Some people get to do both AND have their pensions cut.

Tough shit basically. Half those in attendance have little ones, including the owner.

Was she paid for attending? Gas and mileage reimbursement ?

You know what I don't understand? Those flexible straws that have the top part that bends? Why not make the whole straw out of that? If you think a "crazy straw" is fun, something like that would blow your mind. #missedopportunity

So the wife and I and one of her friends are going to a wedding next month. We are going to split the hotel room. My wife thinks it should be split three ways, once for each person, while I think it should be split in half, for each party. Is there any sort of etiquette?

I think I read this story in Penthouse Forum...

and IMO 2 ways unless there are 3 beds because that's what you really are splitting. If the friend doesn't like it she can pay full price for her own room.

1) Friend is female, right?
2) Pics pls k, thx!
3) Pending results of number 2 I think Id discuss alternate payment arrangements.
4) Assuming the wife is down with that of course, err ehhh actually who cares about #4

I'll skip over the obvious joke(s) here (although they were my first though while reading this) ... it's a 2-party split afaic.

Personally, if I'm a situation like the described, I tend to split it 3 ways, one for each person. Then again, it will also come to some sort of uneven split like the person who gets the big bedroom in an apartment paying more. So, for instance, if the hotel is $170, the couple would pay $100 and the single $70 because while they are splitting the bed, I suspect the room is not really split in half.

I can see the argument for both sides. I'd probably offer to split it 3 ways because I tend to think of "fairness" but if the scenario was reversed, and I was the solo one in a situation that somehow wasn't weird, and the two people asked me to pay 1/3, I'd insist on just splitting it.

The way I see it, if your wives were both going on their own, they'd split the room. Your inclusion adds nothing to the total price, unless there's an extra charge for a second bed of course.

American politicans in general? Anywhere politicians?

Though we've done a similar one to the anywhere politicans already.

Hmm. American politicians. Draft a Pres, VP, Chief of Staff, Sec of Defense, Sec of State, Press Secretary, National Security Advisor?

I was actually thinking of something similar, but along the lines of a monarchy as opposed to a democratically elected thing.

That's true - you could do anywhere politicians and make the list of positions longer - say "draft every US cabinet position"

So I am headed back to my desk here at work, and I hit an interior doorway at the same time as a woman coming the other way. As per normal, we both smile and say "excuse me!" as we make way for each other going by.

Apparently she was paying more close attention to getting by me than to her other side, because she pretty much ran into that side of the doorway on her way through.

So I ask you, is it wrong that I snickered at that?

So we are supposed to go to a couples baby shower tomorrow night for two of our best friends. My wife and 2 other girls are the co hosts. Won't be too bad as I like most of the guys and the playoffs will be on, will be kind of like a party with a girly theme.

About an hour ago the girl whose house it is at called my wife and is violently ill. So the shower has been moved, and you guessed it, to my house. I will now spend the rest of the night and all day tomorrow getting ready for about 35 people. Joy.

One of my advisees had emergency surgery yesterday to remove a brain tumor, which was unfortunately not benign. After he recovers from the surgery in 2-3 weeks they'll begin the chemo and radiation. While I'm close to all 13 of my advisees this student and I have a particularly close bond, in fact I'm pretty tight with the whole family. I'm struggling with this. As I stopped to gather myself two pictures of him randomly came on to my AppleTV screensaver (which feeds from the schools flicker account). Both show him as he normally is: full of joy and good spirit. I can't wait for me to see him like that again.

I lead a pretty open digital lives these days and so dealing with this privately, as the family wishes for only a few to know now and instead for most to find out in person on Monday when school resumes, has no doubt increased the isolation.
