I'm trying to figure out if nothing bad happened in the Greenville area Saturday night. Friday night, the news is all shootings, robbings and fires. Same thing tonight.
But Saturday night, it was only Clemson Tigers news. I can only assume all crime and bad news didn't happen Saturday night because football. I feel like if football was an every night sport, the world would be perfect. |

That Brady Bunch episode where Bobby dreams of Jesse James killing his whole family right in front of him. I mean...what the fuck.

There were a few really odd episodes. There was one where Jan found an old photo of her old ugly aunt as a kid, and the Aunt looked just like Jan at that age. Jan freaked out because she didn't want to be ugly like her Aunt when she grew up. But, the Aunt was not at all ugly and actually very awesome - she traveled the world and was friends with (and probably banged) Wilt Chamberlain. There's a heart-to-heart talk, and I think the moral was - hey, you can't predict the future, maybe you won't grow up to be ugly like your Aunt. Hooray! How many times did Mr. Brady use the parenting technique of "let me find a grown-up to convince my kid he's an idiot." I know there was Deacon Jones who told one of the kids it was OK to sing, and Don Drysdale told Greg that he should stay in school and not drop out to pursue his dreams of a baseball career. Ok, now I'm down the rabbit hole.
It's About Time - Have I Got a Girl For You & Love Me, Love My Gnook - YouTube Imogene Coca was about as old in this as Eve Plumb is now (58). It's not a slam dunk, IMO. Also, this came up in the Up Next for me: Kirstie Alley LOVE BOAT 1983 - YouTube Man, did they allow some cleavage in '83!

I've spent too many a night doing diligent research on whether Heather Thomas or Heather Locklear was the preeminent blonde of the 80's.

Heather Thomas was hot, but she sounded like a dude who smokes 4 packs a day, which gave Locklear the edge, in my opinion.

Lynda Carter doesn't get the love she deserves. Wonder Woman outfit aside, she was an absolute smoke show. The James Brolin of women.

Barkin did things like Diner, Tender Mercies, Eddie and the Cruisers, and Buckaroo Banzai in the early 80s. She was already pretty well established before that late 80s run. Last edited by CrescentMoonie : 01-05-2017 at 12:35 AM. |

Barkin is 62 to Thomas' 59 and Locklear's 55, fwiw.
She was on an episode of Modern Family a few years ago as a competitor of Phil's. Still had it, IMO -- and I didn't give her much thought in the 80s, either. Had this convo a while back - she kind of falls in that slot of veteran actress who transitioned from movies to TV, who is strong, dry, blonde, and DGAF while still having that sexy older woman vibe. Not the most beautiful, but has a little something different. Kind of how I thought of Angie Dickinson. It's the slot I see Cameron Diaz moving into.

Heh. I had to google who Heather Thomas even was. Heather Locklear wins that battle. Ellen Barkin does have a little something to her.

I probably wouldn't have thought of the Barkin/Dickinson parallel unless someone mentioned it but, now that you have ... yeah.

I agree. We have more celebrities. Also, we are now aware of every celebrity death. If, in the 1980s, some mid-tier famous guy from the 1940s died, it probably got reported in the paper in his hometown and possibly got a short mention on page 15 of the Entertainment section of some other papers, but the majority of people wouldn't know it happened. Now, when a Gary-Shandling level celebrity dies, we all are aware of it because its on facebook and twitter, etc for a few days. Last edited by albionmoonlight : 01-05-2017 at 01:59 PM. |

So Juno as a movie night, with all teenage or older boys is.....interesting. Let's just say that we're well beyond the sex talk at this point.

I don't know if your kids' schools do online grades with every test/quiz/whatever, but I feel like this is a massive detriment for parents. I feel like I look almost obsessively, and if she doesn't get a 100 on something, like I've failed in helping her with her homework. I feel like my parents had far less stress about my grades than I have about my child.

Many of the programs now have settings that allow a parent to set conditions for receiving emails and/or texts. For example, if a grade is less than 85% you can receive a notification. If something doesn't get turned in, that's usually a setting. That way you will feel you're checking without checking obsessively. |

It had been several years since I had a client ask me to prepare a serious sized radio campaign.
I just saw the current costs for a hefty schedule in Atlanta. Holy HELL ! You'd have to be batshit insane to attempt a radio-only campaign to try to move the sales needle on anything other than maybe new cars. The costs are ... well, batshit crazy covers it.

I want to take the entirety of Publishers Clearing House employees, one by one, into a shed filled with bees and then set it on fire and then blast it into space. Upon it's return to Earth, hopefully frozen solid, I want to drop a giant boulder on it, so what's left of them break into a million tiny pieces.

Coaching 12U Basketball with a bunch of 8,9,10 year olds who had never played before. By some miracle we are 2-1. It does help we are in C league. Going up against a school that is 4-0 and has yet to win by less than 20. Their last game they beat a team by 55 points. We beat that same team by two points. The game is in two hours..
In our league, full court press is not allowed, but you are allowed to play defense after a missed shot. So most of their points come from stealing the ball from the opponent after a rebound because most kids at this level are not good ball handlers. Also, they run fast break every chance they get. I made a game plan for our kids. The title of the game plan is how to not lose by more than 20 points. If we somehow achieve that, it will be a miracle. THREE KEYS TO NOT LOSE BY TWENTY POINTS Every team that has played this school has lost by at least 20 points. We will not be one of those teams! 1. DO NOT LET 36 SCORE 2. STOP THEIR FAST BREAK 3. NO TURNOVERS (GOOD PASSES) KEY #1: DO NOT LET 36 SCORE 1. FORCE #36 TO DRIBBLE TO HIS LEFT 2. OTHERS MUST HELP DOUBLE-TEAM HIM 3. HE MUST NOT SHOOT LAYUPS KEY #2: STOP THEIR FAST BREAK 1. ONLY TWO PEOPLE WILL REBOUND WHEN WE SHOOT 2. THREE PEOPLE WILL SPRINT BACK TO JUST ABOVE THE FREE THROW LINE 3. DO NOT ALLOW A LAYUP-FORCE THEM TO RUN THEIR OFFENSE KEY #3: NO TURNOVERS (GOOD PASSES) 1. MOVE TO AN OPEN SPOT THAT IS NOT TOO CLOSE TO YOUR TEAMMATE 2. THROW THE BALL TO YOUR TEAMMATE’S OPEN HAND (NOT TOO LOW/NOT TOO HIGH) 3. IF WE LOSE THE BALL, SPRINT BACK ON DEFENSE Yep, that should take care of everything Last edited by LastWhiteSoxFanStanding : 01-26-2017 at 01:05 AM. |

So for anybody that cares , team lost 24-9. We held 36 to 6 points and we gave up no fast break points. To their credit, they were able to run their offense and didn't make any unforced errors which I had anticipated that they would do out of frustration.
I will be writing a letter to their school because during the course of the game, their players repeatedly told our guys to Fuck off, that we were fucking losers etc. Even said this kind of stuff during the handshake after the game. And they won by fifteen! Clearly, we frustrated them like no other team had and I told our guys that them insulting us was actually a compliment . It showed we gave them their toughest game. Final note: On their final inbounds play of the game, with 8 seconds left, I yelled to our guys to stick tight to their man because they were still going to try to score. The ref, bless his heart and I think he could see it too, called an inbounds violation on the passer for stepping his foot over the line. This Gave us the ball and since there is no full court press. I instructed our guard not to cross half court because I knew he would be mugged if he did. We are the only team that played them that didn't have the mercy rule enforced. Nothing like taking pride in a fifteen point loss. The 76ers used to feel the same way . Trust the process! |

If you play them again practice Four Corners leading up to the game. Will really piss them off if you let the air out of the ball. Last edited by stevew : 01-27-2017 at 01:04 AM. |
