No Formal offer from anyone yet, but they do know that the competition has been calling and that my name is out in the industry here as aggressive and successful so that is the win for me.

There are other reasons internally as to why a formal offer for a better comp plan hasn't been extended yet and I know why and I am fine with that. I have challenged 2 non competes and won both times, but that was in Utah. NY scares me a little more.

So, when the interviewer forgets your appointment, then cancels the meeting and "will call you to reschedule" that is usually a bad sign, right?

Yeah. I will say, though, they did tell me he had a death in the family this week. I'm going to try to stay positive, but it still sort of stunk of bad news.

It's not what you want to hear, but at least there seems to be a good reason. Don't fret, but don't slip off their radar either.

The job I just got came with some bad news initially - the position I interviewed for didn't go through. I figured it was dead, but soon thereafter I was asked to interview for a different position and got it.

This is almost exactly how I ended up in my current job.

I interviewed for a Unix admin position as a contract/consultant. Ended up discussing my cisco router experience (not too much but apparently enough) for less than five minutes and a few weeks later I got a firm offer to join the company.

Ok, so maybe it wasn't that bad. He did call me back, and I start Monday. Crazy.

Few things can instantly transport you back in time and flood your head with memories the way being on your college campus can. Fifteen years later, there is still nothing quite like Miami University's campus for me.

Speaking of college, my son is off to Wake Forest today to take a summer class.

He's 13.

So my folks are moving in a few weeks. Boxed up a bunch of old stuff of mine that they had me come over to collect. Found quite a few awesome tidbits in there, including two board games and....my SNES. Booyah.

At the restaurant I work at, we get our checks biweekly on Friday. I put it in my apron and left it under our work station, which I usually do, and went on vacation for the weekend. Back at work today, I noticed the envelope to my check had been torn open. I didn't do this, so someone had to have gotten nosy. The check was still there, but obviously I'm pissed about it. Total violation of privacy, and I'm pretty sure it's illegal. Not sure if there is anything I can do about it, though... thoughts?

Hmm ... trying to figure out what crime would have been committed by opening it. If it was handed to you rather than mailed, that seems to eliminate the obvious "tampering with the mail" type stuff.

Honestly, I think I'd count my blessings the check didn't disappear & maybe avoid leaving it lying around in the future. While this doesn't excuse the nosy SOB who opened it, leaving it somewhere someone could get to it in the first place seems like a "WTH were you thinking" deal to me.

I just got my first virus on a home PC in years. Can't remember the last time. It was a particularly nasty one. It put up some lame cyber crime warning - complete with a picture of me from my own laptop camera, which locked me out of my computer.

Thankfully, I was able to find a way to wipe it clean.

Very irritating, but nice to be able to fix it on my own.

So I'm watching an episode of Designing Women from 1988 and Delta Burke wont let Mesach Taylor sleep in the same hotel room as her even though there's a blizzard outside. And he's all like "I don't like it but I understand". I mean jesus, it was 1988.

Delta Burke is hot.

For a show created by two progressive liberals, it may be the whitest show ever.

The episode I watched was from season two. They were already making fat jokes in the episode even though she was FINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEE. I can see where she developed an anxiety about it.

I managed to get a forwarded email chain, including several backs and forth with each party, to come full circle. Through 6 people, back to the original person who sent me to talk to someone else.

Why did Vivid insist on putting so many men in drag in their movies in the mid/late 90's? Why was their so much comedy in porn in the early days?

There's just too many great games out there to play. I used to buy them all and barely play any of them. Now, I can't decide which one to buy and enjoy. I think I've settled on the Last of Us.

Legions of NASCAR fans have done that for years. Some of my fondest memories of the sport are actually radio based, listening to Pearson (yay) battle Petty (boo) on a Sunday afternoon in the car as a kid.

My last day at a previous job, I showed up two and a half hours late wearing a 3-piece suit & casually drinking a large Starbucks. I didn't even turn the computer on... just walked around & talked to people. If someone took a break, I was there. Spent a lot of time outside. Late in the day I walked into the break room as everybody was leaving except one woman who was always really nice, and kinda cute. I walked up to her and put my arms around her as I said "You know, I think out of everybody here I am going to miss you the most." I then puckered up and went for a kiss, fully expecting her to bust out laughing and call me crazy. I was shocked that she responded by kissing back... a full french kiss. There we stood in the break room, making out. THAT was a great last day!

Well, I WOULD have shown up late, except we had a major storm last night. The power in my house is still off. So without anything else to do, I came to work early. First one in at 7AM.

But I'm pretty much done. I've had my one customer call today and that should be it. I'll take lunch in a couple of hours, come back, turn in my final time sheet and walk.

I won't be making out with anyone, though. My wife wouldn't appreciate that.

I bowled a 276 last night. 7 strikes to open, 8/ in the 8th, three more strikes and an 8 on my last ball. My previous all-time best was 246.

I was there with my good buddy, and we had a fun talk afterward about knowing what it must be like being near someone throwing a no-hitter. We had bowled 7 games prior to the big one, and I had opened three of them with a Turkey. By the fourth frame, my buddy started to get antsy, and I was doing everything I could to remain nonchalant as of the fifth. My friend, unbeknownst to me at the time, would stand back at the counters behind the lane as I got set and bowled, leaning way down and focusing. As soon as the strike hit, he'd stand up straight as if it were no big deal, give me the same high five every time and say "nice shot." But those were literally the only words he spoke to me until I missed on the 8th frame. I kept trying to be casual - "Damn, did you see that little kid? He almost picked up that 3-8-9-10!" Or "How about that single up the middle by Blanco?!!?" But he didn't know how to react, so he just nodded and threw his ball as quickly as he could, trying to get me back on the lane as fast as possible.

I was approached by some of the employees after the fact, they congratulated me, told me they were jealous and then poked fun at me for not being excited enough about it.

Even a day after its a little surreal that it happened - and it makes me really, really appreciate how tough a feat a 300 game is. I threw only two non-strike balls, and it still feels like I was miles away from a perfect game.

Way to go, Vince, that's awesome.

One time, I chipped from about 15 feet out, caught a nice cut on a break, and rolled the ball right into the hole...

Yeah, I got nothing.
