It's funny you bring those up, since there have been five Jack Ryan movies (admittedly, only one actually named Jack Ryan, and four different actors heh heh), and they are currently working on Jack Reacher 2 (and the book they're doing it on is one of my favorites from that series, so that rocks).

Bluetooth earbuds. I finally tried some and absolutely loved them for running and working out. That said, I have gone through FIVE PAIRS in the last two and a half months or so.
Every time it's the same: I get them, I wear them 2-3 times at the gym, and then... kaput. They die on me. I've tried different brands and types. I think what happens is that I sweat too much, the sweat gets into the delicate electronics and ruins it. My fifth pair just died today with about 4 minutes left in my run. They haven't cost me a lot, since I keep getting them on sale. I think it may finally just be the time to take the plunge and get a more expensive pair. The struggle is real.

I'd say 65-70% of the kids we've had knock on our door for candy haven't even uttered "Trick or Treat."
Kids these days.

I am so glad ToT is almost over forever. The houses are really spread out. Almost always have to drive to my parent's or a nearby neighborhood. I really feel like a dick but there's just a small cluster(5) of houses in my neighborhood. We've never had anyone knock on our door.

We get about 150 kids at my house. But we are the beaten path. The main loop houses see way more than that.

A person in my office just asked if we vote for the president today.
Edited to add: I just realized I should have said yes and asked who she was voting for.

So I'm having a random thought right, recollecting a conversation I had about 25 years ago with a counselor at a hospital I was "staying" in.
We got like 2 hours in the game room every night, and me and this fella would play ping pong every night. Without fail for my entire stay he beat me. Finally, about a week before I was scheduled to get out, we engaged in an epic. The final tally was something along the lines of 21-5, 22-24, 21-6, 19-21, 23-25, with me winning the first and third sets. After the game was over I congratulated him and remarked that I was OK with losing, because I knew that I had outplayed him. Now, for an adult in a position of authority, he got quite upset with my remark, saying that if I had outplayed him I would have won the game. I of course pointed out that the 3 sets he won could not have been any tighter, while the 2 sets I won were clear blowouts, he was adamant however that I had not outplayed him. I let it go when it was clear that he was taking great offense, but to this day I still contend that I outplayed him. So fuck him. Last edited by Suicane75 : 11-03-2015 at 10:00 PM. |

Funny story. Only playing devil's advocate here because that's what I do, so don't take offense. It could be argued that those 3 well fought games that he won he did outplay you overall in the sense that in crunch time, under stress, with you both playing very well in those 3 games, he beat you. The remaining 2 games you dominated, he may very well have threw in the towel a little ways in (and that is on him and no excuse, if he just 'quit'). This argument is used often in all sports that so and so team 'outplayed' the other team but lost. Hell, I've used it and after the fact I get mad at myself for using that argument because I know it annoys me when it is used against me or my team. In the end though, I would agree with him. He outplayed you over 5 games. So fuck me too, I guess |

They're the kind you have to peel off completely before putting it in the oven. And for years and years they would always, as you said, tear half way, not tear clean, leave me having to peel little pieces off, to the point that I would often tear the actual container the food was in too. I've learned that if you put it in the over with the plastic on for a minute or two and then take it out, the plastic peels off pretty easily, but it's still a major annoyance. And that guy didn't concede a single point, he was a very good ping pong player and as you can tell, a spirited competitor, even against a manic depressive 15 year old. So he wasn't letting up even when down. He gave me his best the entire game. And I outplayed him. Fuck him. |

So let's recap the information flow for today just a bit.
So far in the past, oh, 6 hours I've read about: a Kentucky police officer shot in the head while invesigating a burglary call, a "hero" cop that turned out to be an embezzler who killed himself rather than be caught, a multiple stabbing incident on a college campus in California where police terminated the offender, an Oklahoma (drunk?) driver charged with 4 counts of second-degree murder & 46 counts of assault, a South Carolina mother who may have tried to drown her five-month old in a creek, an on-going possible hostage situation at a San Diego apt complex, and an apparently phony nurse was treating Whitney Houston's daughter at the time of her death. Oh and apparently the nightclub fire tragedy has toppled the Romanian government. And next week Fallout 4 finally arrives. My point? Hell I'm not sure there is one exactly, other than maybe the notion that even I -- notorious information junkie that I am -- can eventually feel a bit overloaded.

I only ever watched the 70's cartoon, so I don't know the answer to this and yet I'm slightly interested. In Scooby-Doo cannon, did Fred ever hook up with Velma or Daphne? And I'm not talking about creepy fan fiction.

Not in the cartoons that I recall. It was inferred by the audience but not directly shown in that light. In the subsequent live-action stuff they do eventually date & even get engaged at one point.

A) I didn't think Anyone would answer me.
B) If anyone did, My least amount wagered would have been on Jon, but thanks for the answer. I refuse to watch cartoons made after 1980 or Freddie Prinze Jr. movies, so I'm out of the loop. I may have posted this recently, I'm not sure, but I'm digging back through the archives to find out. But it occurs to me that the word capital isn't used nearly enough as an adjective anymore. For instance, this thread was a capital idea. |

Backyard chickens are not a good idea. My guess is I spent something near $50-75 a dozen for what we ended up getting out of our first crop. Very tempted to sell the coop so my wife doesn't get any grand ideas next spring. The first year was OK for a few months after they got old enough. Then some died during the winter cause it was so cold. Eventually the 3 survivors started laying again this spring, but eventually went into molting and hadn't layed since July. So I kept feeding them and cleaning up after them. I tried to give them away, but had no takers. After 2 of them died over the last month or so, I had the last one destroyed. I wouldn't recommend it unless you live somewhere really warm with a lot of sunlight.

You know on the 5th of November, I wonder how many people who recite that poem realize that it isn't celebrating Guy Fawks, but indicating that terrorists are going to get killed. Basically, remember if you try to be a terrorist, you are getting fucked.
Kind of like a "Remember 9/11" thing.

Most web sites geared toward social media have some sort of list of top stories.
I don't think a single day goes by without an update on what some member of the Kardashian/Jenner amalgamation of people was wearing in some Instagram post. For those of you with teens who live on social media, do they just talk about these people non-stop, all day long? Surely someone cares a lot, or it wouldn't be everywhere every day. |

PODS just fucked me worse than any company I've ever been privileged to interact with. Leading to mad scramble driving around trying to find a storage unit big enough to fit all my stuff and with a full team of movers in a truck in tow and probably thousands in moving costs
Sometimes when a company has such mediocre reviews it's best to stay away no matter how cheap and convenient it appears. Lesson learned |

People keep posting that "You have no power here" meme without realizing that they're indicating the person does have power, since Saruman was indeed wrong on that point.

Lamar Odom came up last night while out to dinner with a bunch of friends. Someone then said that his wife was the "most normal" of all the Kardashians. I was surprised that one of my peers had put even that much thought into that. (FWIW, I have no idea which Kardashian he is married to. I think the only Kardashian I could even name is Kim).
