Top 10 Scott Stevens' hits:

Bassen's career was over after that hit. How Kariya and Kozlov got up from those is a mystery. Will we continue to see hits like these in the 'new' NHL?

Call your local TWC and order it. When you call here, you have to choose to speak to a rep and then tell them you want the Center Ice package.

I don't count Jean-Marc Pelletier or Eric Chouinard, although they were both born in Atlanta.

He made the Shattuck roster, I usually get to a few Shattuck games every year. Shattuck is the American school that Sidney Crosby played at for a year til he was Junior eligible.

Ah, yes, I know that game, order the package, season starts, spend a half hour on the phone trying to get said package working. Not a big fan of TWC myself, but, they have been getting better.

Jim Rome has a great take on this (when ordering a PPV boxing match)...

Customer: "Hi, I ordered the boxing match, and it starts in 15 minutes, and I'm not receiving it yet."
Rep: "You won't be receiving coverage until 10 minutes before the event."
Customer: "The 'event' already started, the pre-match is on right now."
Rep: "Turn to Channel 138, I'm showing you as having ordered the event."
Customer: "I'm on Channel 138, it's not on."
Rep: "Ok, let me order the event for you. What's your credit card #?"
Customer: "I already paid for the event, and it's not on."
Rep: "Ok, I've ordered the event for you, please turn to Channel 138."
Customer: "I'm on Channel 138, it's not on."
Rep: "Please tune to Channel 138."

...

Bringing a goalie up at 18 is unheard of. Subjecting a kid to the stresses of being a major league hockey player is a great way to get him injured (just like a young major league pitcher). Practicing 4-5 hours a day, every day, is too much for a teenager and his body broke down because of what the Rags did.

I thought he had a series of two physical breakdowns, though, which to me indicates that he just wasn't ready for the bigtime.

In other news, the Leafs get slaughtered 7-4 last night by a younger, faster and more skilled Senators team, proving they are just as adept at losing in the preseason as they are in the playoffs every year.

As compared to the Senators...

I'm the first to say my Leafs are not headed for a great season... but the preseason is a horrible guide to how things will go when the season starts. Especially when you're comparing a team which decided on it's core early on versus a team that is still using their preseason games to evaluate talent.

LOL....im fine with the Sens kicking our ass in preseason....who cares....im sure they wish they could beat us just once in the playoffs though..... .....BTW, Leafs have been one of the most succesful playoff teams in the 6 years Pat Quinn has coached

I would argue the Leafs have been no better than the 10th most successful playoff team in the 6 years Quinn has coached.

To argue over the Leafs playoff success would be useless since they haven't won a Cup in those six years...

I disagree....We have won 7 series, and lost 6....thats 13 total in 6 years....I know we havent won a cup, but you cant find 10 teams that have won that many series, or played that many series over the last 6 seasons

Well the Devils have begun to address their salary cap issues by trading Jeff Freisen to the Caps for a 2006 conditional draft pick. The Caps have finally awoke from her slumber.

by bye friesen.

'It was a combination of things,'' Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said of the trade. ''His salary was certainly at a level that was, quite frankly, too high. And we felt comfortable that we had a good group of young players."

yeehaw, you have managed to average making it to the 2nd round of the playoffs each year. TICKER TAPE PARADE!!!

I'll gladly take our 1 run into the Finals with no playoffs the last 3 seasons over mediocrity every season in the playoffs.

Has it just become mandatory that no Leaf fan can say anything good about the team without someone breaking out the "parade" jokes? All he said was they've had some playoff success, which is true. He didn't say they won the Cup, he just said they were among the ten best teams of the last half dozen years.

Seriously, every conversation a Leaf fan has goes something like this:

Other fan: "Leafs suck!"
Leaf fan: "No they don't."
Other fan: "They totally suck!"
Leaf fan: "They had 100 points last year."
Other fan: "HA! Why don't you go plan the parade route! Boo-yah!"
(Wildly looks around for another fan to high-five.)

sorry ML but uh...

Winning on average 1 friggin playoff series per year and not making the Finals does not qualify you to make that statement.

Now that is a typical conversation with a Leaf fan.

Leaf fans have nothing on Sabre fans, as Chubby said, they have been in a Cup final more recently then Toronto and frankly, for what the Leafs paid out in payroll, they should have had much more success then what they had.

So i decided to jump in here.

My beloved Red Wings puzzle me.... I mean, that still have yet to address the enforcer role. McCarty left a hole that hasnt been filled, and trust me Dan LaCouture is not the answer.

As I rewatched that brawl, I took was worried.

Fischer is imposing but lets be honest .. He can't fight. LaCouture won't even make the team. So we have some bodies (Franzen is decent sized, Holmer, Maltby) but no one who can drop 'em. It's a mighty concern. Bootland will scrap himself but he's in Grand Rapids right now.

So it's a legit concern, and I am curious to see how it works out.

Eh. While I agree Dan LaCoture isn't the answer, McCarty hasn't really been that much of an enforcer for a few years. Now, it was nice to have him around knowing that if it came to it, he could drop the gloves and stand up for his team, but I don't see the lack of a "tough guy" a mighty concern. I would rather have over all team toughness, than just a goon. Though I do question whether the Wings do have over all toughness, despite having Fischer, Chelios, Shanahan, Frazen, Maltby, etc. Not all that imposing, even though early on in this off-season Holland did mention something about addressing the team's toughness and size. That didn't really happen.

Given the salary cap issues, I can see where the Wings made a decision to not to assign a portion of their limited cap space to some goon. I don't see the Wings being intimidated by some team and not being able to stand up for themselves. They'll be fine. As much as I love watching things like that video and loved the days of the Bruise Brothers and all that, I am not all that worried about it.

Bah. I guess we could argue over whether it's better to be a doormat with one trip to the finals (and no championship) or a consistently good team with no trips to the finals (and no championship). I'm not sure when making the finals took on some sort of special status above and beyond and extra playoff round win, but if that's your sole measure then I guess the Sabres go right up there with other dynasties like the Caps, Hurricane and Panthers.

At the end of the day, I think we'd all agree that it's the "no championships" part that counts.
