I never viewed football in the South as a mystery, more of a fanatical thing - whether positive or negative fanaticism. Certain other parts of the country view prep and college football as nearly irrelevant, which makes outsider look upon the South with curiosity.

GTs offense is as effective as any in CFB (and it may have the best play caller in CFB calling the shots) as long as it has the horses to run it. The triple Option Flex has been proven for nearly a century. It will never be the problem. Recruiting will be the question every year for CPJ, IMHO. |

I was, ftr, complimentary of tonight's performance. My only reason to mention the background info tonight was because someone inquired. Do I believe it's a trend or an aberration? That's a whole diff question.

Oddly enough, of all my criticism of the current era, this isn't one of them. I think it's probably the most exciting offensive football scheme -- WHEN it works -- I've seen in my life. Truly a work of art to my eye ... when it clicks.

I agree it's a beautiful offense when it's running effectively. I guess it's the fact that so many teams ran it in my childhood but it has a special place with me.

I am happy to see quality New Year's bowl games back, as written about here
New Year's Day bowls are resurrected and alive again - CBSSports.com It has been embarrassing to college football to have had so many worthless bowl games and teams on such a traditional football day. |

There's honestly not a single bad match up for today. Even if some games are not nearly as hyped, they look like good match ups. As usual, it is a make or break day for the Big 10 with the SEC not far behind.

It's always great when GT runs the option well, especially against SEC teams that we hear are so great because their only losses are to other great SEC teams and they beat ranked SEC teams.

As a former AFA grad you are missing a lot then. Air FOrce football is a great afternoon and is and has been the best college football in the state for the last 20 years . They are fun games especially for kids. But YMMV if a Boise St fan who I remember we beat down this past year☺️ Last edited by Galaril : 01-01-2015 at 11:18 AM. |

I understand except apart from mandatory cadets attendance, no one else shows up to the games (some games have been in the few thousands). But armed forces have been the odd ducks of D1 and my son would rather watch all of the FBS games (and FCS playoffs) on TV, iPad, iPhone simultaneously. We'll see if he goes to CSU for college, that way he can experience real (for the West) D1 football and atmosphere like I did at SDSU. |

How dare you poke the bear. If the Big Ten ends up with a winning record today in their 3 games against the SEC, now what would make me chuckle.

If I were him, I wouldn't aim that low. The rest of the playoff teams will have new QBs next year.

Did everyone else hear this DA Auburn RB, easy he wish he got to play against weak D like the Big 10?
Seriously this is how brainwashed these kids are. I hate Ohio State...but I hope they hang 50 on Bama so we can argue that TCU shoulkdhave been in the playoff instead of Bama |

To be fair, one of the supposedly better Big Ten defenses gave up 40+ in the two games they played against top offenses and have given up 14 in the first quarter of their ball game. Also, Auburn is currently beating their Big Ten opponent so if you can back it...

Although graduate transfers are a different matter, I seem to recall that an intra-conference transfer can only happen with the agreement of the original school. I'm pretty sure tOSU won't allow Miller to go to a B1G school.
Same thing happened a couple years ago to UCLA. Osweiler wanted to follow OC Mazzone from ASU to UCLA, but Graham wouldn't allow it (so Osweiler went pro to sit on the bench behind Manning).

I was gonna ask who handled the Miss State defense in the absence of their now-former DC but I found it.
Former NFL DB DeShea Townsend ... who I'm thinking rather flunked his audition for a DC job for a while.

How is Wisconsin winning this game? I guess pretty much Melvin Gordon.

To be fair, Gordon has over 200 yards with a quarter to play against one of those vaunted SEC defenses, so maybe Artis-Payne needs to shut the hell up.

I was flipping across multiple games and must have missed it but why is McEvoy playing on defense? Looks like he is playing free safety.
Edit: Should have googled it, looks like this was planned. He was practicing on defense through bowl prep. As bad as Stave is, that seems like a mistake. Last edited by HerRealName : 01-01-2015 at 01:49 PM. |

Umm, pretty sure there weren't any sane people vaunting the Auburn defense after since sometime in October. They've given up 39 ppg in their last six against D1 teams. edit to add: And haven't given up less than 31 in any of those.

Most interest I've ever had in a Minnesota bowl game, as one of their recruits for next year is the best player to ever come from my HS alma mater (RB Shannon Brooks, Pickens/Jasper, GA)

According to Artis-Payne, Gordon only had good stats because he plays in the Big Ten. Looks to me like if he was in the SEC, the story would be much the same.

At this rate, no need for Stave to do anything but hand the ball off.

Way to go, Wisky! Nice win.
Maybe it's my Lion's history, but I can't stand Millen. Is it just me, or has he been borderline offensive in talking about Wisky's kicker? |

It's got to be hard for a team like Auburn that expects to be playing for National Championships to get motivated to play against Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl.

Indeed. But the SEC kool aid drinkers will just say Auburn wasn't a good SEC defense. This doesn't explain Ole Miss and Miss St getting ripped apart... nor LSU a few days earlier.

I'm shaking my head... watching Mizzou vs. Minnesota and folks are chanting "S-E-C", instead of anything dealing with the team itself. They've already brainwashed the Mizzou fans. SMH.

Would you like to say it WAS a good SEC defense? I mean, there's kind of a ring of truth to say that was a shitty defense. And, y'know, I'm not sure Wisconsin should crow much about beating a team that came in 8-4. And I LIKE that Wisconsin team as being a good one. (check my polls throughout the year, you'll see what I mean), if anything they should have won that game by 2-3 TD's, which was my expectation. Auburn is, maybe, the 4th best team in the west versus what looks like the 2nd or 3rd best team in the BWhatever.

Not watching the game, but reading some confusion with Missouri. People claiming Mauk is looking concussed and even reports of him being ill on the sideline. I looked at the box score and see he is still in the game. Is something up or is this other forum just playing up nothing?
