Despite roads still being pretty crappy, I think Fairfax County gov will be open tomorrow, meaning I'll end up at work. C'est la vie. Meanwhile, check out this wicked cool snow pack melting on my deck:

I worked from home yesterday and spent about an hour digging snow and ice from around my car. I have to park on the street, so I figured that as long as I dug a couple of feet around my car, I'd be able to pull into the street in the morning and I'd be fine. Well, leave it to the Louisiana boy. I apparently did a horrible job with it because I had to spend another hour and a half this morning getting out. By the time I finally got out, it wasn't worth the 30-mile drive to work, so I'm working from home again. And now we've got another 6-14 inches of snow coming.

Glorious.

Maybe I can just die now.

Actually, I just checked and my video wasn't even time lapsed. It was snowing so hard back during that blizzard in '77 that it covered a real, live brown bear in just under 30 seconds.

Pffft! To George's video above. A dusting.

Kindest Regards,

Your friends in Buffalo and Syracuse

Looks like my flight tomorrow night to D.C. is cancelled. I don't think there's any way I can get there by Friday AM, where my girlfriend has a foreign service oral assessment scheduled. Hopefully they have some kind of backup plan for that.

Damn, I was excited to check out D.C. I've always been down on that city (even though I've only been there once), but after researching/preparing for this trip, I was pretty fired up. There's a lot going on there. It's like, the capital of the whole country or something.

I am going to take a guess that Arkansas doesn't exactly have a massive amount of snow removal equipment. I don't care where you live, 6 inches without any type of removal is quite a bit.

Fine, I can sort of give them a break, even if I think six inches of snow is baby stuff...but if you live even in the proximity of an area that gets snow you should have some kind of contingency plan..Your friendly neigborhood gub'mint blows through enough pork that they should have skimmed off the 11 fucking bucks to buy a snow fucking shovel at the local Home Depot !

My pre-K daughter, upon hearing that school was cancelled tomorrow: "aww noo!"

I, on the other hand, am already drawing up plans for a Snowlarium addition onto the snowfort started during last week's storm.

Yep. A foot. Heh...that's nothing.

I'm just lucky I work like...2 miles from home. Already in the office with the extreme weather gear ready to hike home later.

Pretty Impressive - even for the '77 blizzardites.

D.C. Has 2nd Highest Snowfall of Any U.S. City This Season - DCist

(for those that don't want to click, DC has the 2nd highest snow total thus far this year. They have 63.5 inches - normally they have 13.4 at this point - Syracuse is #1 - 73.7 with normally 75.3 at this point. Oh, and Buffalo 61.3 with normally 68.5)

I can't imagine what the airline/travel companies' support staff goes through at times like this. The nice lady I talked to on the phone just now sounded like she was going to off herself.....but I got everything refunded.
