    1. It will be an increase in pay, but no where near a sales manager should be making, it's why my boss is leaving.
  2. If I am not promoted and they bring someone else in, I am going to walk..find a new job.
    1. I basically act as the sales manager 80% of the time as I handle all of the other account managers and the SEs and alleviate all the headaches.
    2. The only thing I don't do is sit in on management meetings but I am given the run down after they happen.
    3. Bringing someone in to me tells me they don't want me there.
So...looks like I prep the resume this weekend....

Aaargh. Maybe you can get them to get the pay closer to what a sales manager should be making by threatening to leave yourself? You'll have them over-the-barrel eh?

I definitely will have them over the barrel, and I hope to take total advantage of it.

Bout to buy a 7-game Pacers package for ~$90. Can't pass that up, it's only about a 2 hour drive.

Damn, that's cheap. I never saw a Pacers game when I was there but I saw a couple of Big 10 tournament games and enjoyed the arena

I saw them play the Celtics there in Feb. '12. For one game it was like $40. Granted, these are nose bleeds, but for about $15 a game getting to see the Heat, Clips, Bulls, Thunder, Warriors, Nets & Magic (only blech game) live is worth it.

I tried to use Tapatalk to access here yesterday and every thread that was super-long (like this one) made it say "Connection Error" and it couldn't load the new stuff.

But now it's marked everything read. So I've probably missed a bunch. :\ Guess I'm going to use Safari to read FOFC.

HAHA Agreed.
I think sales metrics as a whole are pretty worthless.

Based on your post you will love this story. When I had my business I hired a 3rd party marketing company. During a meeting with their owner and my account person I was talking about expanding and growth and new people we had brought on, etc as it specifically related to one area of our business and an area that they specifically had developed a nice campaign for.

I explained to the person that our lead convergence rate was around 28% and we were through putting I want to say 200 new accounts a month..and we needed to step that up to around 250 new accounts a month so we might have to expand our target area. Her response was priceless, "Well we could expand the area, I suppose, but I think we would be better off if we just eliminated this one customer qualifier you have, if we did that it would increase our target audience by 3 fold and you'd have all the business you could handle"

The problem of course....the requirement was an absolute necessity (at the time) to even be able to install the product.... she could understand. She insisted "the numbers will still work and you wil still convert 25-30% and you will convert more of the good leads by throughputting more of these "unqualified leads"

Without me asking I had a new account manager the next month

If there's anything the FOFC would find unlikely, it might be the notion of anyone managing to stay married to me for 20 years. But, whaddya know ...

Kwame Kilpatrick murdered what little hope was left in the city of Detroit. His career as mayor failed so spectacularly it led to his mother's ouster from office and left him in federal prison.

He's still more popular in Detroit than Matt Millen. People in Detroit hate Millen so much even panhandlers won't talk to him.

Just read that on FO and couldn't stop laughing. Still cringe every time I hear or see Millen on TV. Have to wonder what kind of deal he brokered with Satan to still be in the public eye; as in, a position to be listened to and respected in regards to football.

I actually found myself longing to be a real Facebook or twitter user today. Just so I could publicly complain about my wife making me wait in line for gas at Costco. This isn't 1972 for God's sake, you don't have to wait in a line for gas.

Was watching one of those Ford "Eco-Boost" commercials yesterday during football. Couple is driving one of their SUVs, talking about how they get good power AND great gas mileage, which is much better than good power OR great gas mileage, which would be like playing hide OR seek. That part was cute, but of course the tiny print comes up at the bottom:

16 city / 22 highway / 18 average

And that's considered great gas mileage? My 95 Explorer did better than that!

When your wife asks you to log in to a videoconference that she has set up for the next morning in order to help her test it and the kids are already in bed, is there ANY acceptable response besides exposing yourself the moment your webcam engages???

Nope, I couldn't think of one either.

We are going to look back at the time period we thought we could educate kids by sticking them in front of a computer to take online classes and learn at their own pace with profound regret. The only question will be how many years will it take before we figure it out.

The DirecTV Guide summary for the 1962 movie State Fair: A brother and sister find romance and good clean fun at the state fair in Dallas.

I guess they really do do things differently in Texas.

I work with people who regularly complain because the Tentative Nine Year Academic Calendar is tentative. I didn't realize people plan their vacations so far in advance.

I'm taking an online CPR/First Aid course through the Red Cross right now, and I can't agree with this more. It's about as well-done as I've seen an online course done, and it's still a piece of shit.all of it goes into short term memory to pass the unit assessment, then gets filed away with last week's grocery list -- at least for me.

When I took the traditional classes, I came out of them feeling like I'd learned something, and like I'd acquired skills I could actually use. Part of that was watching other people try and fail to execute the skills in the same way I would have if I'd gone first. I'm hoping the face-to-face skills demonstration portion will make up for the lack, but I doubt it.

Mostly, it's turned the sense of "I can do that" into "I read something about that once." I'm sure it makes it easier to get people certified and pumps up the numbers, but I'm not sure it says anything about how well-trained those people are.

That said, if I had to do this training annually or something for my job, I might feel differently about its utility.

How do you do an online CPR course? That seems like one of the worst examples for an online course: you have to actually perform CPR on a dummy, don't you?

My online-only machine learning class was pretty good, but it involved actual machine learning programming, with tests and homework that were graded. Not much different from the programming classes I took in college, except that I got to take it on my own schedule.

The online portion just handles all of the classroom pieces (how do you treat hypothermia? How do you tell if someone has heat exhaustion vs. heat stroke, how do you recognize a medical emergency and what steps do you follow to give care, how many compressions and at what rate, etc.)

I still have to go in and demonstrate all the skills on a dummy. It's designed to turn an eight hour course into a 2.5 hour course. I'm just not convinced it's as effective for long-term retention with what theoretically amounts to rarely-used skills.

In all likelihood, it won't ever matter, anyway. But if I'm the one who needs CPR, I'm hoping the trained rescuer was a better online learner than I am.
