Great job QS.

This part really interests me;

"On more substantive grounds, though - the new game's treatment of retired players is much more user-friendly than its predecessors - I can click on Faulk's name in the transactions list, and see his "player card" including his entire career stats (In this case, that's only the one season that I have played - but you get the idea). For those of us who, over the course of a long career, tend to get somewhat sentimental about our players, this is a nice feature. "

Player card, I would love to see what that looks like and I more than welcome the retired stats feature.

I suspect the player card that QS refers to is the same one currently in the game.

More on this: It always annoyed me that I couldn't see the player card of the "Legend Of The Game" in FOF4 without re-loading at the end of the previous season. Nice addition!

In case it doesn't have its own thread, the latest update from QuikSand is here.

I like the new format for the draft. The combine scores I can take or leave, but the info screen for the draftees sounds a lot like the one for high school prospects in TCY, which is a good thing IMO.

I'm a little surprised the stud QB QS described fell to the #6 overall pick, though his explanation is reasonable (most of the other teams had bigger holes to fill).

I like that the scouting report format from TCY was used in the draft - but more than that, you get the sense that QS easily could assess the value of his picks without it being either a crapshoot or a sure thing. Very promising.

Was a little surprised too, but this may be good news, following QS's analysis of the other teams' needs. Maybe some improvement in draft AI right there, although this would have to be tested over a few seasons...

to start, QS is possibly the greatest beta-diary author I've ever had the pleasure of reading.

One thing I hope Jim changes (i doubt) is to give more information in the summary screen. I believe there are 30+ ratings for a player, and I don't see why more can't be added to this for more laser-guided picks. One thing I long to do is find amongst the data, that guy that fits my philosophy, and yet isn't necessarily rated high.

Overall, however, I like the direction the draft is taking. More information is always better. The draft has the potential to be the best part of the game, IMHO. For me, nothing would be more fun than pouring over the reams of data, draft a guy, and watch him develop over the years. Before, I would draft the first 2 players or so and let the scout pick the rest. Now, looks like I may last the entire draft.

I'm happy to see the stud QB go #6. If the teams drafted in ratings order, that would be very depressing indeed.

Well, well done QS.

I agree, I love the draft in any game - ootp, nhl, fof...

I always grow more attached to players I draft.

If height and weight have no purpose in the game, what role do the last 3 rankings in the draft screen play (40 time, bench press, etc)?

What's the next metaphor going to be?

I'm guessing training camp will be something like "Tuning Up The Engine."

Thanks god for the new "adjusted rating" on the draft screen. No more sorting by potential in round two and getting a list of 20 kickers!

True. But I have read somewhere ( not sure where) that helmets and logos can be imported into the game. Is this true?

I think a 35x35 pixel helmet (aka, very small), can be imported.

I'm still curious as to what purpose the "helmet" serves. 35x35 is hella small so it's probably not what some people might be expecting...

Note - at this point, for every rookie player (including the undrafted free agents that I offered no-risk contracts to come to camp with us), we still cannot see any red and green bars, nor any specific ratings. I'm still working with the scouted information - so my impressions are really not formed until we actually get into training camp.
Makes perfect sense to me. I like this.

One last note following training camp - there is another handy feature that is interesting, called "The Green Page." The Green Page details and ranks the top prospects in the league - the 20 most promising rookie players (with second-year QBs included, as they tend to develop more slowly). A quick look at this list shows me the whole picture of QB David Raines, who seems true to his initial billing, a potential monster in the making. CB Jerome Raymond is rated 4th on this list, and looks like he will be an impact player immediately also. Buffalo snagged a defensive end in the third round of this draft who already is looking like a very tip-top prospect - so there are at least suggestions of some draft twists as well. Jacksonville's fifth round rookie QB is ranked 10th on the list as well. Our Maroons are absent from the list, not too surprisingly.
Ooooh. This sounds nice!

QS is really a great salesman. And I don't mean this in a bad way...

Just reading his dynasty (yes, that's what it is...) makes me wanna play the game.

I didn't think QS's dynasty readings could get any better, and they have!

I might be off, but the game sounds much harder than before.

I wonder what difficulty QS is on?

I'm also getting more and more excited about the game by reading QS's reports. The draft sounds so much more interesting. I think this will make the game more immersive and I also like the Green Page idea. I can't wait to get this game.

Thanks 3ric, I figured as such. In fact, Jim probably has a special god-like difficulty for QS.

Through each week of the late free agency period, you may submit one offer to the player. Offer the higher offer at a given duration, and he's likely to accept it right away. Go for the lower offer, and you're increasing the risk of a holdout.

I wonder if this is tied into the loyalty rating. I think that would add something to the draft, knowing that you might get a guy a little cheaper because of his loyalty rating or take a chance on a guy who may be better but more likely to give you contract problems.

The more I read of this diary, the more I like. The draft rating seems like a great addition -- I'd like to see more "neutral" evaluation of how I'm doing throughout the game.

I just hope the draft rating takes draft position into account. If it's just based on talent, won't the teams with high picks just get high marks and low picks get low marks?

This depends on several things, but it COULD be possible to use a resource editor to change the size of the image. But this depends on if Jim uses a certain control, if he sets it to "stretch", if he does blah blah blah....

Small possibility.

Thumbs up

Am I the only who thinks that for Jim to have Quiksand do a beta diary in his own dynasty style of writing is the best PR move that could have happened for the FOF frnachise?

As a few have stated already, the more I read about his Maroons, the more I want to hear about them and how the new game let him manage them, and more importantly, the more I want this game in my hands...

Great move Jim! Great job Quiksand! Keep 'em reports coming, they are great!

Hey may just be referring to contracts with no signing bonus. They're virtually no-risk.
