VCU tied at 49-49 13:00 left and

BYU tied 42-42 at the half against defending champs the Cuse.

SIU couldn't make it. Good last chance, but no dice. My bracket now resembles a wedge of Swiss cheese.

I had Bama. I'm worried over the Cuse game (although I have them getting knocked out next round anywa), and certainly the Wake game... i have them losing to st Joes in the regional.

Actually, IMO, the only heartbreaking moment of the tournament is when the buzzer goes off to end the championship game. At least this year, since my alma mater didn't make the field.

Oops. BYU's center Araujo (who has been a big thorn in the side of Syracuse all game) just got his fourth foul with 14 minutes left. Stupid move by BYU to leave him out there, as he'd just picked up his third like 30 seconds before.

From what I've seen of Liberty, it wouldn't have helped them all that much if they'd bound and gagged Jameer.

The good news is that there's gonna be a hole in just about everybody's bracket if VCU hangs on.

Speaking of poor coaching, how could VCU not know they needed to foul there? They just wasted about 20 precious seconds, and all but killed any chance they had of tying the game.

Yep. Apparently taking a cue from UTEP.

Great start to the tourney, six of the eight games were pretty interesting. Even UTSA managed to keep it close with Stanford for a few minutes Hopefully tonights games will be just as good. I am especially looking forward to Michigan State/Nevada and DePaul/Dayton. I think the Texas/Princeton game could be interesting, as well.

For as close as all of the games have been, the only game where I really felt the underdog had a legit shot of winning was UTEP (not including 8-9 games). Sure, Manhattan pulled the upset, but it was the worst kept secret all week. It was the pick that even the conservative bracket makers had. In the second half, BYU was in it, but not really. You knew Syracuse could just bang it underneath on them once they got in all the foul trouble. VCU kept Wake close, but it just didn't seem like they were ever going to win. Texas-Princeton was a 10 point game most of the second half. Even among the 8-9s, that Charlotte game was close for them but Texas Tech was always in control. The underdogs just never felt like they were in it. Most years, you can feel when that higher seed is in trouble, and only the Maryland game smacked of that feel.

61% of America picked Florida to win. America picked 2 upsets: Southern Illinois and Western Michigan.

Make that 1 upset, I didn't notice Southern Illinois was a 9, I don't consider that an upset.

Go read all the regional reviews by ESPN, CNNSI, CBS, TSN, and any other outlet of so-called experts (I say that just because the NCAA tourney is so hard to pick). You have to pick a 12 over a 5 and a few other upsets. You know that by the end of the weekend, there will have been some upsets: picking those is the challenge. If you just fill out your brackets with all the top seeds, why do you even bother playing in pools. You won't win and you won't even have fun.

Remember. ESPN poll. Overwhelmining masses of stupid people. Even 40% of them picked that 12 over a 5.

I feel stupid in that I knew Florida was headed home early . I just thought that Manhattan was still not good enough to take them.

The truly bad thing is that I didn't even look at Florida's second round opponent. I just picked Florida to lose to anyone that got that far.

You know, if Dayton and DePaul just want to keep playing overtimes all night, I'd be fine with that.

Yep. Even better than a first round NCAA Tournament game is a double overtime first round tournament game.

I need a big shot here from Dayton. There haven't been too many "big shots" today. And all of them so far today have been made by the teams leading to put teams away, "the stake in the heart". I want the "I can't believe he just made that shot to tie the game!"

Hmm. I was thinking Jeff Hornacek, or Larry Bird myself. Yeah, that guy isn't even drawing iron hitting those free throws.

Yeah, actually Hornacek would be a better comparison. I was thinking Stockton after seeing him in the Zags game.

I was just remembering those insanely good games he had hitting free throws with the Suns, and later the Jazz. He was the best pure shooter I've ever seen.

Dayton crushed my spirit with that game.

I've been a lifelong Dayton fan, and will continue to be, but that was a hard loss to take. Unbelievably harder still to watch that 2nd OT. Ugh.
