Actually, I'd credit Callahan more than any program in the north. Callahan could recruit, but his game planning especially on defense was awful. I'm still not sold on Pelini, but the guy can put together a good defense.
I give NU credit tonight. They came in with a lot of players under the weather and were able to get a road win which puts them in the driver's seat in the Big 12 north. Zac Lee is not the answer at QB though...despite his incredible fourth quarter. |

Yeah, how can you blame the QB when he threw two picks that allowed Nebraska to start drives at the Mizzou 17 and 10 yard lines. It was Mizzou's red zone D that really let them down.

Gotta give Gabbert a little credit, both picks were great defensive plays, especially the pick from the DL.
What a crappy night. Cards choke. Mizzou chokes. At least I have beer. |

I think that Mizzou BB fan has turned Mizzou into a top 5 most hated teams, just by his demeanor.

Gary Pinkel was the guy I wanted hired at the UW back in 1999 before Neuheisel was hired, so he's a coach I pull for, and I like a lot of the Mizzou fans on this board; that said MBBF has single-handedly managed to make me ecstatic that Nebraska won tonight, especially after MBBF got all cocky on the outcome before the game ended.

Put me in the "Happy Nebraska won" camp, for the same reason as everyone else. Now all that needs to happen is Sony to go under.

The out route was especially horrible. Suh just made a great play on the other one. Of course, Nebrask dropped like 3 other interceptions in just the 2nd half alone.

There's no question that post will 'live in infamy'. I'm okay with that. With that said, MU had no business pissing down its leg from that point forward given who they were playing and the circumstances. If we put that final quarter in a simulator, Mizzou wins that game 95% of the time. Unfortunately, the games aren't played in a simulator. |

It wasn't even 20 minutes. Mizzou folded in the space of about 2-3 game minutes, but only about 10 real-time minutes.

Imagine that the worst thing you could have done last night would have been to watch the first 3Q and turn off the TV at 12-0, while missing the 27pt 4th quarter explosion/implosion.

We had a co-worker do something even better. Not only did she turn the TV off after three quarters (Mizzou was ahead 12-0), but she then woke up this morning assuming Mizzou had won. She put on all of her MU gear and walked into the office with pride, only to be informed that MU had lost. |

Bradford will return for OU tomorrow. The odds still aren't great for the good guys against Texas next week, but it sure makes my day to see Bradford coming back and getting a game to tune up before then.

I think the football gods are punishing Bradford, McCoy and Tebow for not coming out last year when the Lions had the first overall pick. It's not that the Lions would have (or should have) necessarily chosen any of the three, but it could have greatly increased the value of that pick.
Oh well, they are not likely to escape the Lions' wrath, as all three will be forced to enter the draft next year and the Lions should be sitting pretty somewheres in the top 5. Sorry, fellas.

I told you MMBF that this was not going to be an easy game.. espeically with the crappy conditions.. Nebraska did NOT go into VT and lost by 1 point, because they are an "average" team.
Once Gabbert was hurt, he was VERY timid and it showed. |

The weather really hurt Mizzou. They had a lot of things that they inserted in the gameplan during the bye week that they had to scrap when they realized it was going to be nasty. Nebraska is an average team, which makes it all the more frustrating that our QB was injured and that we managed to piss down our leg against a team that was not as good as MU. UT and OU fans are excited because they'd love nothing more than for the third best team in the North (NU) to win the division. It makes a conference championship that much easier. Nebraska's only loss came cross-country at Virginia Tech by a point when they were stopped 5 times in the red zone and were doubling up the Hokies in yardage until a miracle pass play in the last minute. The Huskers have some weaknesses - the pass defense is weak and Zac Lee isn't a very good QB - but they're solidly in the #10-15 range right now between the O-line and the defense. I don't know why you keep trying to insist they're not good (and bring down Missouri even more). |

I will agree the weather hurt Mizzou, probably more so than Nebraska - but it did hurt them too and they came here and smoked us.. bottom line, we were beat by a better team this year.
Props to Nebraska... as much as I hate to say it. :P |

Other games I'm looking forward to this week:
Record vs. Spread (including NU/MU) 7-6 I'm not picking every game anymore - CSU/Idaho are on their own - picks in bold. UMass @ Delaware (+4.5) 12PM No TV - Gotta throw my school a bone here. UMass has the same weaknesses of penalties at the wrong times and poor offensive playcalling, but wins here. BC @ Virginia Tech (+13.5) 12PM ESPN360 - I hope VT wins big, but that's a lot of points against BC. FSU taught me my lesson - time to stop picking BC games where my dislike of their school clouds my judgment. Auburn @ Arkansas (+2.5) 12PM ESPN - Nice 12pm games. Malzahn gets his revenge? (I guess he hates Nutt more, and probably still likes the state of Arkansas. Maybe he can get the job if Petrino bounces at the right time.) Houston @ Miss St. (-2.5) 12:30 ESPNU - Case Keenum threw for 536 and they got smoked by UTEP. UTEP gained fewer yards vs. Texas than points vs. Houston. Screw it, they have to have some pride. Wisconsin @ Ohio St. (+16) 3:30PM ABC - Wisconsin hasn't won a game by more than 7 points (partly because of late collapses) Still, 16 points. Alabama @ Ole Miss (+4.5) 3:30 CBS - Alabama covers. They finish exposing Mississippi as the pretenders they always were. You don't lose 1st round picks on OL and DL and improve. TCU @ Air Force (+10) - 7:30PM TV? - TCU's defense is very talented. Let's see if it can stay disciplined. Florida @ LSU (+8) 8PM CBS - I don't think LSU is good, but I don't want to pick against Death Valley at night. In one of the two matchups the next 6 days that will decide the frontrunners for the BCS title game (along with USF-Cincy Thursday) I'll go Florida to win, but LSU to cover. |

I learned that Missouri fans are among the worst in the Big 12. This is actually quite widely known around conference insiders. Being an SEC guy, wouldnt have known that.
Talked to several folks who said they would never go to college game in Missouri again, even with free tickets versus their alma mater.

Malzahn doesn't hate Arkansas nor does he have any reason to, other than being in the same division with them. There isn't a revenge story here. Maybe when Auburn plays Ole Miss. The state loves him and he is from here. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up coaching here again someday. |

What a load of bullshit. Care to share any specifics? I was at the game and Nebraska fans lived up to their billing as the classiest fans in college but I also noticed that Mizzou fans had nothing to say after the 20 point barrage and left them alone. There were actually quite a few handshakes and good games exchanged by both sides. But I guess you know "several folks" so it must be true. Last edited by panerd : 10-10-2009 at 09:48 AM. |
