no surprise. England was crazy not to keep playing and hand 2 or 3 more on them ... Russia missing Dzagoev and Denisov doesn´t help, but the coach playing 3 central strikers up front is pretty weird as well ...

Chile and Argentina looked good last night. The upcoming Quarterfinal match between Mexico and Chile may end up being the match of the tournament.

Just left Lille, I'd be stunned if there isn't more serious violence tonight. Fair numbers of England fans already squaring up to massive numbers of police in the main square and a number of bars close to the station, coach loads of extra police being brought in.

Didn't see any Russia fans causing trouble but lots of anti-Russia songs being sang, I doubt they are going to sit back all night

What a goal by Hamsik. (Mehmedi's wasn't a bad strike either, but that ball fell perfectly while Hamsik created the space.) Hamsik smashes shot off the post and in for 2-0 lead - ESPN Video

And to no one's surprise, Didier Deschamps continues to make baffling decisions.

I´m not a 100% sure if it isn´t a tactical decision aimed to rest those 2 guys (Pogba and especially Griezmann) who both looked kinda tired after their long seasons.

And France seals it with a 2nd goal five minutes into injury time.

Given the rumors of disagreements between him and Pogba and Deschamps history, I'm not giving him the benefit of the doubt. But it certainly gave Griezmann a chance to be a hero!

It was definitely a shot. Hart didn't even move until the ball was well past the wall.

Getting what we deserve: plenty of possession, no cutting edge and a manager who is cautious to a fault. Playing Kane on his own against three centre halves when he's looking tired anyway, and when there's three centre midfielders when he drops deep is ludicrous.

He's selected two of the best three English midfielders this season (Dier and Alli) but picked a centre forward instead of the most talented (Wilshere) and the other one of the three best (Drinkwater is not even in the squad).

Then he plays Sterling who is out of form and confidence - he's running away from the ball making himself unable to receive the ball.

Plus not playing the second top scorer in the league in Vardy, probably the best out and out finisher in Sturridge, and the young sensation in Rashford. All or any of these would make a difference - first time I've been really annoyed with Hodgson, was just a little annoyed for the last half hour against Russia.

As I type, at least he's bringing Sturridge and Vardy on.

This Welsh defense is like a hockey line... if a shot comes, get down to the ground and block it. It's worked, mostly.

Wales go down to the ground one too many times. So many bodies in the 6 you couldn't hardly see what happened on the Sturridge goal even on replay... but I have to think if the last man hadn't gone down, he might've been able to get a foot in there.

As a swansea fan, I was shocked he didn't start considering he shreds our defense every time.

Good 2nd half for England as the Welsh got bruned playing for the draw.

Because other players played well for England six months ago

Wasn't great, but snuck over the line, and just get the feeling if we do anything it's despite Hodgson rather than because of him.

Very relieved by the result and fingers crossed that Hodgson actually comes up with a workable tactical plan at some point ... presently our starting eleven doesn't gel, Sterling while fast has very limited end product (partially lack of confidence, partially he just isn't that technically great) and I'd like to see more of Vardy.

Rooney I'm torn on, on one hand he loses the ball a bit much (holds on too long and tries too much too deep) on the other hand - he seems calm and confident and the younger players visibly do look to him for an example ...

PS - OMG Northern Ireland ... was watching that match before I had to leave for a doctors appointment, great result for them

And just like that, Ukraine is the first team knocked out in Euro2016.

They can still tie Northern Ireland in points for third place, but will lose out on the head-to-head result.

WOW, by far the greatest win of Klinsmann's career! Well done with moving Johnson to the right and having Besler on the left. Fantastic performance! But next game (likely against Argentina) is going to have a ton of juggling of the lineup.

Yep. I think we'll have to do a 4-2-3-1 in the next game (please no 4-4-2 with Wondo and Dempsey), and do something like...

-------------Dempsey-------------
-Pulisic------Nagbe------Zardes-
------Bradley---Beckerman------
Johnson-Cameron-Brooks-Yedlin

No way Klinsi starts Nagbe or Pulisic for the first time in a major tournament semifinal against likely Argentina. If I'm guessing what the lineup would actually be...more like

----------------Wondo-------------
-Zardes-----Dempsey-----Zusi-
------Bradley---Beckerman------
Johnson-Cameron-Brooks-Yedlin

Tiki Taka is back. If Spain carry this confidence forward and Morata can be the complete forward and goal scorer they have been missing, you have to think they will be favorites from here on out

Turkey aren't great, but this has been a masterclass

Yeah, lets not get too carried away... it is Turkey. Just a few days ago people were getting worried about Spain because they didn't look all that impressive.

I thought they looked pretty good in game 1 as well ...

Meanwhile, some croatian "fans" managed to smuggle a truckload of flares and firecrackers into the stadium and threw them onto the pitch with Croatia up 2:1. Then it looked like a portion of the other fans turned on them and then the 2 groups started beating the crap out of each other even as the game resumed after a 5 minute break ... Game ends 2:2 after Croatia looked mighty impressive (again, looked great against Turkey as well) for 75 minutes.

Might have been the last Czech game for Rosicky who pulled a muscle after another damn admirable performance after missing basically the whole season with heavy injuries (running for 2, always available for the pass, clever passing). Assisted the 1:2 with a beautiful cross with the outside of his boot. One of my favourite players of all time, its a shame his career was derailed by injuries the way it was
