Brilliant strategy by Texas not to call a timeout after WV made the 3. I'm sure they figured they could get a quick inbounds and get the ball to Aldridge or Tucker for an easy layup at the other end, hoping to catch WV celebrating and not getting back on D. I'm pretty sure a 3 by Paulino wasn't what they talked about in the final huddle.

Hats off to West Virginia. Both of the games this season between the two teams were incredible. They play an incredibly frustrating to defend system, and they play to damn near perfection. The closest I can think of to compare it to on a frustration level was Princeton when they ran the backdoor screen so well a few years ago.

Do you guys think Pittsnogle or Gansey can make it in the NBA?

I think they could both have a shot, if they can get to the right teams. Pittsnogle can be like a Matt Bullard, bench-player type, I think. Gansey is a little bit harder to project, since there are so many SG/SF/athlete types like him. But, he seems to be a hard worker and a good defensive player, so he could have a chance. |

That couldn't have gone much worse for Gonzaga.
Terrible shot and a foul that stops the clock. Last edited by Swaggs : 03-23-2006 at 11:38 PM. |

UCLA is making an incredible comeback. Gonzaga has led this whole game. Timeout with 40 seconds left and Zags up by 3

By the way, Murray State coach Mick Cronin takes over at Cincy. He is the guy that looks like figureskater Scott Hamil, if I remember correctly.
And, Cincy interim-coach Andy Kennedy takes over at Ole Miss. |

Gonzaga's got nobody but themselves to blame on that one. They had the game in hand even with the UCLA run until doofus there let the ball get smacked out of his hands.

x2 Wow, what a night for basketball. I also showed my wife that Circuit City has no interest until 2009 and with a little mathematics, we're going to look at entertainment systems tomorrow since our current one will not accomodate the new Sony 50" SXRD. Seeing the National Championship in HD, priceless. |

You know, I normally think it's great to see these kids showing emotion in these big games, win or lose. Batista's in tears, and I can understand it. For some reason, though, Adam Morrison just looked like a total bitch, particularly when he started crying with 2 seconds still left in the game.
Three of the four games tonight had pretty good endings (my Louisiana roots made the LSU-Duke ending seem a bit more exciting than it was). Of course Memphis rolled over an overmatched Bradley team, but the other games were terrific at the end.

I'm not sure I can ever remember a guy CRYING on the court during the game while his team still had a (remote) chance to win. Lordy. Couple that with all the forced misses in clutch time and I have to think red flags are flying up everywhere over Morrison as far as the NBA is concerned. That just hurt to watch.
As for Gonzaga, I'm done with them. I'm a big fan of the mid majors but we need to find a new king of the mids -- Few is just not a very good game coach and his teams have always been soft. He's done a great job recruiting top talent there but they've never had a team to equal the '99 team coached by Dan Monson, which could have very legitimately won the national title. It's not a surprise at all that the Zags folded like a cheap suit down the stretch. And what are they doing on that last play? Wasn't Raivio the 92%!!!! FT shooter standing all by himself two feet away? And the guy just holds the ball like a moron and gets it knocked away. Just an embarrassment and frankly painful to watch a team unravel that badly even if you had no rooting interest. Yikes. UCLA did get hosed badly on that non-basket blocking call though, and they played great down the stretch and deserved the win. UCLA/Memphis is a marquee matchup. |

I completely agree with my fellow UNO fan LloydLungs here. Completely.
Maybe the next great mid-major will come from the Sun Belt?

I wish! The Sun Belt is looking pretty weak next year, though. Pretty much everybody lost a lot of talent to graduation. Except for UNO! I'd keep an eye on George Mason though. They remind me somewhat of the '99 Zags. Should be a good one tomorrow with WSU. |

I love DIgger Phelps. He keeps saying that Ben Howland \has brought the Big East/Eastcoast toughness to UCLA.
Right Digger. Go look at his bio. Born in Oregon, grew up in SoCal. JC in Santa Barbara. School at Weber State. Coaching at Gonzaga. Coaching at Santa Barbara. Coaching at Northern Arizona. Coaching at Pitt (4 years). Coaching at UCLA. 4 years on the East coast, and he's an East coast guy? Idiot. |
