Point taken, ISiddiqui. I was just thinking that a thread draft might be REALLY fun!

I just want everyone to know what is at stake. Qwik's best point is that since it's an internet league, it's MUCH easier to drop out if your team is non-competative. If that happens, finding an owner who wants to take a bad team will be hard.

Some options that I thought of...

1. One keeper at each position.
2. x number of keeper players.
3. The number of dropped players determins draft order. Same basic premise, but if you drop more than 8, you can get the top pick, possibly multiple top picks.

Or we can keep the existing system.

I have some thoughts on the keeper system having read through the post with you and QS. First off, although we're planning on this being a long-term endeavor, I think there's a good possibility we'll need at least one replacement owner by next year (no disrespect intended towards current team members). Online communities tend to change over time, life events could have an impact on someone's abilities to come here frequently or at all, someone could get pissed off at SkyDog and never show up again, or any number of explanations. Further, if someone does really well in the first draft, they could be set for the next few years since they could conceivably keep all their important starters with 8 picks. Worse, if someone did really horribly through either luck, injuries, or ineffectiveness of players, they could be horribly screwed for a couple of years. My fear in that case, as you stated, is that someone could decide they didn't feel like staying in the league and being a doormat for 2-3 years and drop out, which as you pointed out would make finding a replacement owner difficult. With fewer keepers, there's less possibility of getting that screwed, and if you have a bad record, you'll have better choices at the top of the draft where you'll be picking.

So, that's just my thought and I have little experience with keeper leagues as it is. sachmo obviously was able to keep his together over a period of 5 years with his rules, so he's got some good history there. Still, my own desire would be something like 3-5 keepers, no more than 1 per position. I know that's a far cry different than what you proposed, but you get the best of both worlds in having players that are 'Your guys' while still having a pretty big class to draft from each year. I also like that idea of possibly getting several high picks by not using all your keeper slots, but in my proposal it probably wouldn't be needed as much.

But I'll happily go along with whatever anyway, just throwing this out.

JAG, for what it's worth, my preference would be 1 player per position also. My league was started with one system, and moved to the 8 or more keepers later, but it was mostly a group of guys that knew each other. Over the net, that might not fly.

I'd also vote for 1 player per position with a max of 3-5. However, I'm fine with whatever the league ultimately decides.

The draft will be done in one day, on Saturday, September 4th at 8pm CST. Please post any scheduling conflicts here, and we'll see if we can work around them. Since this is a keeper league, you'll probably want to be there.

Also, please post your vote for the keeper system.

Option 1: Keep it the way it is (keep 8 or more, sacrifice draft rounds for each keeper over 8)
Option 2: Keep one player per skill position (QB, RB, WR or TE)

Option 2 and that day is fine for me.

Here's hoping for Q-Tip Carter and Ricky Williams in rounds 1 and 2.

Is that Labor Day weekend? It doesn't matter to me as my wife will have to work and that time would be fine, but I imagine it might be problematic for some people if it is. I'm sort of torn between between option 1 and 2, and wonder if I might offer option 3

Max of 5 keepers, no more than 2 at any one skill position.

Of the two choices, I much prefer option 2. I'm not sure about the time since that's Labor Day weekend. I'll have to check, I might be going out of town (only the wife knows my true schedule, I just have vague impressions of what might be happening).

Ditto Aylmar for everything. To be clear, does that mean 4 total keepers or you can keep all the kickers you want?

A total of 3 keepers (1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR OR TE). No kickers, no defenses are kept.

EDIT: dola (almost 3 weeks, but still ),

Anyone else have conflicts with the Saturday Sept. 4th 8pm CST draft time? I found out I'll likely be in Columbus that weekend until sometime on Sunday the 5th.

Wow, I totally missed this. I was wondering what was up with the draft. I kept checking the sportsline site and couldn't find the info.

I can't do this time. 8 p.m. CST is 3 a.m. Sunday for me. I'm 7 hours ahead of CST.

Are we really that set on having a live draft? I've done a "24 hour" draft before. It's the slow draft system, giving each person "24 hours" to draft. It usually takes a few days, things pick up during the day. It was a lot of fun though.

As for the Keeper system, doesn't really bother me. I am fine with anything.

In case some people don't have email notification turned on at the CBS website...

Several people are having issues with the chosen draft time. A proposal has been put forward to start a forum draft at FOFC. I'll need to hear from everyone on this, whether you are for this proposal or against, or even if you don't care, because I will be counting your vote as your confirmation of remaining in the league.

The current draft date is Saturday, September 4th at 8pm CST.

I need to hear from everyone on this. Thanks.

Forum draft is fine with me, but I agree we need to start soon. If we are staying with a live draft, I'd prefer either the proposed time, or a time that is during the day on a weekend.

How about the commish? An owner will title the list "6-10 List" if the list is for the 10th pick in the 6th round. That way the commish wont open it until that pick is up. Or you could do "6-10 and 7-3 list" if you want to put in a list for both picks.

Sending PM's, but feel free to respond here. We have to see where EVERYONE stands on this before starting the draft.

TheLionKing- I'll be happy to make your picks from a list, or I could email you when your pick comes around? Do you have email access at that time? Instand messaging?

BTW, there will now only be three keepers for each team. I'll update the website with this rule.

1 QB
1 RB
1 WR or TE

The draft section will be updated to reflect the change. There will be no option for moving up. You don't have to keep anyone if you don't want to.

I'll be honest, considering the time it has taken for a few owners to post whether they want a forum draft, I would give it a 50/50 shot of us getting out of the 5th round by the start of the season.

Please be patient on this. Everyone deserves at least 24 hours to look at the board and see what the plans are, especially when they are radically different than what they may have been expecting.

I fully expect the draft to be finished, probably within a week. Drafts are one of the best parts.

BTW, if you look at the draft order on the website, it has not been randomized yet. When we are ready to draft, I'll randomize the order. I'll let everyone know when this is done.

It's been 30 hours. I've done drafts by email and forum before and if some picks are taking that amount of time we won't be able to finish. Within a week definitely won't happen. We have 14 teams with 16 players. Thats 224 picks. To finish in a week, we would have to average more than a pick every hour. Thats not going to happen.

I apologize if I sound pessimistic, but I have done many of these things and don't want the league members to underestimate the committment that is necessary for things to run smoothly.

I'm glad that the randomization still hasn't occurred. Also, I completely agree with you that everyone should be given at least 24 hours to respond to this new plan of action. I hate when plans suddenly change and a league expects everyone to respond immediately.

Well, hopefully the first round will go rather quickly, so that might cut down on the time some. We'll just have to deal with what we have.

It was 30 hours since my post, but I only emailed the stragglers today. If they don't respond soon, we'll have to see where things are.
