Suprised Fisher went that early in the clock, I think Pitt was too. Hopefully he knocks these down and pushes to 2 possesion land.

I had Pitt winning it in my 2nd bracket, more because I lacked conviction about anyone else after my top choice, UNC. I'd actually rather see Nova win this.

Yes. That was one of the most boneheaded plays I've seen in the final minute. Reminds me of Chris Webber.

I always think of the Edney one:

YouTube - 4.8 - Tyus Edney 1995 NCAA Tournament

In watching both though, I think Reynolds faced more contention than either when he got to the hole....but had he missed we'd be watching OT, so the pressure wasn't quite as high.

I'm so glad that Fields and Young are finally done at Pitt. Young really rounded out his game this season -- he has made himself into a really, really good player.

Glad to see 'Nova move on. I think Jay Wright is a really good and under-rated, classy head coach. I'm happy to see him get a shot in the limelight.

I don't watch a lot of college basketball, but I'm wondering what the strategy was for Pitt to press in last five seconds. In the NBA, you might see coaches press the point guard down the floor, but leave everyone else back. Do college coaches think that players can't handle the ball? Why not just follow the NBA strategy, have players back and, at the very least, force a low percentage long range shot?

So, as the resident 'Nova fan on the board, all I can say is:

W00000000000000000000000000TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was out with my group at one of the local bars on campus, and it was absolute madness. As you might imagine, we though that it was pretty much over before that boneheaded inbounds pass up the court. Place went from delirious to pin-drop level.

Of course, Scottie went coast-to-coast to send us to the Final Four!

My friend and I just bought tickets on Stub-Hub for $250 a piece. Looks like we'll be making the 8-hour trip to Detroit next weekend. We might regret it in the morning, but right now, it's oh so sweet.

Couple weird things on that last play.

-Didn't like the defensive call at all. Too aggressive and it let Reynolds get into the open court. I would have pressed but more loosely. With 5 seconds a moderate press should force a crazy off-balanced 3.

- Reynolds had a wide open guy on the baseline he could have passed to for a dunk.

- The Pitt guy was in perfect position to draw a charge but didn't hold his ground. He actually committed a foul that wasn't called.

SI

I'm not even sure that UConn got their legs back. Mizzou just missed several key shots, most of which were wide open. I can remember two or three open 3-point looks late in the game that would have given us the lead. If any of them go, MU might have had a shot at the upset.

UConn's guards had some troubles with the pressure, but the inside guys had some great spacing, which lead to some easy baskets.

After watching those games yesterday, I thought it was pretty evident that all of those four teams yesterday were Final Four worthy. Nice to have good games as Friday had a few stinkers.

Or a foul on Reynolds, an 80+% FT shooter.

You say this as if Nova had ten seconds or more on the clock. By the time Reynolds gets down near the basket, he only has about 2.50 seconds left.

Again, this goes back to Reynolds. Probably why he went up instead of passing was that he was fouled by Dixon (even though the ref didn't call it)

But considering: (1) the phantom call on Redding in the first half, (2) the continuation on a Pitt basket that wasn't in the second and, (3) allowing Blair to walk all over the court; the refs were pretty inconsistent in calling the game.

I noticed that too. He actually moved his body to the left when Reynolds went up. I think they would have called the charge too, being that the game was tied.

I think today's games have a couple interesting aspects to them. I'm curious in the MSU game whether or not Izzo can scheme something that keeps this game in the 4-5 pt range late. Louisville's FT shooting (or lack thereof) would make me very interested in playing a 4-5 pt game with them. I would almost give up any chance of being ahead, if you could guarantee me I'm close. Izzo seems (at least publicly) to want to run with Louisville which I think might be a mistake. Maybe he's just trying to mess with Pitino's head.

In the second game, I'm curious how may Griffin will get, and realistically how many he can get with NC still winning the game. I think he can get 30 and lose, but I'm not sure if he gets to 40, and I do think that's feasible here. I don't know if they can win with him having 20 though, unless Oklahoma shoots lights out.

Does anyone know where to find accurate historical college basketball rosters? last night i busted out my old sega and played some coach k college basketball - just wondering where to find accurate rosters so i can type something up w/ all the players in the game.

i tried statsheet.com (which would have worked perfectly) but it only has individual stats going back to the 96-97 season, but coach k has the 1994-95 seasons rosters which is what i need.

i could try to search for each team individually but was looking for something more consolidated or simple.... any ideas?

ps - go michigan st!!

Pretty much agree here. I expect Griffin to get between 20 and 30 and am fine with that. I could easily see him getting 30 and it not meaning that they win. I think the biggest factor will be how he does on the offensive boards, if he's just getting his points in the post that's fine, if he's getting a lot of second chance points that could pose a problem.

Izzo and company have done a great job so far in this one keeping the tempo manageable. Playing through Suton so heavily was a master stroke, he's been efficient and he's definitely not afraid of the moment. Mich. St. has to dodge the patented Louisville run. If they can do this, the game is going to be close late and I think MSU has an excellent shot to win a game like that.

I think if he's in the 40s its probably trouble. For a big guy to get into the 40s it usually means he's getting you in foul trouble and converting a high percentage (because it's hard to get that many natural touches as a big guy). NC is a very efficient offensive team so you don't want Griffin to be able to match them in efficiency if he's taking most of their shots (or you end up in a coin flip game).
