Evans and Ebanks could both end up at Memphis.

By starting the twins together, Trent Johnson may have cost himself another year of Robin Lopez.

Yeah, but I don't see him getting significantly better next year anyway. This way, they might even be able to get him a nice package deal contract with some team that really wants Brook.

They were never going to stay in school if they weren't together (was Robin the one that was suspended for a significant amount of time for skipping class?), and I think it's infinitely better that Brook takes the money now rather than play another year and risk blowing his knee out, even if it means Robin gets picked a bit lower than he otherwise would have.

If true, Trent should bolt for another job. He isn't going to make it past next year

He told Fox he will visit WVU along with the other 3. I've also heard he is friends with the NY guard we signed this year, Truck Bryant.

Next year is probably going to be an NIT at best year for Stanford, which will be hard to swallow....but after this year, in which the team overachieved (at least if you read the Athlon and Street & Smith preview mags, as I hopelessly do every year), I think the boosters and administration have loosened their rip on trent's throat. It's amazing one difference a single basket can make, because if Brook Lopez misses that circus shot against Marquette, and Stanford goes home in the second round again, then Trent is on a seat hotter than....something really hot.

Rodrick Stewart out with a fractured kneecap. Not that anyone outside of the main rotations is going to see many minutes if any in this Final Four, but every little bit helps.

That has to be one of the most phenomenally dumb injuries of all time, especially since Rodrick doesn't have much of a future in basketball after this (even without the knee injury). Going up for a showoff dunk and hurting yourself, thus removing the possibility you will appear in a Final Four game, the pinnacle of your college basketball career? That's the sorta thing that can haunt a guy.

Today's the day...

I'm on call this weekend and have already had to go out for 4 hours this morning so I'm hoping the phone stays quiet tonight. So you hear that, anyone who has a server in KC- better make sure it doesn't go down between the hours of 7 and 10 tonight

That aside, downtown Lawrence is already packed with blue clad people. A lot of bars and restaurants are closing at 4 and chasing people out to reopen at 4:30 to prevent people from staying there all day. Also, some places are instituting hourly table minimums (ie each hour there, you have to spend at least $20)

Wooo. Go UCLA!

Watching that segment about the Memphis players was sure enlightening. "No Offense to Tom Izzo, Rick Barnes, but we KILLED those teams". Nice.

Joey Dorsey is almost 25. How does that happen?

My guess would be he was 19 when he went to college and either red shirted or medical red shirted one season.

I'm not sure what to think about UCLA. Memphis is hitting some tough shots on good plays for them. But UCLA is playing their style and is right there with them.

Yup. Love is winded and Collison hasn't been a factor other then that last shot. And Memphis has been lights out on some tough shots. I'm not worried yet but UCLA needs an answer for CDR

Did Aundre Allen really get left at home, or did #4 eat him? That's the widest basketball player I've ever seen...

On the whole, a good result for UCLA to only be down 3 at the half. They were clearly the second best team for most of the game so far, and Love is keeping them in it. Collison and Westbrook need to pick it up or Memphis might run away with it.

I'm not sure what else you really want from Westbrook. He's clearly been UCLA's best player on the floor

Other than the times he did a nice statue impression while Rose went right around him for a layup? Love looks like the only one out there that his busting his ass, just my humble opinion.

Eh, he's not really contesting much. He did get beat on one ugly play, but it's been Collison on Rose most of the game.

Win or Lose, I think Westbrook is leaving early

Not much chatter on the early game. Aside from my two calls this morning, I just got back from another call so I'm dead tired and I was only able to listen to the first half of the UCLA/Memphis game.

Parts of downtown Lawrence look like they were closed off when I was coming back.

I gotta say I'm not all that excited about our chances, thinking we're maybe the underdog of a 55/45 matchup. If we get the bad side of the reffing stick, as I'm really concerned about (i.e. every time Hansbrough touches the ball, one of our big men gets whistled), it's more like 2/1.

It looks like Memphis is taking control of this game. I have a feeling the 2nd game won't be as competitive.

If Love is smart, he stays for another year and develops his body more, but I think he is going to go pro.

Calapari is working Howland like a speed bag. On offense, he simply posts up whomever Collison is guarding. On defense, he is completely taking Love out of the post. Howland needs to spread the floor better to get Love the ball and Colliison's foul may be a blessing on D.

Probably because he was the top analyst for NBC prior to that.

As Bill Simmons recently pointed out, Packer has worked every Final Four since 1975. He didn't go to CBS until 1981, but with several successful years with Enberg & McGuire behind him by then, he was pretty much the clear choice. Off hand I wonder how many other candidates there were when Packer assumed the role over 30 years ago. And although Simmons article mostly rips on Packer, how many are there/have there been who meet his grudging description of being "... one of a kind. He loves dissecting strategies and understands the sport as well as anyone. He's always impeccably prepared. He has a knack for pointing out things before they happen. His arguments are usually well-reasoned. And he certainly doesn't sugarcoat his opinions and isn't afraid to take an unpopular stance."
