March 14th trade deadline-End of regular season

We really tried hard to get Adam deadmarsh from La, but in the end, the asking price was just too high…..We were not gonna part with and NHL caliber defenseman, or send them Spicer, Michael Deadmarsh, Aki Seitsonen, or Andrei Rokovsky…so a deal couldn’t be done…….

Heres what was done……

Dallas Stars claimed John Madden, who had been with Minnesota Wild, off waivers.

Game 1: Wade Belak, who replaced Kyle Wellwood is out for 2 weeks, so Andrei Rosovsky will play…..Lukas Krajicek gets the first goal of the series…..Owen Nolan ties it in the 2nd…...Michael Deadmarsh gets his first NHL to give us the lead with 10 mins left…Zach Parise adds the insurance….Final: 3-1 Tor

Game 2: Eric Lindros gives us a 1-0 lead after 1….Matt Cullen ties it after 2…..Nathan Horton scores twice in the 3rd….Final: 3-1 Fla

Game 3: Former Leaf Chad Kilger opens the scoring….Jokinen makes it 2-0….Dougy Weight gets us to within 1 late in the 2nd…..Craig Johnson makes it 3-1…im getting worried….John Doherty makes It a 1 goal game with 1:35 left….Final: 3-2 Fla

Game 4: No scoring in the 1st…..Huselius gets one in the 2nd…time to start playing desperate hockey….Huselius scores again…..Lindros gets us back in the game…2-1, with 12 mins left…..we can’t score on a late powerplay…Final: 2-1 Fla

I think we took these guys way too lightly….time to step it up….

Game 5: No scoring in the 1st….Lindros gets the only goal of the 2nd…..Virosztek ties it with 11 mins left……OT…..Hope we don’t blow it…..Im not liking the way we are playing in OT…Horton wins it….we suck….Final: 2-1 Fla in OT

FLORIDA WINS SERIES 4-1

Very disappointing…..thought we had it this year….Maybe we need some new blood…..

Nashville beat Calgary in 5…stay tunded for the worst final in years……

What's that sound...the sound of 98% of hockey fans turning off the lowest rated Stanley Cup final in history.

Still a great dynasty thread, but Johnny, this alternate future NHL you've created is horrible. The Wings out of the play-offs and a finals between Florida and Nashville? This is horrible...

2007-08 wrap-up

Awards:
Jack Adams award- Pat Quinn, Tor
Calder- Dmitry Fedorov, Bos
King Clancy- Mattias Sundell, Cal
Hart, Sergei Samsonov, Mon
Jennings- Mikael Tellqvist, Tor
Lady Byng- Dainius Zubrus, Dal
Masterton- Daniel Tjarnqvist, Atl
Norris- Wes O’Neill, Ana
Rocket Richard- Sergei Samsonov, Mon
Art Ross- Sergei Samsonov, Mon
Selke, Ilya Kovalchuk, Atl (UNBELIEVABLE, THE GAME MUST BE FLAWED)
Conn Smythe- Anthony Stewart, Fla
Vezina- Mikael Tellqvist, Tor

No Leafs were picked to be part of either AHL, or NHL all-star teams….I guess Tellqvist winning the Vezina, and Jennings, and having the lowest gaa ive ever seen isn’t good enough

Time for the 2008 entry draft from Miami
1. LA Kings- Michael Svikander
2. Dallas Stars- Joel Burton
3. Tampa Bay Lightning- Paul Campbell

Leafs picks:
29th- Walter Kruse 4*, enforcer
47th- Kabok Nasenko 4*, all-around offensive player
59th- Douglas Hornsby 5*, offensive defenseman
89th- Seth Dryer 4*, 2 way forward
124th- Adrian Black, 3* playmaker

Black is closest to the NHL, he seems well rounded all ready….

Off-season part 2

We pick up the options on Owen Nolan, Eric Lindros, and Kyle Wellwood’s contract

Doug Weight has retired from the Toronto Maple Leafs

Other notable retirees: Teemu Selanee, Joe Sakic, Tony Amonte, Mike Modano, Sergei Fedorov, Nik Lidstrom, Nicky Khabibulin…..

Philadelphia Flyers signed UFA Sandis Ozolinsh to a 2 year deal
St. Louis Blues signed UFA Kevin Weekes to a 3 year deal
Philadelphia Flyers signed UFA Adrian Aucoin to a 2 year deal

Ive got a tough decision to make….Greg Spicer had 10 points in the preseason….Michael Deadmarsh had 9……I only want to keep one of these guys with the big club…..decisions, decisions……

Toronto Maple Leafs claimed Danny Markov, who had been with Philadelphia Flyers, in waiverdraft.

Welcome home Danny, Im sure glad to have you back…..

2008-09 Toronto Maple Leafs

Center
Eric Lindros- had a down year, but will center Antropov and Poni
Zach Parise- looking for a breakout season
Kyle Wellwood- coming back from a devastating injury soon
Jamie Lundmark- turning into a solid #2/3 center
PM Boucard- trying to trade him

Wings
Nik Antropov- had that elusive breakout year
Alexi Ponikarovsky- had his best season
Owen Nolan- lost a little, still all heart
Jason Williams- Seems to be able to consistently score around 20
Darcy Tucker- Injuries have taken a toll
Wade Belak- Id like to think he’s the heavyweight champ of the NHL
Greg Spicer- Made the team, will be given a chance to shine
Michael Deadmarsh- Also made team, expecting big things

Defense
Bryan McCabe- has not had a good offensive year in a while
Chris Pronger- ditto
Carlo Colaiacovo- keeps getting better
John Doherty- great rookie year
Mike Card- outplayed Brendan Bell, played well in the playoffs
Brendan Bell- will play as 7th dman
Danny Markov- glad to have this warrior back
Karel Pilar- getting up there in age

Goalie
Mikael Tellqvist- best goalie in NHL last year
Sebastian Centomo- might be too pricy to be backup soon

Columbus Blue Jackets signed UFA Todd Marchant to a 1 year deal
New Jersey Devils signed UFA Valeri Bure to a 4 year deal
New York Rangers signed UFA Michael Nylander to a 2 year deal

No Leafs are rated in the top 10 of their positions……

04-10-2008 Jamie Lundmark gets 3 assists in a solid 3-1 season opening win over Ottawa

7-10-2008 Todd Bertuzzi injured.
Todd Bertuzzi (VAN) suffered thigh injury during the game in an incident with Alexei Semenov (EDM). He is expected to be sidelined for a couple of months. I just kind of rolled over his back and I couldn't get my arm down to brace myself, so I landed awkwardly, he said

Take that prick……

11-1-2008 Kyle Wellwood is ready to return, he will take his old place in the lineup back….4th line center…..

26 10-2008 Tough start for Alexi Ponikarovsky, the future captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs……He got his 1st point of the year today, in a 3-1 win over Washington….at least he plays amazing defense……

Toronto Maple Leafs traded Brad Leeb and Tyson Marsh to Washington Capitals for Tom DiPietro

Minor deal….Dipietro, just 18 is already better then Marsh….

4-11-2008 Player of the week: Nik Antropov (L)
NHL has awarded Nik Antropov (L) of Toronto Maple Leafs as Player Of The Week He registered 4 goals and 3 assists for 7 points in 4 games last week. He also had 1 game winning goal.

Minnesota Wild claimed Aaron Miller(NYR) off waivers.

28-11-2008 St. Johns has been struggling this year….we took Deadmarsh, and Spicer from them, so with only 3 offensive players there, I thought I should sign some help….enter Alexi Kovalev…..we got lots of money….so I’m gonna pay him 7.5 mil to play on the rock…..

Kovalev gets 3 points in his St. Johns debut….

29-11-2008 Damn, I forgot he had to clear waivers….which he didn’t….Buffalo claimed him….those bums….there on my enemy list…..Ill try again….Im gonna offer Jagr 14 mil….noone will claim him now…..hopefully….

We are 14-8-1-1…for 30 points…5th in the east

Pay no attention to him, he's just trying to over compensate for his growing respect and love for the Wings. He doth protest too much!

I would love a Leafs/Wings final...but that will probably never happen, because it would be too good....Im still waiting for Curtis to play in Toronto, so we can boo him.....

Dec 1- Feb 1 2009

We sign Jagr, try to send him down, and Columbus claims him….this bright idea of mine to boost scoring aint gonna work…..at least Jagr and Kovalev are back in the league….

12-12-2008 Toronto Maple Leafs trade
Toronto Maple Leafs traded Pierre-Marc Bouchard to Vancouver Canucks for Scott Hannan

Hannan is having a good year….he’s probably money for about 40 points a year….but wont play regularly….a depth guy….Im gonna try to trade Brendan Bell now….

16-12-2008 With the trade of Bouchard….we needed some depth, so I brought back Steve Rucchin…..He signed a 1 year deal, and will basically fill in where needed……

1-1-2009 Something newsworthy is gonna happen soon, I can feel it……

1-1-2009 Rookie of the month: Greg Spicer (L)
NHL has awarded Greg Spicer (L) of Toronto Maple Leafs as Rookie Of The Month He registered 5 goals and 9 assists for 14 points in 14 games last month. He also had 1 game winning goal.

See….

2-1-2009 Toronto Maple Leafs trade
Toronto Maple Leafs traded Brendan Witt, Markus Seikola and TOR's round 1 pick in 2009 to Dallas Stars for Daniel Oates and DAL's round 1 pick in 2009

Witt is a NHL defensman, and he wasn’t playing…with Hannan on board, this move was easy to make…..

2-1-2009 Toronto Maple Leafs players selected to World Junior Championships
World Junior Championships (U-20) in icehockey are about to start in Austria. The following players from Toronto Maple Leafs organization have been selected to represent their countries:
-Riku Hernesniemi (FIN)
-Kabok Nasenko (RUS)
-Gustav Prager (CZE)
-Devan Janke (CAN)

5-1-2009 Eric Lindros reaches a milestone !
Eric Lindros scored the 1100th point of his career in tonight's game against the Washington Capitals on a goal by Alexei Ponikarovsky. There's no 'I' in team and we have to get everyone playing the same system. It's not enough to just play a solid 20 or 40 minutes of hockey - you have to play 60. Hey, you know what? I forgot the question, he said as camera flashes went off..

13-1-2009 Eric Lindros injured.
Eric Lindros (TOR) suffered head injury during the game in an incident with Richard Scott (NYR). He is expected to be sidelined for at least four months. As long as the team wins, I don't care about my injury. I just wish I could be out there with the guys, he commented to the press.

We in trouble…..Alex Steen gets the call to replace the big E….

23-1-2009 Toronto Maple Leafs trade
Toronto Maple Leafs traded Brendan Bell to Dallas Stars for Viljami Paatelainen

Another trade with Dallas….they are proving to be easy to deal with….Paatelainen is 20, and is improving rapidly….He will be in St. Johns….but will provide some offense on the rock….with Markov back….we didn’t need Bell…I liked Mike Card better….so Card played….but Bell should play well in Dallas…he did play well here….

OK…Im just noticing we cant score….for some reason….we can’t get more then 3 in any game….we are very lucky that our defense is the best in the league…..stop laughing…..the Leafs defense is the best in the league…..we have allowed the fewest amount of goals so far……

26-1-2009 We beat Buffalo 1-0….I guess defense does win hockey games…..I just like to score 6 goals a game though……

We are 31-16-1-5-4, for 67 points…good for 2nd in the east….

Feb 1- to trade deadline

3-2-2009 Celebration time…we scored 4 goals…sure one was in a empty net….but it counts all the same

Edmonton Oilers claimed Jozef Stumpel(BUF) off waivers.

Forgot to mention 2 things….#1 Canada won the world juniors over USA….Slovakia took the bronze…and no Leafs made the all-star team…not even Mikael Tellqvist…which is BS….so I will boycott the event…and this is the last you will hear of it tell next year…..

21-2-2009 Owen Nolan reaches a milestone !
Owen Nolan scored the 1000th point of his career in tonight's game against the Vancouver Canucks on a goal by Nik Antropov. 1000 points is nice and all, but I'd trade that milestone for a Stanley Cup any day, he said to the press..

7-3-2009 Ive really been shaking up my lines a lot to try to find more offense…..Ive moved Antropov back to center….tried Ruchinn on the first line……tried Parise all over the place….but I can’t get any….maybe I should just be happy we are winning….maybe we are too young…Spicer, and Deadmarsh will be great when they get older……but, I want to score now….

Trade Deadline deals….

Dallas Stars traded center Artem Chernov, defenseman Henrik Tallinder and center Sergei Beloi to Vancouver Canucks for right wing Todd Bertuzzi

Why would Dallas take on this piece of garbage….I know one of you guys wont mind this deal….

Anaheim Mighty Ducks traded center Bastien Noiseux and right wing Linus Persson to Colorado Avalanche for center Zdeno Hejduk

Detroit Red Wings traded right wing Stefan Froemml and defenseman Danny Groulx to Buffalo Sabres for left wing Lee Sylvester

Ottawa Senators traded left wing Will Lawless, defenseman Dmitri Kosmachev and left wing Kori Davison to Tampa Bay Lightning for center Daniel Briere and TB 4th round pick in 2010 draft

Dallas Stars traded defenseman John Erskine, center Ilya Solarev and center Guillaume Moreau to Vancouver Canucks for left wing Riku Hahl

San Jose Sharks traded defenseman Doug Murray, center Tomas Plihal and defenseman Frantisek Baha to Phoenix Coyotes for right wing Mike Cammalleri

****LEAF TRADE*****

14-3-2009 Toronto Maple Leafs trade
Toronto Maple Leafs traded Jordin Tootoo and Kyle Wellwood to Columbus Blue Jackets for Todd Marchant

Hopefully, Marchant’s 52 points will help in my search to find this team some offense….

VAN-MTL trade
Vancouver Canucks traded right wing Tom Manies, defenseman Petr Buzek and right wing Sergei Topol to Montreal Canadiens for right wing Andrei Kostitsyn and MTL 4th round pick in 2010 draft

Florida Panthers traded defenseman Christian Umstaedter to Pittsburgh Penguins for left wing Colby Armstrong and PIT 4th round pick in 2009 draft

Colorado Avalanche traded defenseman Aki Berg and defenseman Lars Larsson to Carolina Hurricanes for right wing Chuck Kobasew

We are currently 39-23-1-6, with 85 points….good for 3rd in the east

I've noticed this too. I picked up DiPetro and in his second season with me he won the Hart, Vezina, and Jennings, and third season he won the Vezina and Jennings again, yet was never good enough for the all star teams? Some kind of bias against the players goaltenders I think.

Marchant is 35, and is a free agent...he's asking for 3.5 mil....which im probably not gonna give him....At least Dallas is trying to win....though they arent.....they have 65 points, in 75 games so far....

March 14th- to end of regular season

17-3-2009 Player of the week: Todd Bertuzzi (R)
NHL has awarded Todd Bertuzzi (R) of Dallas Stars as Player Of The Week He registered 4 goals and 2 assists for 6 points in 3 games last week. He also had 2 game winning goals.

He shouldn’t be allowed to win this award….

4-4-2009 Todd Marchant reaches career high !
Todd Marchant marked a new career high in points with 61 after assisting in tonights game against Buffalo Sabres on a goal by Greg Spicer. I hope this will get me in Don Cherry's good books, was his only comment for the media..

Todd is fitting in quite well so far…..

7-4-2009 Wade Belak speaks up.
Wade Belak is disappointed in the team tactics after having not played in the last five games. He wants more icetime.

He wont shut up…getting annoying

#2 vs. #7
Calgary is a team on the rise....

#3 vs. #6

1st round of the playoffs

first…more bad news for the Stars…..8-4-2009 League suspends Colin White
The league board has suspended Dallas Stars player Colin White for 11 games for injuring Jason Blake of San Jose Sharks.

Pretty much kicking them while they are down…..that will be served next season

Goalie Matchup: Michael Tellqvist(39-22-1-3, 2.10gaa, .902sp) vs. Robert Esche(26-25-1-10, 2.68gaa, .904sp)

Flyers are predicted to upset us in 7…..

Game 1: Rucchin scores the only goal of the first….im glad I signed him…he’s been very useful sense Lindros got hurt…..Jonas Johansson ties it….but Bryan McCabe gives us a 2-1 lead after 2…..we pour it on in the third and bury them…..Final: 6-2 Tor

Game 2: Antropov and Nolan score as we outshoot Philly 17-1 in the 1st…..Poni makes it 3-0 after 2….Philly cuts the lead to 1 in the third….but Pronger slides the pick in the empty net to seal it…..Final: 4-2 Tor

Game 3: Another 2-0 lead after 1…this time….Colaiacovo and Nolan score…..Handzus gets Philly on the board….but Antropov gets 2 in the period….Parise and Rucchin cap the blow out….this is too easy…..Final: 6-1 Tor

Game 4: Jason Williams has the only goal of the 1st….Marchants 1st his the only tally in the second…..Tucker finishes the job….Final: 3-1 Tor

TORONTO WINS SERIES 4-0

Last 2 playoff series between us have been too easy…..we have won 8 straight against Philly in the playoffs…..

So much for being 1st….NJ sweeps Pittsburgh…and the defending champs…Florida, sweep Atlanta…..Minnesota, Calgary, and Colorado all take care of business in 5….Edmonton wins in 7 over Chicago…..and Boston survives a 7 game battle with the Habs……

No Leaf prospect will compete in the 2009 World Championships being held in Latvia….

2nd round Matchups:
Toronto vs. New Jersey
Florida vs. Boston
Calgary vs. Minnesota
Colorado vs. Edmonton

***The only really bad matchup that could take place in the Cup would be Minnesota vs. Florida….so hopefully, we wont see a repeat of last years awful cup final…..

Hopefully, Marchant’s 52 points will help in my search to find this team some offense….

If the Jackets ever, ever, ever picked up Tootoo, I would trade in my jerseys and boycott the games. Tootoo is the most worthless player I've ever seen, a little punk who hides behind his shield, and who the Nashville fans believe wins every single fight he gets into.

Alrighty, off my soapbox now, great job with your dynasty, I really like reading it, and watching a capable GM do something with Toronto, unlike in my dynasty.

And by the way, if you get a chance, can you give me a little update on the Jackets, like who their top players are? Thanks!!

The only reason I like Jordan Tootoo is because of the way he played during the world juniors last year....he was a force....I haven't really seen him play in the NHL as Nashville doesn't get much attention in Toronto.....

Here are your Columbus Blue Jackets....

Mike Smith is the GM....Craig Mactavish is the head coach
Rick Nash holds the records for:
goals....35
assists..45
points...73
Top Prospect: Dave Reid, 20 years old.....taken 19th overall in 200....scored 259 goals in 3 years with Swift Current

Current scoring leaders and goalies

The young talent is there...ofcourse Jagr is a free agent....and with his performance this year....he wont be retiring...so if they can get him for the whole season.....who knows, they could make some noise next year....

Yeah, I think its more of how the Nashville fans think that he wins every fight that he gets in to that drives me crazy, which is probably right, because he runs away from any fighters that are halfway decent. David Ling, one of our guys who gets called up from Syracuse (I think b/c of the whole PEI [Prince Edward Island] group in Columbus, but that's another story) always fights guys a lot bigger than he is, which means he doesn't win a lot, but he doesn't run scared. I guess the best thing I've seen is a fan of ours that brought a ballerina tutu to the game and put "Tootoo" on the back.

Well, enough of that rant again, thanks for the quick response!

Toronto Maple Leafs celebrate Stanley Cup

The Stanley Cup Champions Toronto Maple Leafs were celebrated in their hometown with grand festivities today. The Stanley Cup was driven through the town in a parade and the fans were chanting the team's name every time captain Owen Nolan lifted the Cup above his head.

The mayor of the town greeted the players on a stage with the media surrounding them as masses of loyal Toronto Maple Leafs fans chanted the names of Todd Marchant and Mikael Tellqvist.

We all worked hard for this and now it's time to party, said the smiling Owen Nolan while making his way through the fans.

And happy belated birthday, btw!

I think you might meet some southern hockey fans one of these days. They errr...we really do exist, and have been known to make our way up north once in a while!

Thanks Sachmo, ever see a game at Maple Leaf gardens, cuz that was an experience.....you southern fans unfortunatly wont ever get a chance to enjoy a game in a place like that since all the original buildings are gone.....btw, Im rooting for Dallas over Colorado, though it don't look to good right now

NHL Awards:
Jack Adams- Brian Sutter, Cal
Calder Trophy- Greg Spicer, Tor
King Clancy- Rostislav Olesz
Hart- Paul Kariya, Cal
Jennings- Michael Tellqvist, Tor
Lady Byng- Boyd Devereaux, Cal
Masterton- Serge Aubin, Atl
Norris- Ron Hainsey, Mon
Rocket Richard- Markus Naslund, Van
Art Ross- Paul Kariya, Cal
Selke- Matt Bradley, Pit
Conn Smythe- Todd Marchat, Tor….Pretty nice trade deadline pickup….guess I have to resign him now…..
Vezina- Mikael Tellqvist, Tor
STANLEY CUP- TORONTO

We resigned Todd Marchant right after the parade….He did win the Conn Smythe, so I felt I owed him…he signed a 1-year deal for 3.25mil….

17-6-2009 NHL all-star teams were announced….and for some reason….The 2-time defending Vezina, and Jennings winner, Mikael Tellqvist wasn’t on the 1st or 2nd team…..how can anyone take these teams seriously…..Greg Spicer was a 1st team, all-rookie team winger….Deadmarsh was 2nd team…..

NHL DRAFT
Being held this year in the home of the Stanley Cup Champs…Toronto, Ontario…

#1- Buffalo Sabres select Ron Litwak
#2- Detroit Red Wings select George Mayer
#3- Washington Capitals select Darby Peterson

Leaf picks…
#7 (Dallas trade)- Erik Corson 5*, all around offensive player
#57- Murray Dunn 4*, stay at home defenseman
#87- Matt Sampson 4*, all around offensive player
#117- Sergei Krasnov 4*, physical dman
#126- Pielgrzym Nwiciutie- If this guy ever makes it, its gonna be a nightmare continuing the dynasty….
#127- Kjril Shanen, 4*, all around offensive player
#147- Mark Vyrubov 4*, could be an absolute steal…he’s 6’6, and already a 65 in defense…

Very happy with the lower end of this draft….which will help us as im trying to rebuild the system….theres pretty much nothing left now other then Rusovsky, as Seitsonsen seems like a bust

Never been to Canada...but there is time. I have a buddy who lives in Rochester, so when I go to visit him, I'm sure I'll be making my first trip to Canada, and you can bet I'm going to see a game.

Offeseason part 2

Steve Rucchin retired….went out a champ….but has decided to become a scout…guess Ill hire him…..Some other interesting career changes…Markus Naslund, who I accidently let retire, will become a general manager, as will Sami Kapanen

Eric Lindros, and Chris Pronger both want to test the market, so I will have to wait to see if I can resign these guys…and I want to…badly…..

28-6-2009 DET-WSH trade
Detroit Red Wings traded defenseman Jiri Fischer, right wing Kuisma Jallinoja, goaltender Randy Vafiadis and defenseman Tommy Deadmarsh to Washington Capitals for center Scott Gomez

Alexi Yashin, Ziggy Palfy, Naslund, Kapenen, and Anson Carter all call it a career….

Carlo Colaiacovo thinks we should consider him a franshise player….well, he probably isn’t that good, but why upset him…..

St. Louis Blues signed UFA Cory Stillman to a 2 year deal
Detroit Red Wings signed UFA P.J. Axelsson to a 2 year deal

4-9-2009 Patrick Lalime agrees on a contract with Calgary Flames.
Patrick Lalime has signed a $10,000,000 per year, 2 year deal with the Calgary Flames. Detailed financial terms of the deal were not announced.

Detroit Red Wings signed UFA Dick Tärnström to a 4 year deal

5-9-2009 Pavel Kubina agrees on a contract with Philadelphia Flyers.
Pavel Kubina has signed a $4,500,000 per year, 2 year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers. Detailed financial terms of the deal were not announced.

6-9-2009 Ed Jovanovski agrees on a contract with Colorado Avalanche.
Ed Jovanovski has signed a $7,500,000 per year, 2 year deal with the Colorado Avalanche. Detailed financial terms of the deal were not announced.
