Starbucks is "far" more famous the Microsoft? I admit I'm no marketing expert, but I'd be very surprised if Starbucks has better brand name recognition than Microsoft.

(not a) Dola - I find it pretty interesting how many big name brands have come out of the Seattle area:

- Microsoft
- Starbucks
- UPS
- Boeing
- Amazon

You could make a decent argument for Amazon battling with Starbucks & Microsoft for most recognized brand from the state.

Pretty impressive list for a region that really only started taking off after 1908 and is still just the 15th largest metropolitan area in the country.

If we're talking name recognition, how can you go CAT over McDonald's for Illinois?

I would put Target over Pilsbury in Minn. also, isn't there something else in Virginia besides aol?

I don't think BofA should be in NC, it's a California company who was bought by a company that happened to be in NC. Why not Exxon for Texas then?

Neither here nor there: It's not a tax reason but a legal reason. Delaware corporate law is friendly to corporate boards, well developed and flexible.

I perceive that Microsoft's brand is fast becoming irrelevant or at least, unpopular. Famous would not necessarily mean notorious. Starbucks seem to have a very positive and cool brand that a lot of people can relate to - just like Apple.

I think the most reasonable conclusion is that the person who put the map together put a favorite/funnies/Internet-seached brand in each state. Seems doubtful there was any logic applied to it, and attempts to apply logic to it are will probably be fruitless.

Microsoft is having some serious issues with his brand right now and they need to fire their entire advertising staff and just start over. They would be better served running their advertising out of somebody's garage in Simi Valley.

I don't think it was necessary. If someone didn't see that it was the license plate, then it's FOFC poster fail

I swear this happens in every zoo I've been to in the last few years. I'd have been cool with a gif where the gorilla just looked thoughtful while the "evolved" humans kept acting like morons.

A follow on to the corporate map, a map of the iconic beers/liquors from a state.

Never heard of Floyds until I saw this map, but after looking them up, I am from the opposite end of the state. For Southern Indiana? Iconic? Probably Falls City.

Three Floyds is legit. Suggest Gumballhead if you ever see it available.

S'pose I'll have to visit the laughing sun, finally.

For other states, no argument with Bell's in MI (best of all), Miller in WI, or Highland in NC, but don't know Widmer in OR (would have guessed Deschutes).

And I thought Florida beer invention was Bud Light...

Massachusetts packs the biggest punch with the Sam Adams line of beers.
Colorado's Third Shift is a solid beer that I've added to my rotation.

i have some arguments with some of the beers on there, but three floyds (its in Munster) is an amazing brewery...they have people come in for a one day release of their imperial stout from all over the world (i know this cuz i drove 11 hours to get there a couple years ago) they produce about half a dozen world class beers

Flying Dog is the iconic beer from Maryland? While I love that they're getting the cred, how is Natty Bo not better known? Is that a regional thing? More regional than a local craft brewery?

Today, none of the company's production is located in New Jersey. It obtains all its apples from Virginia's Shenandoah Valley and distills its products there.[1] Distilling at its New Jersey facilities ceased in 1972 and Laird's only blends, ages and bottles its products in Scobeyville".[1]
