What about the media obsession with my team's conference, the big 12? Erasing last year, we always have one or two teams in the final four. But every damn year we lose the thing. Why are teams even respected from our league? We almost always lose out to a lower seed in the tournament and the teams the make it to the elite 8 and the final four neve, ever win at it all. We have won two national titles since 1950 and they are both from Kansas, but yet we get spoken of as a conference with great basketball heritage. Face it, we are a football conference, end of story.

UW with the rock and a three point lead with less than three minutes to play. If they pull this off that will just rock pretty much every bracket pool.

I was happy after last night, even though the 'Zags lost...I was 3 - 1 last night...but this game right here could be the dagger in an iffy bracket this year.

Ouch - Jensen fouls out, giving Williams a chance for a 3 point play.

This rule sucks. The opposing team's coach should be able to decide. Make the kid tough it up and shoot the shots or else suffer the consequences.

UCONN's so dumb. Didn't they watch Pac-10 tourney tape? Just punch Appleby in the nose, and UDub falls apart.

You're right because that has everything to do with this game.

Someone check the refs' gym bags. I think they may have picked a win from Romar's wallet.

CR, I didn't say it did. But I'm not going to be the best audience for a sob story from UW about the refs after they were beneficiaries last game. That is all I was saying.

Yeah, I understand that. And I am being a little disingenious, too, because you would read what I wrote as sayign the refs determiend this one. Not at all. UDub had their chances. They weren't helped by the refs, but they certainly didn't help themselves. That turnover at the end where Roy fouled out was just a killer.

UConn did what they needed to do. Anderson looked clutch.

Why the hell did Jensen foul at the end of the game. Don't you pretty much give them the 2 in that spot? That way if you hit your two free throws, it's a 4 pt. game.

I don't watch that much basketball, but even I can say that had to be one of the worst officiated games I have ever seen. Every ticky tack call you can think of and then some. UConn player trips, must be a foul, etc. I mean frankly you just cannot make excuses for reffing that has one team have 5 guys foul out and the other team none.

When Jensen committed that utterly assinine foul on the three-point play, I had pretty much thought UConn was going to either win or force overtime (of course, UConn did both). Dimwittedness like that for the stakes being played for deserved to be punished harshly. Yes, it sounds harsh, but the axiom always is that if you're up by more than three, let the twos go and for the love of all that is holy and wonderful, don't foul the shooter.

(That still gives me pains to say since I rate UConn only slightly ahead of Carolina and Duke on my likability scale....)

Aside from being a UConn fan there were not two better reasons than I had to be cheering for UConn. I have them winning the bracket and I had money on UConn giving 6 points. (Let's just say I was hanging by a thread when the last guy hit the two meaningless free throws to change what had been a loss the whole night into an improbable push)

And I will say the officiating was worse than horrible. I don't claim any conspiracy theory on why it was so bad. I just think there were about 3 plays towards the end of the game (The trip by Williams that was called a foul, the clear goal tend that was called a block, and the player getting really hurt and then coming back in to play at the next horn) that all went against Washington. All of them. They lost due to the offciating. (And I should be happy)

Bingo. He lost it, not the refs. They are handing out stupid pills in the state of Washington this year. Gonzaga and UW suffer total meltdowns on consecutive nights, both of which could have been easily avoided with just a few brain cells, no pun intended.

In the newspaper here (on campus) we do a whole picks thing and well, I picked Texas to make it to the Final Four and I was the only one to pick George Mason over UConn.

The sports editor laughed at me. But after watching Mason tonight and realizing they have a home game..and everyone loves the upset...well, I hope they make me look like a smart man.
