Whoa Whoa WHOAAAAAA.. Something as important as this, and it's not implemented this close to release? This is a VERY tough feature to code right, and the fact that it's not in and getting thoroughly tested through time prior to release has cooled my enthusiasm for the release period considerably.

LOL, no not this release . Possibly future patch, possibly next rev. We've haven't really discussed implementation yet, so it's "on the list" as a future feature but the timeframe hasn't been finalized yet.
BTW - yes, I'd be in a panic if this was going into this release as well But, that's my nature... |

Can anyone address wether or not the issue of having computer generated 2B & SS with 1B power and 1B & 3B with CF speed has been addressed? Seems to me that in the past the attributes were sort of random and didn't really correlate well to the basic "feel" of Baseball. I remember some people talking about that in past versions and it really turned me off.

SkyDog I appreciate you doing this bro! I have been glued to this thread since it started. Very good, very helpful.
Even the constructive feedback is great to read. It will help Markus release the best and most realistic OOTP yet. I preordered the game about 3 weeks ago, so I am getting excited about this one as well.

And my desire for the game has now died. Oh well. So much for a improved realistic trading system.

SkyDog, I like the look of that list, although 2 48+ HR 2B worries me just a tad bit, I can live with it. Just one further question, and no need to go out and do it right away, what do the whole of the 2B & SS's in the league look like? Do the majority of them have alot of power or are there just a few with the majority being prototypical speed/defense kind of guys?

Little more...
In my top 10 all-time SB list, all are 2B or OF, except one 1B, and he never was a big SB guy. Never has had more than 43 in a season, and hits for decent power (20-25 HR's). In the top 10 all-time HR list, 9 of the 10 are OF/corner IF. There is a 2B at #9, but that's it. That sounds pretty good to me.

Nice impressions so far, thanks. I have a question about the Rule 5 draft when you mess around with that. I'll give a real MLB example here.
The Orioles took 3B Jose Bautista in the recent Rule 5 draft, from the Pirates. Now, if the Orioles don't want to keep him on the 25 man roster for the whole season (which is the rule when claiming someone from Rule 5), they either have to give him back to the Pirates, or make a trade with the Pirates for the rights to Bautista so that they can send him down to the minors. Is that in there? |

I haven't read any different (or if I had, I have forgotten) but, Does OOTP6 still include detailed manager profiles for the solo player. My question is focused more on the inclution of marrage status, kids, etc. This is an addition to the game that I enjoyed, despite complaints from many others.
Is there any word that? Any changes? |

I'm going to be busy with some work stuff for the next several hours, so don't expect any new info. I'll be at my desk most of the time, though, so I'll be able to answer *some* questions. At this point, I'm thinking that the preview will continue with a complete HTML upload from 20ish seasons with the new build, which would be 10-12 hours after whenever I receive it.

Due to complexity issues on the AI side, this isn't implemented. As it stands now, if you want to take him off the 25-man roster, he must clear waivers. If he does not, and is claimed by another team, they need to keep him on the active roster for the entire year. It was our intent to mimic the actual rules here, but it's my understanding that the additional complexity would have been overwhleming in the timeframe allowed. -Craig |

Nice preview so far. I have never been into baseball, but I'm definitely getting excited about this game.
I have a couple of questions. 1. What kind of instruction manual comes with this game? I'm really hoping that this game comes with a decent manual/strategy guide of some sort. From looking at the html stuff, I have lots of questions. If the rest of these can be found in the manual, then don't worry about answering them (unless you are just bored and feel like helping a newbie out) 2. What exactly is the Rule 5 draft? 3. What does arbitration mean? 4. How does the minor league system work? Ok, I have lots more, but I need to go eat before class. |

Consider, however, all of the online leagues. Of course it should be toggleable, but if it doesn't make it in, dan, you get to run the next JBL draft and get to have fun changing around all those draft orders manually. Lucky you dan!! |

Could you take one of your old OOTP5 leagues and convert it into the OOTP6 and let us know how they turn out..? Thanks |

I can't really help with OOTP5 to 6 conversion. I've been playing so much FBCB and FOF2K4 that I knew there was no chance that I'd be playing any more OOTP5 before OOTP6 came out, so I took it off of my hard drive.

But all somebody would have to do is send you their league file for a v5 game and you could just import it into v6 right? I don't think you actually need the game. If you want, you can go to our league website (plenty of FOFers on there) and download the league file and convert it. I'm sure cuckoo, mckerney, cartman, rex, lynchy, and many others from here would be glad to see how their crappy players convert. Oh yeah, shameless self-promotion. www.ootp5league.org/index2.html You can download files from menu. |

Ben,
Check your inbox - there's a new build there. Oh, and one of the new features is the ability for multiplayer leagues to "broadcast" a game on the internet. Meaning, the users of the league can log in and watch the game being played over the internet in realtime (kind of like watching the game on ESPN.com). It's the first iteration, so it's not the most beautiful thing (yet), but it's kinda neat, especially when you think of how this could be taken further in releases down the line. -Craig |

I have another question about financial flexibility-- I'd like to be able to play with a shorter schedule than 162 games. Will the game be able to scale finances and salaries to make that work?

Actually, Tasan, that makes a lot of sense. I always sticky major announcements/patches/screenies/developer chats/info about other text sims for a day or so. Not doing so for this is technically inconsistent.

Sorry, Craig, I gotta agree with the Foz here. That should absolutely have been in the primary release. Rule V draft and a waiver system? That's cool, and all, but that should have been a secondary concern to making sure that the trade engine especially on the sixth version is context-sensitive. That's just sloppy planning, IMO. |

That's fine. I only came on to the scene in December, and when Markus and I finally hooked up I mentioned to him the fact that it would be nice if the AI for opposing GM's took the team's current position into account. He mentioned to me that he had trouble with it before, quantifying exactly when a team was rebuilding, when a team was making a push for the pennant and all the variables that effect this (in modern MLB, it's all about money - the Orioles, until a couple years ago absolutely refused to rebuild - and look where it got them). When we started talking about the scope of incorporating the majority of rules in the CBA that were missing in the game, one of the things that "fell out" was this piece. So...rather than risk doing something that wasn't going to accomplish everything we wanted, he decided to take it out. Now, when I say this could be implemented in a patch next version, etc. - it's obviously not my call. However, I do know that he and I will be meeting in the June timeframe to actually sit down and discuss some of these issues and map out the plan where he hopes to take OOTP. Again, it's his application, it's his call where he ultimately takes it. I understand your frustration since this is the 6th release, and something as nice as this doesn't exist in the game. We're going to get there -- unfortunately it's not going to be there tomorrow -- but it will be there. -Craig |

Nice to get home and read some ootp6 info!
Thanks SD!! I am a bit disturbed by this: it would be nice if the AI for opposing GM's took the team's current position into account Besides some more rules incorporated, is the solo CPU AI going to be more of a challenge than v5? ..and I don't mean difficulty levels. Todd |

I dunno, it would seem like a simple IF/AND statement to me.
IF the average team age > X (where X is, I dunno, 32 years old, for the sake of argument), AND team winning % < .500, then the team goes into rebuilding mode. You might set a minimum number of games played (81, perhaps?), too, just to make sure teams don't tank after, say, a 2-4 start. It's basic mathematics, and should be easily quantifiable by the AI. The only part of it up for debate that I can see would be what that average team age threshold should be. Just my two cents, though. |

that seems incredibly over simplified. an issue like this is far more complex and would take something more than a 'simple if/then statment' to be doen properly. There are an endless number of exceptions to the rule you just posted. I'd much rather have features be done properly and work correctly than be done halfassed just to have them in the game |
