The last captain to touch the trophy was Daniel Alfredsson a couple of years ago. I don't think he picked it up and skated around with it. Jarome Iginla touched it a couple of years before that, and I don't think he skated around with it either.

So if my memory serves me correctly, the last captain to pick up the conference championship trophy and actually skate it around the ice was Scott Stevens in 2003. The Devils won the Cup that year.

Heck, Jonathan Ericsson, who has been on Detroit's top defense pairing in a lot of games this post season, didn't have a regular place in the lineup for the same reasons.

They'll both be there next year for sure.

Does the cap problem go away in the playoffs?

Yep. Salaries of players who play for your team in the playoffs don't count against the cap.

Just too young of a team for the Hawks this year. But things are looking better than they have for a long time. It was a nice season and I can't wait until next year.

Go Pens

Why doesn't the NHL.com Shop allow you to customize any player t-shirt? When I visit MLB.com, I can create a player shirt with the name and number of any player on the team's 40 man roster with one click, why doesn't the NHL do this? If I want a David Krejci or Darren Helm shirt, I can't get one. Grr.

I think it's great that Pumpy posted a pick of his favorite player...Colin White!

I have no idea what you're talking about. I can only clearly pick out two players in that picture. Scott Stevens is obvious, but I also see Jay Pandolfo over on the left. Not sure who the guy with the beard behind Stevens is. Maybe Mike Rupp? And then there's the dude on the far left next to Pandolfo. Dunno who that is at all. He looks short like Brian Gionta, but I don't think it's him. MAYBE Jiri Bicek?

But yeah, I don't see any other players in that picture at all.

Not much to say with such a long wait between games. Of course, if you ask Mike Babcock, he'd say the wait wasn't nearly long enough. I'm only picking on Babs because I heard a sound bite of him complaining about the "quick turnaround." For all I know, other coaches or players were just as unhappy.

Anyway, yeah, game time in an hour!

Quick prediction (just in time...got home from vacation 2 hours ago)

I had games 3 and 6 at the Igloo last season, so I went 1-1 in those.

I have games 3 and 6 again this season. Because I am greedy, I want to see the Pens raise it this time, and at home.

Pens in 6

(my head says this goes 7 games, but that means I don't see it live)

Undermanned, out shot, and the Wings still win 3-1. Wings should only get healthier, so Crosby is gonna need more than two shots on goal if they want to win this.

Hate to say it but tomorrow is a must win game 2 for the Pens. If they can't get either of these with Dats probably not going tomorrow then they're cooked.

I just don't see how the Pens win this series. If they don't get scoring from guys not named Crosby/Malkin and win some faceoffs, this series may go 4 or 5.

Damn the Wings look good again, just like in 1998...

GO WINGS!!!!

I was just reading that Crosby still lives with Lemieux... what's that about? I mean, it made sense when he was a rookie, but I assumed he moved out at some point over the last 3 years. What is a 4 year vet, millionaire all-star, doing living in his boss' basement?

Dola.

Like I read someone say (maybe in that article), Crosby's a captain. I can't imagine a guy like Yzerman or Lidstrom doing something so stupid. "Oh no!! That mean man is trash-talking!!! I better hit him to show him how tough I am!!!".

He's a dink.

Bah, while I often agree that Crosby has too much 'little bitch' syndrome, calling him out for that 'whack' is a bit ridiculous. Good grief.

Can you imagine Iginla or Mike Richards doing that? Because I can.

I know the consensus opinion of people across the internet (like the comments in you link) are pretty convincing he's a "turd" and a "dink". Those GMs who consistently choose him as the player they'd build their team around don't know shit.

To be fair, 52% of his colleagues also voted him the leagues whiniest player.

Crosby is awesome, and I agree, that little skate tap should be a non-issue. But he does still have a ways to go in growing up (which maybe isn't helped by still living with his boss?). He has improved though.

My beef with Crosby and the skate tap is what does it accomplish? Maltby has won 4 cups and has been in the league 12 seasons. It's not going to throw he or any Wing off their game in Game 2, it was just stupid.

That said you can't compare him to Lidstrom or Yzerman as a leader because he isn't even as old as those two have played in the NHL give or take a few years. He'll mature but I do think he should be a little ahead of where he seems to be now.

Isn't he the guy who punched a guy in the nuts from behind during a fight that he wasn't even part of from the start?

Yes, but I'm missing your point. How does that relate to this stupid little skate tap?

This. All the internet 'Cindy sucks' by people who had accomplished 1/100th of what he did at the age of 18 is just classic.

Gretzky was a whiner too. Lemieux was seen as a prima donna.

No matter what Crosby does, he can never be right. I actually thought he was more candid than usual in answering the questions about it afterwards. In the past, he was accused of giving a canned answer, and that wasn't good enough. Now he showed some emotion, said what he felt, and that's wrong too.

Although Stevie was playing was playing at 18 as well. He was named captain at age 22, correct?

Not playoff news, but Hull and Les Jackson out as co-GMs in Dallas, Joe Nieuwendyk in.

It meant nothing, but intentional offsides? Really?

Crosby threw that rink wide pass to Malkin with 4 seconds left...Malkin bobbles it, skates in. How you call it there, but it gets called about 3 times all season when guys regularly skate around for 3-4 seconds before deciding to tag up...I just can't grasp that.

Again, I know it will never happen, but this is a situation I'd love to see a spot on NHL network where they get the director of officiating (similar to NFLN with Mike Perreira) and explain WHY that was called there.

It is Eddie O, but I feel slightly vindicated by hearing him say 'subtle interference' about six time through 2 periods. And the video of Kronwall was classic.

Well so far one thing can be said, the refs are pretty abysmal both ways, but it's consistent and they're letting them play.

If the Pens don't score in the first 10 minutes, this game is over... The Wings are so tight defensively.
