Amazon starts charging IL residents tax starting tomorrow, bummer.

Placed a last minute order last night. I'll be getting about 20 boxes worth of items over the next few days. My delivery people will be cursing my name, especially since we got a bunch of snow dumped on us in the last 24 hours.

Which leads me to this thought... why does every news outlet that exists in the northern half of the US act like snow is the worst thing since the ice age? I live in a northern climate because I love 4 seasons and I am absolutely joyful when we get a bunch of snow. The more the better. If you don't like snow then there are about 20 states that you can choose to live in and choose something else to whine about. End of rant.

People were joking that local grocery stores and the like pay the weather people to exaggerate conditions.

Our Kroger/Meijer was packed wall to wall yesterday for the snow we were supposed to get and all we got was a bit of sleet.

I despise that the Weather Channel is trying to start the trend through social media and their crap tv station of naming winter storms.

Just stop already.

I told my wife, father-in-law and mother-in-law last night during the game that Pete Carroll is a 9/11 truther.

They had no idea what that was... how is that even possible? They were stunned that there's a sizable subset of people who actually believe that.

Also, I find this odd, since at least one of there is a very clear Obama birther.

But can we find an Obama Birther who is also a 9/11 Truther?! If so methinks the government should probably track their every movement!

So there's this anti-vax doctor, Dr. Jack Wolfson, making the media rounds due to the measles outbreak. He's saying all of this crazy nonsense, even blaming one child's leukemia on vaccines. So I go to his bio on his website and read...

Well that explains why he's been saying such dumb shit, he's been thinking with his dick for the last 10+ years.

Reach it? Yes. If we can reach Mars, we can reach a 40k summit on Earth.

Climb it? I doubt it. the air is too thin - the 29,035 foot mix used on Everest would be entirely inadequate - and it's too cold (about -64F). You'd be too high for too long unless you were enclosed in something like a spacesuit.

"Take Me to Church" is a really odd song. I'm pretty surprised it's a hit since it sounds like a demo recorded in a bathroom.

I'm in the middle on this one. Don't hate it, don't love it. It's decent enough that I usually won't change the channel when it's on.

Fine, I'll say it. I love it. Especially when he performed it live at the Victoria Secret Fashion show this year.

Sooo, my son and I were leaving a school curriculum/orientation meeting tonight and heard a bunch of pops when we were getting in our car. Remarked on it, thought nah, couldn't be. Turns out there was a shooting at the JV basketball game.

IIRC they used to make an occasional appearance on ABC's Wide World Of Sports, way back once upon a time.

The dog woke up shivering like mad. I naturally assumed he either thought I was dying, heard something terrifying, or there was about to be a massive earthquake. I'm currently leaning towards option two.

I've always wanted to hook up an LED display on my rear window that I could punch buttons near my steering wheel to light up various messages when I pass people:
Your lights are out (or Turn on Your Lights)
It's the pedal on the right
You're a danger to society

You get the idea...

It often occurs to me - with no small measure of regret - that the sole reason Jon is able to spew his putrescent bile here is because, a little over a decade ago, when Blackadar asked me if I wanted to take over the reins of FOFC, I told him I wasn't going to have the time for that.

The burdens of leadership ultimately fell to Ben. This place is still around, so he must be doing something right, whatever other disagreements may arise.

The fact that Jon has a platform for his asshattery?

That one's on me. Sorry, y'all.

Is there a post Jon put up recently that triggered this?

While we all certainly are familiar with Jon's more extreme thoughts on a number of topics, I don't find him offensive or an issue, in general. He contributes far more to the board than he takes with his opinions.

This almost seems like you're trolling for a response?

If someone posted that "there's no such thing as an honest jew" or "there's no such thing as a hard working black", they'd be banned immediately and permanently. Considering that I know we have Muslim members, this is simply disgusting.

The ball is in your court, mods. Either you take appropriate action or everyone here will realize that you sympathize with these bigoted views.

I'm guessing as with any of those books with dumb viewpoints, they get a ton of reviews and everyone tries to be funny as hell and suddenly some shit book gets 100x in sales because people feel bad for the author, ala chick fil-a, etc.

With these new smart phone baby monitoring systems, distance is no longer limited.

So, what do you think is the acceptable distance to be away from your sleeping baby/toddler?

Can I go two doors down and pick up Chinese food? How about across the street for a coffee? or down the block to shop at the grocery store?

Once, as a joke, a buddy of mine went into a bar and set up a baby monitor next to his beer.
