NATIONALIZED HEALTHCARE BILL
WHEREAS, we are all endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable Rights, including Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. This Congress believes that the second and third are currently cared for. Liberty? Well, we got that statue. Pursuit of Happiness? Internet porn (I rest my case). However, the first right is under attack from the Wolf threat. BE IT RESOLVED: Nationally sponsored and supported healthcare is hereby established for all citizens (as long as you're a Congressman and not a member of the Wolf Party). This mechanism allows for a member of congress to be named as "Doctor" and granted certain special attributes:

our thinking with the bill is that we don't think CR is going to let 2 good powers in today. Or at least that's my thinking. The role options were vigilante/hunter and examiner. Examiner looks like it can realistically be made later. Vigilante/Hunter could be too strong IMO, so we'll go this route.

My clerk made an administrative snafu and will be sufficiently paddled over my knee tonight, but this bill is officially sponsored by path12 and Eaglefan.

I think it was really all of me, Pass, Tyrith, RendeR at some point. We kinda twiddled our thumbs most of the day and then RendeR really helped us get something done. Not that he pushed it perse', but he got us off our collective asses. |

I'd probably be pinging your radar because I'm talking :P Generally people who talk are the ones on the radar.
Along those lines, I'd be willing to strongly consider a Mrs. S lynch now that I've had time away from the board. However, I'm afraid of starting a continual maiming of Republicans that winds up with only a few of us left alive in the coming days, with all of our power vested in likely wolves. I can say with relative certainty that unless something quite eventful happens I will vote for either Lathum or Mrs. S - although I'd still be open to EagleFan. |

Yeah. Generally heinz, pass, and I have been the ones doing most of the talking. I was waiting for someone for someone else to say something but had to leave, and then Render did an awesome job showing up and spurring some conversation between himself and heinz that mirrored a lot of the thinking between Pass and myself. illini, Mrs. S, and PB haven't been talking as much, but PB is out for the day so that's understandable. |

I would question why you feel your constiuants would disagree with the IDA? A bill that does nothing more than make our elected Officials stand up and be held accountable for their actions? I would think this is something every bleeding heart liberal would be screaming for? |

The reason I ask is that my initial thought is that this will be deemed unconstitutional since it really is just taking away a wolf role. And my thinking is that it would be a good wolf strategy (if somewhat risky) to get bills presented that are eventually overturned. So I just wanted to know if there was any one person pushing for this bill. However, the more I think about this, the more I wonder if it might just pass judicial review. You are essentially giving up a potential villager role (since this bill could be a role-creating bill) to remove a wolf role. I'll love it if it works, since I hate having a cunning wolf. We'll see. Note - Not meaning to be combative with the whole "it may be unconstitutional" thing, it's just what crossed my mind when I first read it. |

Yeah, we're taking a bit of a risk - I talked about making it narrower, but I don't mind this version. But it's interesting enough we might be able to get away with it.

The number of Members from both sides that have contributed almost nothing to the conversation greatly concerns me. Although I certainly appreciate Mrs. S. culling the posts to put up a vote count, I can't say that really qualifies. So I'm putting up the same vote as I started with (and wish I had kept) yesterday for fundamentally the same reason. I do wish that I had done this before Tyrith made his post, for fear of appearing to pile on, but I can't do anything about that now.

Wow, lots to think about a react to today. More random musings from henry296 and the activities of the past 24 hours:
1. Thanks to my fellow democrats for their heroic actions to save me despite costing us any chance of the presidency. I don't think it had a huge impact on the losses of Chubby and Lathum. The sabotoge by heinz and clap was clearly responsible for those actions. 2. From reading the thread realtime there were about 6 votes for me from the republicans in 20 posts. That made the vote 8-5 against me with one on Kwhit and my party was forced to respond. That run really convinced me that this was going to be a partisan vote. If the republicans wanted to make this a non-partisan vote they would've split their votes between kwhit and I. Not that there is anything wrong with that from a game perspective. I'm not sure what I can do to convince people that I'm not a wolf, except that it was a partisan vote except for pass. 2. I'm not sure how to respond to my own loss. I was trailing in the polls going into the day, so the successfully passing of my bill by Congress which was popularly supported should've helped since it wasn't overturned until the next morning. From a game mechanics perspective, the slurries of the republican party turned the tide. However, don't worry I will be back and run for re-election as I remain extremely popular. 3. Speaker - I have no vote, but I'm suprised by the republican's running 2 candidates. 4. While the democrats were hurt by the decisions during the game, I feel if in power the republican's would've made similar decisions. For example, a republican would've vetoed the bill and were very close to having a partisan lynching. I guess you can thank pass for that. i think the republicans who are making a big deal out of hits the democrats took need to look in the mirror because they would've done the same thing in our shoes. 5. Supreme Court decision was surprising. Do we think that no matter what the third bill was, it would've been rejected. CR was very vague about not knowing the other bills caused him to change his mind.

(insert tongue into cheek)
It is searching us without probable cause -- simply because some random member of Congress decides he doesn't like the cut of your jib. As the great philosopher Homer J. Simpson once opined, "That's not America. That's not even Mexico." |

BTW, about winning -- the number of villager people in the game is only tangentially related to us winning the game. Ultimately it's about controlling congressional districts. With the way the game was originally set up this was even more true because booted reps couldn't vote in the wolf lynch. Even now that they can, getting people out of office essentially gives us more lynches if we choose. We should try to utilize them if we think they might be good lynches, as we can only win the game through lynching. Although I'm not advocating lynching everyone via election willy-nilly, either, but it's a club in our bag.

VOTE YES ON IDA
VOTE YES ON NHB VOTE PACKERFANATIC FOR SPEAKER VOTE MRS. SCHMIDTY FOR WOLF I think that covers about everything. One problem I'm personally having this game (besides a busier week than I hoped for) is that due to the partisanship going on it's hard for me to get a read on suspicious people in my own party......the people who stand out to me are all Reps and I'm not sure that at least part of that is because of the party warfare.

I'll be back in a little over an hour I think, but I didn't want to leave without posting my votes on the bills as well:
YES ON IDA NO ON NHB As far as my wolf vote, I'm not sure who to go with at the moment. I don't understand the votes on myself - the only arguments I've seen are for lack of posting. Lame. I post when there is something glaringly obvious to me to avoid leading anyone in the wrong direction. I don't like making blind accusations or assumptions. The only exception may be for day 1 wolf votes with nothing to go on. Congressman Smith (as in Jimmy Stuart) was also persecuted for his seemingly naive way of thinking, and if I'm to be in the same boat as him, I am honored. He is someone we should all aspire to be like, honest, trusting and always looking out for the good of the country. |
