Yeah, I'll get it... no doubt... but shame that for my next gen console all I get are jaw dropping graphics. Oh well, guess I can live with that .

I'll miss the spring game, but I'm still excited about the 360 version. Despite my first two days of work at the new job being quite busy, I ran to the local gamespot on my lunch break and picked up the data transfer kit, a memory card, and an intercooler to be all ready for the heavy weekend (and hopefully a good amount of weeknight) play that NCAA is going to get on the 360.

I got the data transfer kit last week as well. While it was only $15, I forgot that I had to buy a memory card at $40. My wife thought I duped her, but I really just forgot that the memory card didn't come with the kit.
I would also add that Fairdale Kings' Xbox and 360 rosters are free, but he accepts donations. http://www.fkrosters.com/ |

Get that man an early copy!
Of side note, why the heck is the xbox and ps2 considered "current gen"? The 360 is here and therefore "current", right? The xbox and ps2 should be considered "old gen", "prior gen" or "stag gen". |

Oh, he also said he would complete the 360 rosters before the Xbox rosters.

Excellent point. At what point does current gen become old gen? Maybe 2 new systems have to be "new gen" before they are current gen. |

Looks like EA got Byrd Stadium in the game. In the new IGN videos there's a one second clip of it at the end of one of the videos.
Previously, they had a generic stadum that had Akron logos all over it. |

Once all the new systems are out (PS3&Wii) then the PS2 and Xbox and GCube will be considered last-gen.

And you know...here's why, ultimately, we may always be disappointed in these games. Has anyone happened to login to the MaddenMania or MaddenNation boards? Besides the obligatory, "omg, dood - Joe Blow has the game already" there are also many post about some of the recently released videos. Now, when I watch these videos I'm looking for clues on gameplay and realism. What are THESE people talking about? The following:
1) Create-a-player (something I have no interest in) 2) Damn it, they got Ohio State's facemask color wrong again! 3) Does anyone know if they'll have clear visors this year? 4) When you create a new school, does anyone know if there are new logos this year? and so on and so on. Mind you, it's not about running backs who drop the ball in the flat, or the fact that your offensive lineman are automatically the best in the nation because the game incorrectly gives them too many pancakes. Doods, it's all about uniforms and making sure the color of the player's shoelaces is realistic.

When the companies stop selling the previous version. It's all marketing and marketing isn't going to call their old system "old gen". Call it "current gen" and it still sounds up to date. I'd rather buy "current" than "old".

This is how it is with every EA Sports game nowadays. Like myself and others mentioned in the Head Coach thread, you just have to look at the "fun factor". I'm not necessarily going to care about the lineman pancake stats in a game like this. Make the gameplay fun, somewhat of a challenge without making the AI cheat, and moderately realistic, and I'll be ok with the game. |

I agree - i like the fun factor, but the pancake issue was a killer for me. I play the game so I can start a dynasty. Because of the artifical pancake counting, your entire offensive line, by their senior year, were all All-Americans. Therefore, any kind of recruiting of an offensive lineman was meaningless, as well as you giving you a huge advantage over the AI. As you can well understand, this absolutely ruined the game for me.

Craig,
That's the type of people EA targets for some f'n reason too. Clear visors? Who gives a rats ass? I read those boards just to see if maybe Target releases it early. I post on OS from time to time.. if not to just argue with a kiddie or two. |

I've been playing NCAA 2004 (my favorite version). I'm currently 11-19 so far in my Wyoming dynasty and having a lot of fun with it. I found the perfect slider seetings for me and using Utopia's Real Recruiting System. It's kept the game challenging for me. Unless the game plays closer to this version than 2006, I think I'll just stick with this one.

Probably from over at NCAA Utopia (hxxp://www.utopiafootball.com/forums/) where, IIRC, you limit yourself to X number of 5 stars, 4 stars, etc, based on what prestige level your team is at. There may be geographical limitations, too. I don't remember anymore. |

NCAA 2004 is definitely the best version, gameplay wise. If NCAA 2005 or 2006 had this gameplay with the other features they had, they would be close to perfect.

That's pretty much the basis of it. You have to have 25 targets (you can drop one each week), no more than 8 Head Coach visits, everyone gets a Head Coach visit. You can have no more than X number of players from CA, TX, or FL (those states don't count in your region) unless your school is in that particular state. It makes where you can't get too good too fast while still giving you a chance to compete for the top players in the country. I'm certainly enjoying it right now. Edit--There is also a chart that tells you how many 5*recruits, 4*, 3*, etc. beased on your prestige.

I played 2004 the most of the bunch. 2005 was the first I had skipped since 2000, and I've played 2006, and gotten it to something of a decent play, but I didn't play it nearly as much as I did 2004. I think I got to 2012 on my main 2 team dynasty and probably another 3-4 seasons with created schools. Thus far in 2006, I'm in season 4. Not sure if I'll get 2007. I'll probably wait and see, since I"m leaning toward alternating purchases of NCAA and the best available hockey game by year. Last edited by bronconick : 07-08-2006 at 02:24 PM. |

It's amazing people come up with house rules like these for a console game. Hey EA, how fixing some of these issues instead of adding some of the goofy stuff? I will say, I've watched all the new videos game informer online just put out and as usual every year, I'm excited. Looks like a TON of new plays to choose from. |

Rumor has it that alternate uniforms will be downloadable on the Xbox Marketplace for $. That's just plain stupid. You're paying $60 for a game and it barely has any new content. You shouldn't be paying for extra "content" in sports games that come out every year. I could see paying for extra content in PGR3, GRAW, or any other game that isn't just a rehash of last year's game with updated rosters and maybe another mode, but not sports games. Ugh.

It'd be fun to have a Scarlet Knight on the cover! Hehe... though I don't think I'll be playing as them much during the game... maybe when I need some 'house rules' .

EGM review for the 360 version is out:

As I recall, EGM never has much in the reviews department.. except maybe a few lines of what they think about it, so take it FWIW. People are freaking out over at OS though. |

What is "shotty" collision detection? Isn't it supposed to be "shoddy"? I'll respect your review when you respect it enough to spellcheck, EG.

I give a lot more leeway to console sports games.. with that being said, I want a game that plays a competitve game out of the box without having to tweak the f'n sliders. It's extremely rare, but I can dream.
Small tweaks I can live with, but once it becomes an obsession to scour the internet looking for some good sliders, the game becomes a coaster. |
