Saw that Obama was visiting Hiroshima and I got the horrible thought wondering if his entrance music would be The Gap Band's "You Dropped a Bomb on Me"

I made a note of when my work printer's "low ink light" came on, with a message asking me to change the toner. It was 45 days ago.
Today was the first time that I could see where the pages are printing any lighter. Printers are such a racket. |

I always hear "Planet Claire" from the B-52s in that context. I don't know why.

Just got the grades for my daughter's application (interview only) to a top notch high school in our area. She ranked in the bottom 25%... I am guessing that she didn't sell her well enough. Still a "slim" chances she could get in as they also tkae into account the regular grades from lower school and they might mix up the applicants area. There are 100 applications and they are taking 48 kids.
However, I am not feeling good at the moment. Last edited by Alf : 05-11-2016 at 11:28 AM. |

Bart is now the Metro Director for YL in Athens/Oconee, and as such has been the speaker multiple times to the hundreds of college kids gathering at the YL building there on Baxter every night. Agnes (the driver, who is still in a coma as of the last I heard this morning) was on part-time staff with YL, working under Bart. As for Rich, one of the girls who died was his niece, Christina. They were pretty close, both living in the Atlanta area. Last summer Rich was the camp speaker for a month at a YL Camp in Colorado, and Christina went with him as a volunteer horse wrangler. This has been a particularly rough time for Rich; a day or two after Christina's funeral, Rich's father passed away as well.

I'm going through some 30 For 30's on Youtube and it always amuses me that people will go through the effort of messing with the video placement, aspect ratio, and sound distortion, in an attempt to fool the auto detection that they use to delete copyrighted material, and then just name the video 30 For 30 Chasing Tyson.
It's even more amusing that those videos stay up for months. |

Watching a bit of the 30 for 30 on Cleveland sports. Kevin Mack looks like he is in his 20s.

So my kid's school did Senior Superlatives this morning.
He got ... Most Opinionated. I don't think this really settles the whole nature vs nurture question at all.

My daughter (6) said she didn't want to invite a boy to her birthday later this year, because he didn't invite her to his.
Well, he did, but since the wife was out of town for the umpteenth weekend in a row, I didn't feel like trudging her to another birthday party, especially to the party of a kid she has literally not mentioned all schoolyear. So I just threw away the invitation when I got it. Rather than telling her the truth, I'll just carry this secret to my deathbed. Also, she and another girl have decided they will both marry the same boy, and each other, since they can't choose which one of them will get to marry the boy. Not sure that will work at her Catholic school, but we do live next to a Mormon temple. |

Saw something called Flanders Beef Patties in the store yesterday. 16 1/4lb burgers for $7.99. Brain says "hold on cowboy, this sounds too good to be true", heart says "yeah, but even if they're just passable, that's still a great deal. You've never met a microwave cheeseburger you didn't like, and you love McDonalds ya fat bastard. Surely these are at least as good as those."
Got home and opened the box to find 16 gray patties just sitting in a box, no inner packaging, no nothing, they look like frozen lint. Zero fear, I'll cook em up and give em a try. Throw em on the stove, come back 10 minutes later to an amazing amount of grease and absolutely no juice. Dear lord. Try and flip em over and they nearly fall apart, despite the fact that they seem to be charred into bricks on the cooked side. As I let them finish cooking I go online and look for reviews. Ruh roh. I decide to be brave and try and eat them anyway, despite appearing to be mostly made of soy, seasonings and beef hearts. I'll be damned if they didn't taste ten times worse than they looked. Might have been the nastiest thing I ever put in my mouth and damn sure the nastiest thing I ever had the gumption to swallow. |

My favorite review might have been a guy who gave detailed cooking instructions and concluded with the line, At this point they might be good enough to feed to your dog.

That McDonalds advert with the wedding couple who get a surprise quarter pounder at the end of the night in their limo might be the most annoying advert I've seen in a long time.
They are clearly at an expensive wedding which has good food but they don't get a chance to eat, so why the fuck doesn't dad of the year just save some of the nice food and put that in the car rather than presumably leaving his daughters own wedding to drive to the nearest McDonald's and buy two three dollar fifty burgers? We had the cheapest Mexican food we could possibly find at our wedding, by the time we got to eat there was only a tiny amount of rice and beans left and I still would have got out of the car and punched my dad in the face if he'd have left two quarter pounders in the car for us at the end of the night. It's possible I'm over thinking this |

Yes yes yes. If aliens ever landed, and those aliens got an NHL team called the Alien Grays, and had a commemorative puck, it would look like these things. And that McDonalds commercial has long infuriated me. It's one thing to stretch reality, it's another thing to grab it by it's legs and stretch it till it's in 3 pieces. I'd completely understand the groom being happy with a Big Mac, but for that woman, in that commercial, at that wedding, in that dress, the only plausible way that situation should ever end is with her looking at the burger and just saying "the fuck..." |

Well, yeah that annoys me as well. He either left his daughters wedding to drive to the nearest McDonalds, or that quarter pounder is 6 hours old and that's even worse. I'm definitely overthinking this, aren't I? |

I'm not sure what's so funny about that. Non-vegans die on Mt Everest all the time. She was right!

I feel like when we make first contact, we're definitely going to have to explain to the aliens why there are dead frozen people all over the highest mountain in the world. In that sense I don't really get it.
It's also getting to the point where the dead people are actually a hazard to the living people trying to climb the mountain |

A couple of interesting (to me at least) observations in the last hour.
For lunch a couple days a week I get one of those "make your own salads". A ton of choices, you point and tell the guys which 6 ingredients you want, select a dressing, they mix, and give it to you to go pay. I'm sure they have these everywhere. I typically get this roasted orange cauliflower in mine as it's very good. After I chose it in mine, the woman next to me chose a couple ingredients of her own, then points to the cauliflower and goes "sweet potato!". Now, I'll give her some slack and say maybe her vision isn't good enough to distinguish between the two, but who the hell puts sweet potato, or any potato, in a leafy green salad? Second...guy in the office bathroom is brushing his teeth. Not my thing but that's fine. I've seen him brushing before, but this time I noticed that he used his free hand to pull down his bottom lip so he had better access to his gum line for brushing purposes. It caught my eye because I don't recall ever seeing toothbrushing being a two-handed job. Or is that just me too? Last edited by Logan : 05-26-2016 at 12:37 PM. |
