Round 10: Both fighters seemingly take the round off as little action occured in this round. (Round Even)

Round 11: Smith goes down! At the start of the round, Smith got hit hard by a series of shots that sent him to the canvas, but he jumps up right away and the fight continues. Murphy tried to get him back down, but he didn't land many punches. (Round to Murphy)

Round 12: The fight is starting to get very close now as they look to be having very even exchanges. This one may be in the hands of the ref and he's going to have a very tough decision. (Round Even)

Round 13: Another round that looked even but a good, late round rally by Smith gives him the round. (Round to Smith)

Round 14: Both fighters are simply tired here, but they continue to give it their all. Murphy landed a few nice shots in the middle of the round and held control the rest of the round. (Round to Murphy)

Round 15: Murphy comes out firing away and going for the knock out. He landed some nice shots but he punched himself out by the middle fo the round. Smith came back and landed some nice shots as the round came ot a close, but I give the nod to Murphy as he looked to do a little more than Smith. (Round to Murphy)

I have it 8-4 for Murphy, but it could go either way. Ringside expert, Jaret R. Morgan, has it 8-6 for Murphy, but we scored several round differently.

After 15 round of battle, we go to the referee's score card...he scores the bout 8 rounds to 5 for your winner....TORPEDO BILLY MURPHY!

Post-Fight Commentary: This result put Murphy at the head of the featherweight division. Now it's up to George Dixon to give Murphy a shot at the title.

I'm going to have to create some sort of ranking system. Not because the one in the game isn't good, it is. But I only sim and save when the fighters face someone else in the game. Later, that might not be a problem. But now, it is. I'll add a ranking system to the database on the website soon or I may just manually edit the Performance Points of the fighters in the game after they fight someone not in the game.

Also, I imported a TON of fighters I downloaded off of CornerWork.com and things should get livelier. Most of the fighters, though were from the 20's, 30's and 40's, but there were some earlier fights. Plus, there are fighters posted on the forums at OOTP, so I'll be grabbing them as well.

Young Griffo vs. Joe Gans

On April 13th, Young Griffo will defend his Lightweight title against the number 1 contender Joe Gans. Gans is an undefeated fighter, amassing a record of 23-0-1 with 20 knockouts. Girffo's record is at 52-2-15 with 27 knock outs. His only loses coming to Lavigne, a close decision, and Welterweight champion Tommy Ryan by knock out. Since his lost to Lavigne, Griffo has won 3 straight, two of them against Lavigne for the Lightweight title. This will end up being a great boxing contest with both fighters being very good at defense and offense.

Here's the link to the "beta" Rankings page for this dynasty.

hxxp://www.irregardless-productions.com/Boxpics/showranks.php

Let me know if you get any errors. I looks to be working fine. For a few game years, these rankings won't mean anything, though, since it looks back on the fighters previous 5 fights to develop the rankings. I just start doing this now. I could go back and add in the needed data for previous fights, but that would take awhile. I might do it, but I'll probably just keep going and let the data build up, and after a few game years, the rankings will be the rankings I use.

Bob Fitzsimmons 42-2-15 (37 KO)

Peter Maher 29-4-1 (16 KO)

Pre-Fight Commentary: Later in the year, James Corbett defends his title against Tom Sharkey. Whoever ends up winning that fight will probably face the winner of this fight late in this year or perhaps sometime next year. Maher is ranked #2 and Fitzsimmons is ranked #3. A win here will push them up to the #1 spot.

Ding.....Ding.....Ding

Round 1: The two basically were just trying to find their footing. A lot of feeling out and testing their opponent in this round. (Round Even)

Round 2: Fitzsimmons starts the round off great and doesn't let up. Maher spends most of the round just covering up as Fitzsimmons hurt him several times through the round. (Round to Fitzsimmons, 1-0 Fitzsimmons)

Round 3: A slower round this time, highlighted with Fitzsimmons landed a couple of stunny shots. (Round to Fitzsimmons, 2-0 Fitzsimmons)

Round 4: The action is slowing down more. Maher didn't let Fitzsimmons get off this round as he came out and landed several shots that backed Fitzsimmons up. The rest of the round was uneventful. (Round to Maher, 2-1 Fitzsimmons)

Round 5: This time it's Maher coming out and dictacting the entire round by stalking Fitzsimmons and landed stunning shot after stunning shot. This one looks to be really heating up. (Round ot Maher, 2-2 Even)

Round 6: Maher starts the round by landing a powerful combination. But Fitzsimmons retaliates and controls the next minute until Maher gains it back and hits Fitzsimmons with a series of hard shot. A late round rally by Fitzsimmons almost steals the round. (Round to Maher, 3-2 Maher)

Round 7: Now, Fitzsimmons comes out firing away and taking control of the whole round. Several shots by Fitzsimmons had Maher stumbling backwards. This back and forth contest is up for grabs. (Round to Fitzsimmons, 3-3 Even)

Round 8: For most of the round, it looked like the two were taking the round off until a sudden uppercut by Fitzsimmons caught Maher off guard and down he went. He jumped right back up and finished the round covering up. (Round to Fitzsimmons, 4-3 Fitzsimmons)

Round 9: Fitzsimmons thought he sensed Maher was ready to go and came out firing, but Maher fires back. After regrouping, however, Fitzsimmons takes control of the round in the final minute and causes Maher's nose to start bleeding. (Round to Fitzsimmons, 5-3 Fitzsimmons)

Round 10: Fitzsimmons stuns Maher halfway through the round and it seems like it's becoming his fight to win. Maher is tired out there and once again finishes a round covering up. (Round to Fitzsimmons, 6-3 Fitzsimmons)

Round 11: Just as you start counting Maher out, he lands a devastating blow that sends Fitzsimmons to full cover up. Maher easily takes the round by beating on a dazed Fitzsimmons (Round to Maher, 6-4 Fitzsimmons)

Round 12: A slower round with neither fighting taking a huge advantage. Fitzsimmons does just enough to take the round, though. (Round to Fitzsimmons, 7-4 Fitzsimmons)

Round 13: Maher takes the round easily by outpointing Fitzsimmons. Both men are now tired. Neither has much power left, but both are probably having a hard time staying on their feet. With 2 rounds left, this one could be close and there's a good chance we'll see a knock out. (Round to Maher, 7-5 Fitzsimmons)

Round 14: The first two minutes were slow and all of a sudden Maher goes down after a barrage of punches! The exhausted Maher could not beat the count and the fight is over!

The fight ends at 2:06 of the 14th round, your winner by knock out...BOB FITZSIMMONS!

Post-Fight Commentary: A wonderful back-and-forth fight that had the crowd standing much of the time. I would not be surprised if we see a rematch between these two fighters somewhere down the road. In the meantime, Fitzsimmons will be waiting for the winner of the Sharkey-Corbett fight to see what his chances are at a title shot.

World Featherweight Title Fight
March 2nd, 1896

George Dixon 21-3-6 (16 KO)

Torpedo Billy Murphy 82-24-11 (69 KO)

Pre-Fight Commentary: Torpedo Billy Murphy defeated Solly Smith late last year to earn the chance to fight George Dixon for the title. 3 years ago, January 21st, 1893, these two fought for the title that was vacated by Young Griffo which George Dixon won on an 8th round TKO. Murphy has been trying to regain the featherweight title which he lost to Young Griffo 6 years ago. He lost to Griffo twice and has lost to Dixon once, so this may be his last chance to get it back.

Ding.....Ding.....Ding

Round 1: The started slowly but near the end, Dixon landed a few well placed punches to take the round. (Round to Dixon, 1-0 Dixon)

Round 2: Murphy came out and landed some good shots. Dixon gains control back halfway through the round and does enough to even the round up. (Round Even, 1-0 Dixon)

Round 3: This round also started out slowly, but Dixon gets better as the round goes on and landed a few good punches through the round. (Round to Dixon, 2-0 Dixon)

Round 4: Murphy lands a powerful shot that stuns Dixon at the beginning fo the round. Murphy can't capitalize on it, and Dixon again takes control of the round. (Round Even, 2-0 Dixon)

Round 5: The first half of the round was a good back and forth contest, and then Dixon takes full control and starts dominating the round as it came to an end. (Round to Dixon, 3-0 Dixon)

Round 6: An action packed round that went back and forth with Dixon getting the upperhand, barely. Murphy suffered a cut over his right eye.(Round to Dixon, 4-0 Dixon)

Round 7: At the start of the round, Murphy's cut was closed, but Dixon went to work anyway. He dominated the round with his boxing skills. (Round to Dixon, 5-0 Dixon)

Round 8: The first minute of the round was slow, but then Murphy landed a shot that opened a cut over Dixon's right eye and stunned him. Murphy jumped at this chance and punished Dixon for the rest of the round. (Round to Murphy, 5-1 Dixon)

Round 9: Dixon kept his distance this round and fought from th eoutside in this round. Murphy had trouble getting inside and Dixon ends up with the round. (Round to Dixon, 6-1 Dixon)

Round 10: Dixon keeps his distance again but Murphy is able to get inside at times. Dixon stills does more and opens a cut uner Murphy's left eye. (Round to Dixon, 7-1 Dixon). On my scorecard, with 5 rounds left, Muprhy needs a KO to win it.

Round 11: Murphy again just could not get inside to pound away at Dixon. Dixon used his boxing abilities to fire away from long range. Murphy is winded and unless he can recover, this one may be over. (Round to Dixon, 8-1 Dixon)

Round 12: Murphy tries to go for the knock out, but Dixon keeps his distance and again dominates the round with his long range attack. Murphy may be just too tired to get to Dixon. (Round to Dixon, 9-1 Dixon)

Round 13: This round seemed to be just a continuation of the 12th round. Murphy can't get inside and Dixon is taking him apart from the outside. (Round to Dixon, 10-1 Dixon)

Round 14: Dixon again dominztes from the outside with Murphy just too tired and slow to get inside. (Round to Dixon, 11-1 Dixon)

Round 15: Dixon played it safe and really stayed away from Murphy. However, he still threw punches that connected. I don't think Murphy landed a single punch in the round. (Round to Dixon, 12-1 Dixon)

After 15 rounds of action, we go to the referee's scorecard...he has the fight 9 rounds to 3 for your winner...and STILL UNDISPUTE FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD....GEORGE "LITTLE CHOCOLATE" DIXON!

Post-Fight Commentary: I think thi smay be the end for Murphy as far as title fights go. He just doesn't have what it takes to stay in there with the faster, more skilled Dixon.

Here's another "beta" page. It's for viewing a fighter.

hxxp://www.irregardless-productions.com/Boxpics/pviewfighter.php

Just pick the fighter from the combo box and click "View". You'll get a page with a picture of the fighter, his record and his fight history. On the fight history, gray means the fight was a draw, green means he won and red means he lost.

Young Griffo 51-2-15 (27 KO)

Joe Gans 23-0-1 (20 KO)

Pre-Fight Commentary: The undefeated, number 1 contender gets his shot at Young Griffo's lightweight title. Gans is a very skilled fighter much like Griffo.

Ding.....Ding.....Ding

Round 1: The round is even until the final minute where Griffo landed a few clean punches to take the round. (Round to Griffo, 1-0 Griffo)

Round 2: Another fight seems even until the final minute, but this time it was Gans who connected with several shots near the end of the round to take it. (Round to Gans, 1-1 Even)

Round 3: An action packed, even round. Again, in the last minute, Griffo comes alive and takes the round right after having his lip cut by Gans. (Round to Griffo, 2-1 Griffo)

Round 4: Gans came out firing away in this round as he landed many hard punches. Griffo landed some counters but Gans was all over him. (Round to Gans, 2-2 Even)

Round 5: Gans starts off the round fast, but Griffo takes control after a few counter punches. A very close round with Griffo doing enough to just take it. (Round to Griffo, 3-2 Griffo)

Round 6: Back and forth this round. Gans starts off, but Griffo comes back and lands a lot of clean shots, but Gans recovers and lands some clean shots of his own. At the end of the round, Griffo was stunned a visibly more tired than Gans. (Round Even, 3-2 Griffo)

Round 7: A close round with not much action. Griffo does just enough to take the round. (Round to Griffo, 4-2 Griffo)

Round 8: A lot of action this round with Gans getting the upperhand. He rocked Griffo a few times. (Round to Gans, 4-3 Griffo)

Round 9: Gans hurt Griffo twice in this round and had him covering up. Gans dominates the round easily. (Round to Gans, 4-4 Even)

Round 10: A very slow round with Gans landing a couple of punches and Griffo barely doing anything. (Round to Gans, 5-4 Gans)

Round 11: It looks like Gans has taken control of this fight as he easily wins another round. He landed a few nice shots that hurt Griffo. (Round to Gans, 6-4 Gans)

Round 12: Another easy round for Gans as he keeps landing shots and Griffo is having trouble getting anything going. (Round to Gans, 7-4 Gans)

Round 13: With each round that goes on, Gans lands more and Griffo does less. It seems the champ is done and all he can hope for is an knock out. I don't think Griffo has the power to even phase Gans at this point. Griffo's left eye is starting to look pretty bad. (Round to Gans, 8-4 Gans)

Round 14: Griffo finally get ssomething together, but can only manage to get an even round. Gans seems content that he has an easy win here and isn't really pressing the fight anymore. (Round Even, 8-4 Gans)

Round 15: The final round finds Griffo knocked down twice. Girffo knowing he needed a knock out went all out, but twice he got caught by Gans and twice Griffo hit the canvas. He was able to get up and finish the round. (Round to Gans, 9-4 Gans)

After 15 rounds of action, we go to the referee's score card...he scores the bout 11 rounds to 4 for your winner...and NEW UNDISPUTED LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD....JOE GANS!

Post-Fight Commentary: Gans showed his superior fighting skills tonight. As the two fighters started to tire, Gans really took over the fight. After round 7, the referee had the fight 4-3 for Griffo, and then he scored rounds 8-15 all for Gans.

Peter Maher 29-5-1 (16 KO)

Frank "Paddy" Slavin 35-3-6 (28 KO)

Scheduled for 10 Rounds

Ding.....Ding.....Ding

Round 1: Maher starts the round off good, but Slavin fights back and with 30 seconds to go in the round, Maher finds himself on the canvas after a wicked uppercut. He gets up at 6 and finishes the round. (Round to Slavin, 1-0 Slavin)

Round 2: Maher again starts off good, and again Slavin comes back to knock Maher to the canvas, this time by an overhand right, at the clsing seconds of the round. Maher is saved by the bell. Right after the bell sounds, however, the referee warns Slavin about rabbit punching. (Round to Slavin, 2-0 Slavin)

Round 3: Maher remains strong and this round goes back and forth. Maher does just enough to take the round. (Round to Maher, 2-1 Slavin)

Round 4: Slavin goes down! A barrage of punches all landed and Maher knocks Slavin to the canvas. Slavin can't beat the count and this one is over!

The fight ends at 1:29 of the 4th round...your winner by knock out...PETER MAHER!

Post-Fight Commentary: Wow. Slavin kncoks Maher down twice in the first two rounds, and then Maher comes back to knock Slavin out in the 4th!

James J. Corbett 13-0-3 (3 KO)

"Sailor" Tom Sharkey 17-0-0 (17 KO)

Pre-Fight Commentary: This will be Corbett's 3rd title defense since winning the title in 1892 when he defeated John L. Sullivan. Sharkey has been climbing the ranks, knocking everyone he's faced out.

Scheduled for 15 rounds

Ding.....Ding.....Ding

Round 1: Corbett easily dominated this round. Sharkey could not get close enough to land any good shots. (Round to Corbett, 1-0 Corbett)

Round 2: Another round for Corbett, but Sharkey did a better job this time. He's getting closer but Corbett again outpoints Sharkey. (Round to Corbett, 2-0 Corbett)

Round 3: A much closer round this time as Sharkey starts off good, but Corbett comes back and steals the round with a late flurry. (Round to Corbett, 3-0 Corbett)

Round 4: Corbett easily wins the round again. Sharkey just isn't doing enough and Corbett is bouncing punches off of him. (Round to Corbett, 4-0 Corbett)

Round 5: Corbett drops Sharkey after a minute into the round! Sharkey gets up on the count of 6 and finishes the round. Corbett didn't press the action and try to finish Sharkey off. (Round to Corbett, 5-0 Corbett)

Round 6: FInally round that goes Sharkey's way. He was able to land a few shots and stun Corbett a few times. Corbett made it close by landing plenty of shots himself, but Sharkey does just enough to take the round. (Round to Sharkey, 5-1 Corbett)

Round 7: It looked like Sharkey was about to turn the tide when he rocked Corbett but he recovered and dominated Sharkey for the rest of the round. (Round to Corbett, 6-1 Corbett)

Round 8: A slow round that could have goen wither way. Corbett seemed to do a bit more, though. (Round to Corbett, 7-1 Corbett)

Round 9: Just as things were slowing down, Sharkey nails Corbett and sneds him to the canvas. Corbett is up on the count of 4 and makes it through the round. (Round to Sharkey, 7-2 Corbett)

Round 10: Corbett is making sure to keep his distance now and Sharkey is starting to land punches more consistantly. This was a close round, but I give it to Sharkey (Round to Sharkey, 7-3 Corbett)

Round 11: Sharkey starts off by landing a good shot, but Corbett quickly recovers and starts to take control again. Halfway through the round, Sharkey starts landing hard shots again and as the round came to a close, Sharkey hurt Corbett with a devastating hook. (Round to Sharkey, 7-4 Corbett)

Round 12: I think Corbett started to sense that his big lead was slipping away, and he came out and dominated this round. Sharkey just could not get anything going at all. (Round to Corbett, 8-4 Corbett)

Round 13: Neither fighter did much. Corbett tried to stay away from Sharkey and Sharkey went for the KO. Neither really did much of anything. (Round Even, 8-4 Corbett)

Round 14: Another close round with hardly any action. (Round Even, 8-4 Corbett)

Round 15: And for the final round, even less action occured. Neither fighter did much. (Round Even, 8-4 Corbett)

After 15 rounds of action, we go to the referee's score card...he has the fight scored 9 rounds to 6 for your winner...and STILL UNDISPUTED HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD...JAMES J. CORBETT!

Post-Fight Commentary: Sharkey was just too tired to get that late round knock out. Corbett showed his boxing skills in keeping away from Sharkey. After the 11th round, the referee had Sharkey ahead 6-5, but he gave the final 4 rounds to Corbett. Bob Fitzsimmons will definatly be itching at a shot at Corbett now.
