i don't find any of this entertaining. this entire scenario is like a broken record. i'll reserve comments on who i think is wrong/right. but this isn't as entertaining as many think it is. quite redundant, actually.

i will say, knowing someone is a wife of a FOFC regular or not - if you know someone is a woman and you call that person a bitch or some other foul word, it just goes to show how little character and class you have to knowingly speak to a woman that way. hey, i'm no saint, but i don't walk around the FOFC clubhouse with my cock out and not think there's ladies in my presence. i know of about 5 or 6 female regulars here, most of them are someone's wife. if there ever was a time they were to anger me i wouldn't say anything bad to them not cuz they're someone's spouse but cuz they're ladies.

Hey, I'm from the south and I agree with this but there's rules to that behavior and they aren't simply for the men. There's a line there and it generally isn't crossed.

On an internet board the line is so blurred it may not even exist and when I see a poster name I don't usually wonder or even give a damn what sex they are. It's like in football, when the women reporters go into the locker room they lose the privelege of being offended by what they see or hear. Same with a message board I'd say.

But...

using the gender specific word bitch shows a knowledge that the poster is a woman and a conscious effort to use that to demean her and that's not cool to do.

Of course, it's not cool to be a racist and do that to an entire race of people either so I don't think this is going anywhere. I wouldn't have used the term and think it's uncool but comparatively speaking I don't think it was the worse of the two idiotic statements. Probably equal though.

I don't know anything about the incidents in question, but what a load of bullshit. The whole notion of treating someone "like a lady" stems from the notion that women are meak, sensitive, and unable to defend themselves. If that is the case with a woman or a man, I don't think to many here have a problem treating that person with sensitivity. I can think of an example that happened recently that most remember.

But if someone is being an asshole they're fair game to be called out for it, regardless--she lost her "lady" card.

Well I think Blackie certainly went over the line by getting personal. Really it doesn't matter what the specific insult was...you've said it over and over now, and it has crossed over from being something that was minor to a pretty substantial insult directed right at an individual.

Certainly Capsicum doesn't deserve to get any leeway(sp?) for being FN's wife, she deserves to get the same treatment anyone else who posts similar tripe gets. You however have taken it beyond the pale, and have essentially been personally attacking her ...repeatedly. It is too much.


Regarding Capsicum. Certainly in my time here I haven't seen anyone stir up as much trouble in a short time as she has. When she was first banned/suspended/unbanned she had on the order of a dozen posts. Many of them spewing hate. Having strong opinions, even unpopular opinions, is one thing. Posting in the hate filled manner is another. Cap's posts are often dark, so dark their content makes me uncomfortable. I've never ignored anyone, never even considered it, but she has brought me to the point where I might ignore her if she returns. Jon indicated that she brought up a valid point with the post quoting the article with some pretty blatantly racist comments in it. Well I agree that that point of view certainly exists, and probably not in as small a percentage as I would predict. It is the way Cap makes her point that has people up in arms. Tact isn't her strong suit. She is blunt to the point that she is trollish, and I think she deserves to be treated like a troll.

I agree full heartedly with this...ladies, while under similar punishment guidelines, deserve to be treated with respect. What is said and in what mannor should be watched, as is it a reflection of your character and self-dignity...I dont believe i ever post vulgar posts, and certainly never at or around ladies, so you cant discredit me that i know of. Ive been at fofc for 5 years now and the board has slowly but surely lowered its standards of class and i think cursing at and slandering women is where we gentlemen should draw a line.

I don't find the trout or cowbell jokes funny personally, but their not disrespectful so i dont mind them. Not respecting women is something i dont tolerate, message board or not. I dont think its that hard for us to act with class, regardless of our ages since i know we have a wide range...from youngins like shorty, illini and i(im 18, and i think they are too..not sure) up to sky and quik...i think everyone can agree to have certain standards

I never read the politics thread(never read em, only drama), and im not about to take sides...i have known black and frank for some time as fellow posters and dont assume to know who is right...but i do believe we should have the self-respect and character to treat women with respect...one fellow poster mentioned doing that would imply they are weak and meaningless, and he couldn't be further off...its just a sign of respect, one i personally feel we can collectively practice.
