2 more in the BAD column
* I finally figured out how to call audible and send players in motion in game - wow talk about crappy UI. Why did they re-invent things that pretty much were already good in Madden?!?!?! * I have played out 90% of my practices and NEVER had an injury - the 10% I have simmed have produced 3-4 injuries every time. |

18 Hours - 18 actual real world, real life hours I have spent playing (the game in the save section keeps track) and I am finally about to play my first game.

I'm closing in on 18 hours and I'm still two weeks away from the draft. Granteed, I've left it on a few times as I am the master of the "walk away and leave it."
So far, I'm limiting myself to signing just one player per UFA session. I also will only sign a player once I have scouted him as well as the others that interested me in his position group. The problem, is that the CPU is not signing anyone! How do we see this? When do they start signing UFAs? |

kickers and punters?
anyone else figured out to get the K and P at the top or even off the bottom of their range? all the other players ranges are impacted by practice - but I can't seem to do anything with the kickers. |

You know, I played this game for something like 5 or 6 hours(not nearly as carefully as some others apparently, got through two pre-season games). That makes it sound like it's super-addictive or something. It's a little addictive, but the main thing is it just takes sooooo looong to do anything.
I suppose the whole 'day' system, constraining your ability to do tasks via time, is supposed to build immersion, but really it just makes things that should be fun really tedious. Things like two depth-chart ajustments a day is the most absurd example. And the scouting system, where you have to wait for the one day a week you can scout and then individually scout a few players, has basically made me give up on trading. I don't care about about that shit to go through the pain of scouting, so I don't have much information, other then foreknowledge of players in the NFL, to make trades. To be honest, I had more fun playing the career mode in Blitz: The League. |

one big plus - in madden, even in coach mode - you could take mid level players and get them to perform like Pro Bowlers.
In every Madden league I had Alex Smith became a star and fairly early in his career. in this game, star players perform like stars, and scrubs perform like scrubs - I really like that. It makes the GM portion more important. |

I found out that you should not use the back space button in practice, because if you press it one time too many, the interface disappears and you are stuck watching guys stand on the field. Forever.
It's almost impossible for me to get my DLs up to speed because my OL is generally better. I ran Sullivan (this is the Saints and Sullivan is a coach's nightmare..) ten times against the two worst linemen in one on ones, and while those linemen are bad, and he beat them sometimes, he didn't get any better. I had tried it three reps before, so it didn't matter light load or heavy, he doesn't get better. But this might be a feature since the real Sullivan is unmotivatable. I also have a hard time getting the FB up to speed, but can do it in the one on ones. The QB is up and down like a yoyo.. If you sim forward after you have met your goals, you will lose your chance t get more money plays, but working the money plays makes folks go up and down in stats. That's going to take good "aim" to get right. Edit -- wha happen to my formatting? Answer, noscript running on page.. Last edited by dbd1963 : 06-23-2006 at 05:45 PM. Reason: Formating |

Glad to see that I am not the only one with the interception problem. I am playing Carolina, and Jake Delome certainly isn't the best QB in the world, but 6 ints per game so for is a bit much. Especially when 4 have gone back for 6 the other way.
I am the same as everybody else, game is fun to play (although I don't know how much more I will play it), but has serious issues with the UI and other posted problems. One quick question, does anybody know if there is a button to challenge the play? You can see the two challenges on the scoreboard, and I have seen the booth challenge a fumble that was overturned to my favor in the last two minutes of the game, but I can't seem to see any documentation on calling a challenge myself. Anybody found this?

What menu, the only way I know to call a time out is hitting "t".
This isn't like madden.

There is a menu for challenges, timeout, and replay (the game continues during replay, you are looking to see if you'll challenge).

Based upon the research over at football-freaks, I discovered a way to modify the length of the quarters in game. Currently, I had to hard code my franchise file to do it, but I will throw together a utility to make this more possible here in a little bit.
A taste: Can a few of you PM me a link to a zip that contains your career file? I want to make sure the utility is compatible with as many as possible. Chris W. |

Awesome. Do you think you'll be able to modify the frequency of interceptions as well?
Also, is there any email that we can send the zip to? If not, I can host my file, I just can't do it tonight. |

For anyone who wants to try the "inferior" console versions of the game...your local Lackluster video should have it sometime next week. I know I wanna rent it and I'm glad it's coming in there. Anyone else's video stores have them in for rent yet?

Made decent progress on the utility. I should have it to where you can modify the quarter length, accelerated clock, and cpu/human interception slider tomorrow night.
I'll keep you guys posted. |

I agree wtih all the problems that have been brought up in this thread, but in spite of that, I have enjoyed playing this game more than any other in recent memory. There are bugs, and there are things I don't even understand (like how to make a convincing play or what plays to decide to run a given week) but I LOVE it. The fact that you don't have enough time to do everything you wish you could do works. And the fact that your owner gives you goals that you have to complete, and that your coaches and coordinators give you advice, none of which is guaranteed to be good for you, is a good thing, not a bad thing. That's part of what makes this a challenge.
And it was just cool that I couldn't motivate Sullivan to do anything no matter what I tried. That's the way the real Sullivan is. As it turns out, he's a gamer though. (That's not quite realistic). Over two pre-season games he's blossomed up toward his max. And players going up and down in their performance feels realistic. I've won both preseason games in blowouts, though, so I wonder if the game is hard enough as it is. It might be that I've gotten lucky in my opponents. But since I only have four days until my next game, and most of my players shot down to the bottom of their ranges after this last game, and I only have TWO drills before the next one.. I hope my team gets the crap kicked out of them or I'll start being as disappointed as everyone else. But I'm still enjoying this. It helps that I haven't seen the inteception problem.. |

I don't know if I like the game.
6 hours into it, and I have yet to hit training camp...it's a little tedious here, however the trade AI has been decent with me. I will play the game a bit more later on today.

BTW, cwilloughby, thank you so much for your work on getting this utility ready. I haven't played the game since the first night I had it (been busy with other things), but I'm looking forward to trying different settings through your utility.

Ok, practice really does count. My team, with the exception of Joe Horn (who had practiced up to the top of his range), was horrible. Joe, however, was unstoppable.
I think the concepts here are good ones. There are things to hate about how it has turned out, but I'm having a blast. I mean, I just got pasted by the Colts 27-0 and I loved it. I can't stand losing like that in Madden. This game has to be doing something right. Now we'll see if the flaws get to the point that they overcome the good points, or whether the flaws can be ironed out one by one as the modders do their work.. |

If this utility works as well as it seems it will I might actually consider this game.
dbd1963's comments are encouraging for me. I don't need the game to be perfect. And, given that this is a graphics game and not all text, I give it more leeway. I'm more willing to play with more house rules if it means I get to see my guys acting everything out in 3D on the screen.
