That was as intense an hour of television as I can remember.

I thought they'd end the episode with Arya getting hit in the head and it going to black, but they did a good job putting that on screen. I agree it didn't seem as chaotic as in the books. I'm guessing tv viewers started to catch on when they showed Cat getting suspicious after RoC started playing.

Seriously. Walder was brilliant all episode long. I've been watching with my girlfriend and another friend of ours, neither of whom read the books. My buddy Matt, as soon as Talisa was stabbed: "I hate this episode." That being said, of the three people I know who are watching the show but haven't read the books, two called it that Rob was going to be the next major character to die. I have no idea why they thought so, but they definitely pegged it. |

Seeing the reaction from FB and Twitter... that episode worked as intended.

I was actually surprised that there was only one facebook comment from my friends about the episode last night. Either my friends all have read the books and knew what was coming, or all must just DVR it and watch later or something. Was far crazier on facebook after Ned died in season 1.
That said, this was the episode I've been waiting for all season and it did not disappoint at all. I thought it was pretty brilliant. |

I havent read the books or spoilers about them so the story is pretty much playing out via the episodes for me. When the music started it made me think of the guy who wasn't drinking (cant recall his name...my 1 complaint with GoT on HBO is that I cant seem to remember anybody's name beyond a few...though could be just me & my bad memory for names). I actually expected something to happen to Robb's wife but was not expecting all THAT. Brilliant episode and I'll say it did seem pretty chaotic to me. I thought Robb was going to survive & somehow somebody would save him (i.e. was thinking of Bran via 1 of those wolves or Arya/Dog showing up in time). But damn....that was intense & made my wife cry. I was just talking with my wife before the episode about how little we've heard from Robb about vengeance for his father and how he seemed to be less & less motivated by it (I guess a wife & kid on the way can do that). I thought his wife would be taken from him and drive him into perpetual madness. Guess I was wrong. Now I'm back where I was when S1 ended....wtf and I have no idea what the fallout will be. |

Okay, so I neither watch the show nor have I read the series, so a quick Wiki review was in order for me just to figure out what I had pieced together from various comments vs what actually happened.
I didn't do too bad but now I've got a question that I guess really goes for those who've done the books

They've certainly shown a willingness to 'dress-down' certain characters and injuries, so I imagine it will be much the same. What looks good on screen seems to be the priority, which I'm fine with.

As a non-reader, I figured something bad was going to go down at the wedding, but they did a really good job of keeping the tension high throughout the entire scene. I thought maybe Robb would get taken out, but didn't expect his wife to get such a brutal attack. I think the actress that plays Catelyn gave an award winning performance. You could feel her tension and then it seemed like the worst was over and, just as she began to relax, shit went down.
I know the wedding scene overshadowed the rest of the episode, but I thought the Jon Snow stuff was really good (had no idea what he'd do -- thought he loved the girl). I really liked it and the actors in it, but I thought the scene with Daenerys' three men felt like the most out of place (stick out like a sore thumb-type) scenes in the show. It made them look like bad asses and was really well choreographed, but something about that scene looked like an 80s music video or something. It just looked like it was shot on a stage or lot with weird lighting and effects, compared to all the amazing scenery throughout the rest of the series. I think it is cool that she has assembled a small court of memorable warriors -- makes me look forward to her scenes even more. |

It was really overdue to remind people that Jorah (and to a lesser degree Grey Worm and Daario) is sort of a badass. I agree that the scenery seemed quite lacking, especially for a show that is so good at presentation, but in all I thought it worked well.

I had two minor quibbles with last night's episode. I'm kinda sad they couldn't have worked in Catelyn insisting that Robb eat when Walder offered food. In the books, Robb is reluctant to eat what Walder offers, but Catelyn insists that he eat so he falls under the auspices of guest rule. Once Walder has fed his guests, he should be obligated to maintain their safety throughout their stay.
The other is that the Frey girl seemed to be having far too good a time during the wedding. In the books, she's obviously nervous and upset the entire time. Very minor quibbles, not at all disappointed with how they pulled it off. |

As much as I loved the Freys, I have been disappointed with Roose Bolton. He's so much creepier in the books. In the show he's just another lord, where in the books he's so odd that everyone is leery of him. I get that TV wouldn't let them do the soft speaking so central to his character, but they could do a lot more to make Roose stand out from the rest of the Northern lords.

I disagree re: Bolton. I find the actor playing him has good "dead eyes" and seems very cold.

Some gems
Carlos Adrianzen @ingloriousClos Why doesn't George R.R. Martin use twitter? Because he killed all 140 characters. #gameofthrones John Hayward @Doc_0 Game of Thrones: a show for those who can't deal with the sunny optimism of The Walking Dead. Mrs. @eab2940 @selfishlady I have given birth twice to 8 & 9 pound babies. Watching Robb Stark die hurt more than both times combined. #gameofthrones #redwedding David M. Johnson @davidmichael10 The best way to read/watch Game of Thrones is to hate every character. That way the constant mass murder doesn't get you down. Jason Kramer @jasonakramer Game of Thrones has killed off more well-developed characters than exist in most other TV shows. Nur @nurberxo You know why the end credits had no music? The sound of your sobbing and sniffling is the music. #gameofthrones |

I don't know if HBOGo is available as a separate on-demand channel for normal cable/sat subscribers. I DO know TV is possible if he has a player that supports the HBOGo app (Roku, 360, PS3, blu-ray player, whatever). Otherwise, mobile or PC, I believe. |

A lot of providers allow it with a Roku. Directv does not.

I find it funny how many people are upset over this episode. Do people just want stories that are all happy-go-lucky from beginning to end?

I've read the books so knew what to expect. I was upset then because I have invested so much time in the books and he was a main character that got unexpectedly lopped off. If it was Sansa, no great loss. |

I read a post on another forum where a guy was pissed that HBO didnt alter the script to make sure Robb or at least Catelyn should have survived. Someone correctly said that would have been like James Cameron not letting the titanic sink in his movie |

I haven't read the books and I have to admit I'm a little worried where they go with this after killing off so many main characters. But I don't think every good guy in every story has to have a happy ending.

FWIW I have not read any of the books so had no idea what was going to happen. Having said that as this episode progressed there was a weird vibe and I kept thinking something was going to happen. When Robbs wife was asked to approach the Lord (yeah have a terrible time remembering all of the names too) something was going to happen then. That passed and as the party seemed to be coming to an end I thought I was just being paranoid. Guess not
It was disturbing and I didn't like it. It was also great tv and as long as it is true to the books I wouldn't change a thing. LOL at anyone that thinks HBO, the producers or anyone else should have changed the story. |

Yeah same here. I actually had to go back and read the scene again to be honest as I couldn't remember what the differences were, especially Robb's wife.
