I don't pray much, so I figure God will listen the few times when I do. I'll be sending a few up his way for you and yours, and especially your mother. What a tragic thing to be a part of. I'm so very sorry that this happened, and I wish there was something more that I could do than to merely offer a prayer and a virtual shoulder to cry on.

I'm getting really damn sick of all the violence in this world. The last three years have been the worst for the world and me personally. No, I haven't been attacked, but I'm so damn sick of people I know or people close to me know being taken down prematurely in such senseless ways. I am truly sorry for digamma's loss and have a pretty fair idea what he's going through.

Just got back from prayer vigil.

This is the most awful thing I've dealt with in almost 15 years of full-time ministry. I talked with several pastors and youth workers today, and none of them had ever dealt with a double-murder, double-funeral situation.

I can't imagine what they're going through. I just can't imagine.

A few have asked about flowers/etc. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to a memorial scholarship fund. Details on that should be out by the end of the week.

I can't even begin to express my anger at someone who would break into a home and cause so much harm. His death is by no means a satisfactory conclusion. Digamma and family, please accept my condolences. No one should have to go through this.

They've ID'ed the suspect. His mother shot a pastor on a Sunday morning as he was preparing to deliver his sermon just a few months ago.

That is bizarre. He never had been in trouble before (save a single loitering arrest aka. being black in a white neighborhood after dark). This smacks of sucide by police.

Huh !?!?!

He breaks into two houses, he guns down two people, he shoots the police dog, and that somehow equals suicide-by-police?

Again ... Huh?!

What do you think the cops did, shoot the dog themselves?

Jon:

When I've heard the term "suicide-by-police", it simply means that the guy was trying to get the police to kill him, rather than doing it himself.

As the investigation continues, we may hear differently, but that explanation makes as much sense as anything else in this case.

The mood at the school is much better today. They're keeping the kids in class today for the most part. Halls were almost completely clear during class time. I didn't feel the need to stick around after lunch periods were done.

I had it in an entirely different context than that (as you have gathered).

No, but shooting the dog got him killed, didn't it? He wasn't violent at all at the first house, and killed the two that were trying to capture him without lethal violence (and shot the dog that would fall in that catagory, too). A guy with no real priors suddenly going on a rampage, on top of the comment he told the first people ("I'll return your car or you'll find it close by") suggest he didn't intend to run very far. I'm just guessing, but many parts adds up to that.

GrantDawg -

It seems that we're working with two entirely different meanings for that phrase. I now believe I misunderstood you completely.

I apologize to you & FOFC for the outburst, the last thing I meant to do was derail or dishonor this thread in any way.
