And by that I mean do the numbers justify the phrase "a movement" or is this, as my wife put it earlier, only qualify as something like "a cult, at most"?

"movement" sounds like a bit much, but there is definitely some bad shit there. I'm aware of it as a now-banned reddit sub. Incel stands for "involuntary celibacy" and the guys that associate themselves with the term tend to blame women for all of their problems, feel they are "owed" sex but evil women won't give it to them, at the most extreme level some celebrate serial killers and serial rapists for having the guts to take what is owed to them. They also violently hate men who they deem to have it easy, especially with women. Basically an extreme victim culture, its no surprise that some will lash out.

I subscribed for the entertainment value. Now I check out /r/inceltears, which posts, discusses, and mocks the rantings of incels from facebook, twitter, text messages of incels they know, etc. It has 70,000 subscribers.
