POOL A Player of the week:
At the age of 33, Brian Prebble might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The England center fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days collecting the POOL A Player of the Week Award. He racked up 8 hits in 17 at-bats, 3 home runs and 8 RBIs last week in 6 games. So far in 2039, Prebble is batting .352 with 4 home runs and 13 RBIs. |

POOL B Player of the Week:
24-year-old Juan Rodríguez sent shock waves through Front Office Offseason League last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the POOL B Player of the Week Award. A newcomer to the league, Rodríguez made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .500 average, 15 hits in 30 at-bats, 3 home runs and 7 runs batted in. Where the Dominican Republic second baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Rodríguez certainly made his mark last week. This season Rodríguez has banged out 23 hits in 68 at-bats for a .338 average with 3 home runs. He is getting on base at a .365 pace and his totals also include 11 RBIs and 9 runs scored. |

Almost forgot.. this was from the Canada game!
Ryan Roy Bashes Three over the Wall Today was a special one for Ryan Roy of the Canada as he slammed three home runs in the 10-7 win over the Cuba. "Lately, I been uppercutting the ball too much. I would hit it hard, but they just went sky high and stayed in the ballpark," he said to sportswriters after the game. "No big long outs for me in this game... I leveled out my swing and connected on the sweet spot three times. I knew they were gone the minute I hit 'em." The Canada shortstop had quite a game at Assasins Ballpark as he collected 3 hits in 4 at-bats, drove in 6 and scored 3 runs. R. Roy hit a solo-shot off E. Mireles in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off E. Mireles in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off O. García in the 5th, struck out in the 7th and walked in the 9th. This year Roy has hit at a .299 clip with 14 RBIs, 4 home runs and 11 runs scored. |

With only one more game left, the 4 semi-final teams have been decided:
USA, Mexico, Canada and Cuba. The only thing left to be decided is who will play whom in the semi-finals. Canada and Cuba are tied with a 11-6 record and will play each other in one more game. The winner will get home field advantage against Mexico in the semi-finals while the loser has to face Team USA |

The Semi-finals are set!
Mexico vs Cuba Canada vs USA The answer to the earlier trivia question: Until this WBC, there were three countries that had made the semi-finals in each of the previous three WBCs: USA, Japan, Dominican Republic Neither Japan or Dominican Republic made it this year, leaving USA as the only team to have made it to the semi-finals in each WBC. This is Canada's third trip to the semi-finals, Mexico's second trip and Cuba's first trip. Leaving only England and Puerto Rico as countries to never have made the semi-finals after making it to the WBC. Final Standings: POOL A: Cuba 12-6 Canada 11-7 Japan 7-11 England 6-12 POOL B: USA 15-3 Mexico 8-10 Puerto Rico 7-11 Dominican Republic 6-12 |
