Well, instead of making thousands on the Falcons winning and covering the spread, I'm likely just getting a break even day with the over 58.5 happening.

Still think Bennett should have had that, even with the penalty.

Looking at the final score this is going to look like a good game but in actuality it is going to be two bad pieces of a game sewn together.

Where was the obvious hold on that winning play?

I'm in shock. The Pats did NOT deserve this one for 44:40.. but games are 60:00. I'm just.. completely in shock.

Atlanta deserved to lose. The coaching in the second half was probably the worst I've seen in a super bowl. The moment was simply too big for them to comprehend as a coaching staff.

To be fair, they weren't actually that bad in the first half, they just had a few key plays that killed them.

So the 2 championships in 2017 both featured OCs angling for a HC job and both teams lost. Prob just a coincidence.

88 offensive plays for NE
41 offensive plays for ATL

That ain't gonna end well very often.

Nothing you can say outside of Atlanta lost the game. Now maybe I can hear less whining from NE fans about the Giants catch.

Atlanta had every chance to win the game. Kick one FG there and they win and they go sack/penalty. I lost count of how many near INT's they had or should have had, Brady made some horrific throws this game and really only got burned on one of them. Two of his bad throws ended up in catches by his own team. Others could/should have been INT. He also gave up about 5 huge plays with throws that I would have been pissed off if Siemian missed them.

But through all that NE hung in there and Atlanta threw up on themselves. The better team won. . . I'm just going to have to turn off ESPN for a couple of weeks. Patriots deserve the press. I just hate em so I won't watch it.

all Atlanta had to do was run three times and kick a FG afterwards.

Little doubt IMO. His performance in big games has just been amazing. The 15-16 years of consistency make his resume unmatched. The most remarkable thing about him is that he looks just as good if not better than 10 years ago. When will the decline actually come?

Did some of you people even watch the first half? It was arguably even in terms of game play with New England making a few uncharacteristic errors. They adjusted in the second half and also got the bounces.

While the Falcons played/coached somewhat hesitant and nervous as the game wore on, I think the Patriots are as much to credit for coming back as Atlanta is for "throwing the game away." When they made that call on 2nd and 11 before the penalty/sack, I think Ryan was about 15 for 18. In hindsight, they probably should have run it but it wasn't the worst call I've ever seen.

Nope! The way they are set now is perfectly fair. If your defense cant stop the other team from getting in the end zone with the game at stake you deserve to lose. If they hold them to a FG they get a chance to win.

Every native Atlanta knows three little words by heart

Same. Old. Falcons.

Death, taxes, and the Falcons failing to finish.

I don't know, this kind of felt like one of those games where a young team on the verge learns what it takes to win. Mind you, I felt they were on the cusp 5 or so years ago and then they went to shit for a few seasons, so I may be wrong.

What you saw was one QB that knew how to win. While another QB was just trying to limp to the finish. Some of it goes on the coaches but getting too conservative too early seems to backfire on teams as well. Ryan just couldnt lose that fumble and take that sack when they were in fg range. Its on him to make the correct decisions.

There's conservative, and then there's a slow developing drop back pass on 3rd and 1 up by 20+ in the fourth quarter, and again in relatively easy field goal range to win the game with a few mins left. Not to mention the horrible clock management, they were regularly snapping the ball with 20 seconds left on the clock and wasted all their TO

Some of it is on Ryan, but more on the coaches IMO. I agree with whoever said that was about as badly coached a 4th quarter with a lead as they can remember

I don't know how you blame Ryan for the fumble when Freeman completely whiffed on the block (or am I mashing two plays together)?

Falcons play calling killed them at the end of that game, no two ways about it. They should have run the ball, run the clock and most importantly, given a ragged defense extra time to regroup if all that failed to net 3 points. That D was exhausted.

That's what she said.

Freeman whiffed. Ryan was zoned in on one read and wasnt paying attention to anything else going on. Freeman is certainly at fault for missing his block but I also put a lot on the QB to know the situation and the surroundings. He should have either felt the pressure or been expecting the pressure on a long developing route he was apparently zoning in on. Probably should have been focused on a shorter developing route on 3rd and 1 or got the hell out of that play call. Probably waiting on Julio to break free, who knows. If that was his only decent option on that play yes its piss poor coaching but I have a hard time believing there wasnt a flat route and a 5 yard hook or cross as an option. He probably thought Julio was man up and would have time who knows.

I don't think much of Ryan, historically or even now, BUT ... I can't rag him on that fumble much (if at all). When somebody gets a free run at you, that shit happens to any QB.

I saw, give or take, maybe 30-40 plays all night.

Apparently I chose well, 'cause I saw pretty much all the ones that ultimately mattered.

Just a weird game when you think about it. The Falcons scored 21 of their points during a 10 minute stretch in the 2nd quarter. They scored 7 points in the other 50+ minutes of play.

The Pats were.. not the Pats for three or so quarters. They had the worst case of the dropsies and the running game was not going anywhere.. (and the Falcons were doing a GREAT job of stuffing the screen passes)

Brady made a HORRIBLE decision on that pick six. They weren't sealing the edge which they've been great at all year, were allowing a ton of YAC, and just looked like they weren't ready at key moments.

They would string together a few plays like a sputtering motor, but then just when you thought "That's it, the motor is kicking into gear".. something would go wrong.

When they were forced to go up tempo and drop the running game nearly entirely is when the motor finally caught.. and Atlanta.. well, they were conservative when they needed to be aggressive and aggressive when they needed to be conservative.

Incidently the bizarre half-commercial for Lumber 84 was forced to be edited by FOX because it was "too controversial"

All it had was the mother and child blocked by "the wall" and then found "a door" through. That's it.

Yet we have to be subjected to Godaddy's wretched oversex commercials and a million others with people shooting each other whee.
