Outside of Titanfall, it's not like there's a lot of must haves between now and the fall. In addition, most would have to assume that a price cut for the PS4 wouldn't be far behind. It may make some move on the console, but I think for the most part, it will only induce more waiting.

Whatever. I'm an early adopter, this early price cut doesn't even register with me. I don't care.

Also, that's a whole lot of assumptions needed to "prove" your point.

Id speculate a lot of gamers are impulse buyers and waiting isnt one of their strong suits.

I am the same way. I cant see myself waiting around for something I want in hopes that it will save me 10 percent in 6 months.

Well, we heard a whole lot of people assuming that the $100 difference in price between consoles wouldn't a big deal and that people would stick with the X1 when the new generation arrived when there was lots of evidence to the contrary. We saw how that went.

I'm extremely interested to see how many of these Titanfall packages are actually release. The UK boss is already telling people that they likely will have to preorder it if they want to get it. That doesn't sound like many units.

So, if I understand this correctly:
pre-orders for Xbox = not many units
pre-orders for Sony = unprecedented demand

Sony wasn't limiting their consoles on pre-order, so it's obvious why the unprecedented demand occurred as you mention. They still expect another two months of shortages despite selling more than any other console ever has in the first 3 months.

X1 has actually done that twice now (Day One and Titanfall). Day One consoles were still available 2-4 weeks after launch. We'll hope that the UK boss is serious about the short amount of supply for this console because it's going to be a PR nightmare if we have Titanfall consoles out in the wild for even a few days.

Through eBay and second hand sellers. But we don't really expect to have any kind of honest discussion with you in this thread.

It is really hard to not get annoyed with a broken record repeating the same thing over and over again for (up to this point) 33 pages.

Incorrect. Best Buy was selling the Day One console online as late as 3 1/2 weeks after launch.

Again, we don't really expect to have any kind of honest discussion with you in this thread. It is a bit ridiculous that you have more than 1 out of every 4 posts in a 33 page thread. Some of the dynasty threads aren't that lopsided in favor of one poster.

Ouch, Sony fails to sell out their allotment and the first weekend sales put the PS4 in Wii U and Vita territory for launches in Japan. Could this give more power to those who want Sony to sell off the Playstation division?

From what I've seen, it's been quite the opposite. The mobile and PS divisions are the profitable segments, no? The TV and the computer segments are the ones being sold off.

They've been struggling ever since the disappointing sales on the last GOW game. Not terribly surprising.

Interesting information on sales in Japan. Sony had some good numbers on launch, but 3DS sales took a hit as well.

Ouch, a couple of big embarrassments for Sony. First, the Killzone multiplayer that Sony claimed was 1080p and 60 fps turns out to be neither. Big questions about the consoles power and Sony for lying about it.

Actually a great thing that you posted this. It's a great discussion. First off, Guerilla Games should be called out for it. It's misleading. With that said, what was a rough situation initially could be a saving grace for developers who can't quite squeeze full 1080p/60fps out of the Xbox One on their ports. Thuway discusses the ramifications over on his Twitter account.

Quote:
I don't think people understand why the solution Guerilla is using is bleeding edge. They LIED - yes; but now lets examine the work at play

In still frame IQ similar to native 1080p will be on display. When the frame moves, IQ will remain close to 1080p with ghosting + artifacts

It's clever and fooled everyone into thinking GG was using some sort of strange AA algorithm because the image was still very sharp.

The detail lost artifacts or blurs in hyper fast scenes.

Also, IMO, this is not a cheap method to be forcing down your frame buffer. GG deliberately ignored shifting resolution to 900p. Intersting

If people ignore the fanboy war for a minute, this method actually can be employed on the Xbox One, and is an amazing compromise.

Guerilla's method essentially gives the clarity of 1080p with two drawbacks - ghosting + artifacting. It literally is genius.

I'm more interesting in how this applies to games going forward. COD, Battlefield, TitanFall 2 etc. This is a gamechanger.

It's very rare that a developer CREATES a solution to a problem. We nominally go to standby methods like increasing AA/AF/SSAO

The end result from Killzone's method is a super sharp image (like 1080p), with artifacts + ghosting.

So I'm a bit torn. On the one hand, Guerilla deliberately misled consumers into thinking they were getting native 1080p when they weren't.

On the other hand, they've created a new method for frame blending and handling sharpness that supercedes any attempts before it.

Ushering in essentially a new paradigm of rendering. We started with MSAA and have evolved all the way to TXAA. This tech will evolve too.

Exciting times ahead. Developers must be salivating at the bit.

So I'll try to simplify GG's method in three points, and I hope this goes some way in explaining what is going on.

A. The image displayed to the player is Full HD 1080p with ghosting. Full stop. The player sees Full HD 1080p, 1:1 mapping. 1920X1080p

B. The framebuffer renders every other frame at 960X1080p and stitches them together. Every frame on display is full HD 1080p, but the means to display the image are questionable.

C. The advantages of a sharp Full HD image are present with a blur / artifacting on high resolution edges.

Interesting battle developing between Ubisoft and Take Two. Watch Dogs has been universally hammered over the past week after their latest releases showed significantly downgraded visuals on the current gen versions of the game. Ubisoft is in damage control mode, trying to minimize the damage, but it likely is too late.

Now, we know that the Grand Theft Auto V release on PS4/PC/X1 is slated for June, but rumors are that Take Two may look to upstage Ubisoft and also release on May 27th. That would make for an interesting battle and would definitely create problems for a game that's had more than one setback in its development cycle.

Interesting chatter today from Pete Dodd. First, he discusses Batman pre-orders.

Quote:
I was told last night by a guy at MS that Batman is being preordered, in the US, to the tune of 4 to 1 in favor of the PS4 currently.

Then he also talks about Titanfall.

Quote:
Marketing guys project that Titanfall has already helped sell around 1 million Xbox Ones. This is based off of things like upticks in sales after every major Titanfall announcements. They don’t know if it will move 200k more at this point. The titanfall bundle is selling less than Microsoft projected (but they are still hopeful for a big swing come tuesday).
