Hey guys. I want to apologize for the long delay here. The little woman and I are looking into buying a house, and right now that is sucking up all of my free time and energy. When I get home from work, I just feel tired and devoid of all creativity. Hopefully things will settle down soon and I can get to finishing this season. Thanks for your patience! The Silicon Pirates and I will return to face our destiny... I promise!

Epic threads?

Sorry to accidentally trick you, SI. Of course, in replying, I may end up doing the same to someone else. I'm not really trying to tease anyone by the long wait. I just haven't had the time or energy to work on this recently. I will promise everyone who follows this thread that when I start this thing up again, I will finish this season completely with daily updates without another break. I swear it. Plus, I gotta wrap this up in time to be eligible for the 2004 Golden Scribes.

Hmmm. A blatant attempt to get his dynasty thread in the the mind of the voters.

From what I understand, Natalie doesn't like it when studio execs...or dynasty writers shamelessly try to give their projects an early jump on the competition.

I think I may have to ask her to come with me to the Scribes this year.

I should apologize, as I believe I was the one who lured Kodos into posting non-dynasty information in this thread.

Sorry to have been such a temptress.

Er...tempter. I meant tempter. Tempter is what I meant to say.

Oh, Jeeber, you awful. Me likey.

BTW, Kodos, I did some house hunting in the Chicago area (that's where you are when you're on this planet, right?) a few years back. If you have any questions about any of the western or outlying suburbs, PM me. I might be able to save you some work.

Jimmy Johnson could outcoach Don Shula with his eyes closed.

Dan Marino was the king of choke, and couldn't beat Troy Aikman with a shoe.

Jason Taylor is a wanna be Charles Haley.

Is that enough for him Jeeber? ;- )

Well after the Texas sun had set for the night, All-Pro tight end Chuck Farley found himself catching balls from second-string QB Dana Alston under the lights at the Silicon Pirates' sports complex. Alston, who was being pressed into duty for Gatesville's upcoming game against the Redskins because of Devin Bergeron's sprained knee, knew that the stakes were high for his team. Already a game behind the Redskins and the Cardinals in the NFC East, Alston was only too aware that the Pirates could ill afford to drop two games behind their division rivals. With a look of determination in his eyes, Alston reared back and threw another pass to the aging tight end.

* * * * *

A hundred yards away, the besieged GM of the Silicon Pirates briefly awoke from an uneasy slumber, then let his head fall back onto the mess of papers that covered his desk, retreating once again into the solace of dreams.

* * * * *

One hundred miles to the north, a full moon illuminated the world-famous blue star at midfield in the otherwise darkened Texas Stadium. Somewhere, beneath the star, a terrified man whimpered in the unending night, and prayed that he would one day see the sun rise again...

Unfortunately, that man's name was not JeeberD...

Week 10

Washington (6-2) at Gatesville (5-3)
============================================

Attendance:
44,700 bought tickets, but 2,600 were no-shows.

Injury Update:

Dana Alston got the start for this game in place of the injured Devin Bergeron.

Zack Terrell started in place of Terrance Read at right tackle.

In general, our defense was pretty banged up for this game.

The Game:

Our Week 10 game versus the Redskins looked to be a pivotal game in our season. A victory would move us into second place ahead of the Redskins by virtue of our superior record within the division, while a loss would leave us 2 games behind them with 7 games to go in the regular season.

Washington struck early with a 3-yard Glen Palazzo run in the first quarter, and the Skins extended their lead to 10-0 with a 32-yard Wade Richey field goal following an interception thrown by Dana Alston. Alston made amends later in the quarter by hitting Earl Thornton for his first touchdown reception of the season. The crowd rewarded Thornton with a great roar of approval for his first touchdown since returning from a torn rotator cuff injury sustained during the 2016 season. Despite the celebration, we still trailed 10-7 after 15 minutes of play.

Broderick Hidalgo lifted us into a tie in the second quarter with a 31-yard field goal, but Redskins running back Glen Palazzo soon put us behind once more with his second rushing touchdown of the day, this one from 2 yards out.

With 1:07 left in the half, Alston floated an arcing 32-yard touchdown pass to Ty Robbins to send us into the half tied at 17-17.

On the Redskins’ second drive after the half, quarterback Ben Berry threw an ill-advised pass over the middle, and strong safety Timothy Whalen was there to make the pick. Eighteen yards later, Whalen was dragged down at the Washington 9 yard line.

Following a 7-yard pass to Artie Furman on first down, Alston did his best Berg impression by taking the ball into the end zone himself on a draw. For the first time all game, we led, 24-17.

Towards the end of the third quarter, Richey kicked a 49-yarder to draw the Redskins back to within 4 points of us, 24-20.

Most of the fourth quarter saw a defensive struggle, with neither offense doing very much. A bad punt from deep in Redskin territory set us up on the Redskin 44, and from there, Alston was able to guide the offense toward the Redskins goal line, eventually hitting Earl Thornton for a touchdown from 15 yards out. The fans roared once again for Thornton, whose second touchdown of the game put us up 31-20 with just over 4 minutes remaining.

The Redskins’ hopes of a comeback vanished on the fourth play of their ensuing drive, as SOLB Kurt Robertson knocked the ball loose from Redskin QB Ben Berry and defensive end Frankie Farley fell on it at our 45. A nine-yard Chuck Farley touchdown catch with 1:40 left in the game ended the scoring, and gave us a 38-20 margin of victory over our divisional foe. Having swept the Redskins for the season, we joyfully climbed back into second place in the NFC East.

Key Performers:

Dana Alston rewarded our faith in him as backup QB by completing 25 of 34 passes for 269 yards, 4 TDs, and 1 interception. He also had 1 rushing TD. This was more than enough to get him the Game MVP award.

Earl Thornton had himself quite a comeback party, catching 6 balls for 78 yards and 2 scores.

Ty Robbins caught 5 passes for 88 yards and 1 TD.

Chuck Farley made 5 grabs for 40 yards and a score to help silence his critics.

============================================
Indianapolis (4-4) at Dallas (5-3)

The Cowboys kept themselves mired in fourth place by losing 27-16 to Dexter McNeil and the Colts. Who knows -- maybe that McNeil fella isn’t such a bad guy after all…

Not too shabby!

I figured I might as well go back to the dynasty that people enjoy more if I was going to spend a lot of time writing a dynasty report.

Week 11

Nebraska (2-7) at Gatesville (6-3)
============================================

Attendance:
40,000 tickets were sold, but only 36,100 showed up for the game. I guess the other 3,900 must've stayed home to eat paint chips or something...

The Game:

The Nebraska Blizzards, who we clobbered 50-6 back in Week 3, drew to within a field goal at 10-7 in the third quarter, thanks to a 9-yard Darrin Roberts touchdown reception, but Lonnie Ruiter’s 80-yard touchdown run on the first play of our ensuing possession broke their backs, and we cruised to a 17-7 victory with our star quarterback still watching from the sidelines with a bum knee.

Key Performers:

Free safety Dave Sanders caught the Game MVP award with 9 tackles, 3 assists, and 1 interception.

Left cornerback Joel Harden outdid Sanders with 2 interceptions to go along with a tackle and an assist.

Lonnie Ruiter ran the ball 15 times for 125 yards and 1 TD.

Dana Alston turned in a workman-like performance by completing 18 of 27 passes for 205 yards and 1 TD, but Alston threw 2 interceptions as well.

New Injuries:

Aging receiver Earl Thornton was bitten by the injury bug once again, as he sustained a broken nose during the game.

Up-and-coming young receiver Artie Furman suffered a stretched knee ligament, and will need 3-5 weeks to recover.

============================================
Arizona (7-2) at Dallas (5-4)

In true Cowboys fashion, Jerry Jones’ team inadvertently did us a favor by beating the Cardinals 30-20, since Arizona’s loss moved us into first place in the NFC East, also pushing us into second place in the NFC overall. The always-tough Tampa Bay squad remains the class of the NFC with a 9-1 record.

I refuse to believe that these updates are real. What I will believe is that some prankster somehow logged in as Kodos, then provided fake results with our beloved Silicon Pirates. Not cool.

Week 12

Des Moines (8-2) at Gatesville (7-3)
============================================

Attendance:
44,700 bought tickets, and this time out, only 800 found better options.

Injury Update:

In a boost to the offense, Berg returned as the starter for our game against the Timber Wolves.

Ty Robbins started at flanker in place of the injured Artie Furman (stretched knee ligament).

The Game:

Thanks to a Chuck Farley touchdown catch and 2 Hidalgo field goals, we finished the first half of the game with a 13-3 lead over the AFC East-leading Des Moines Timber Wolves.

Mel Fulcher’s 12-yard touchdown pass to J.T. Glover early in the second half made things interesting, but 5 minutes later, Ralph Randle’s 59-yard touchdown on a bomb from Berg once again made it a two-score game, 20-10.

Chuck Farley’s second touchdown of the day made it 26-10 with 13 minutes left in the fourth quarter, but Hidalgo botched the extra point to keep Des Moines within 2 touchdowns of us.

Mel Fulcher’s 39-yard touchdown strike to Jeremy Coons with 8:35 brought them to within 10 points, but Fulcher’s pass on the two-point conversion attempt was knocked down by Sam Viola, keeping it a two-score advantage for us, 26-16.

Following a punt by each team, the Timber Wolves made their way to our 21 with 1:24 left in the game. On first-and-10, Fulcher dropped back to pass, but defensive end Frankie Farley was there to hit him from his blind side and knock the ball out. Fellow DE Will Rison promptly fell on it at our 27, and the ball was ours once again.

Following a 12-yard pass to Chuck Farley on first down, Berg found Ty Robbins on a fly pattern that went all the way for a 61-yard touchdown that sealed our 33-16 victory.

Key Performers:

Berg won the Game MVP and Offensive Player of the Week honors by completing 22 of 31 attempts for 358 yards, 4 TDs, and 1 interception. He also ran 7 times for 30 yards.

Chuck Farley gave his loyal fans something to grin about, as he pulled in 9 passes for 120 yards and 2 TDs.

Ralph Randle also fared quite well, catching 6 balls for 133 yards and a TD.

============================================
Dallas (6-4) at Washington (7-3)

The Redskins blanked the Cowboys 24-0 to drop the ‘Boys to 6-5.

Tampa Bay (9-1) at Chicago (6-4)

In a game whose outcome sent shockwaves throughout the league, a very average Bears team crushed the Buccaneers 42-14. The Buccaneer loss dropped them to 9-2, just one game ahead of your Silicon Pirates at 8-3. Oh, did I mention that we play the Bucs in Tampa in Week 16? Doesn’t it seem like it always comes down to us and them in the end?

FRANKIE Farley ??? Get outta here, you imposter !!!

I think he should be cut immediately, there is only room for one Farley on this roster, and Frankie is just not gonna cut it...

There can only be one : CHUCK U FARLEY.

Wow! It's back.

Go Gatesville!

Dang. Sorry 'bout the holdup. The IHOF Draft and Free Agency has been dominating my free time. A new writeup will be forthcoming soon.
