Ruutu will be suspended for that. Marc Savard did something similar a while back and was suspended for 2 games.

But how does Rutuu not get a penalty? At least both should get a penalty.

Mistake by the refs. If it was caught on video, the league will get him.

Pretty physical first period. Sabres up 2-0. Both teams look like they want to kill each other.

Just to be clear, though, on the Ottawa Senators cheap shot suspension list it's still Groin-Kicking 2, Biting 1.

This loss will certainly give the Sens something to chew on.

As expected, the switch back to Paul Maurice has made Carolina much more defensive than they used to be. Remarkably enough, it seems to be working as they're now 9-4-2 since the switch. Carolina beat New Jersey at home tonight for their longest winning streak so far this year at four games. Alas, they're stuck in the division with probably the hottest team going right now in Washington, so they're not really gaining any ground on them, but for now they're in the thick of things in the East and that's about all that can be asked for given how the season has gone so far, I think.

Good news for Pens fans is that they won last night...bad news is that Ruslan Fedotenko broke his hand on Colby Armstrong's nose.

Man, you guys should totally find a rebuilding team and trade them a bunch of good prospects for some NHL talent.

Cough.

I'd love for Howson to swing a deal for Antro and Kubina, but I don't see Kubina waving his NTC nor do I really care for his contract. Also, I wouldn't want to give up Filatov, Voracek, ect..

Possibly 1st+Goubalef+?????+Backman's expiring contract for Antro and Kubina

You're right about Kubina (and Kaberle) waiving their NTCs. Both may be willing to waive since they won't have any NTC-protection in the summer, but I don't see them doing so to go to Columbus.

BTW...Leafs just traded for Brad May.

I sadly agree I would just love a RH shot on the PP to help. Hitch has made comments that teams definitely adjusted to this (plus our LH shots have no slap shot) and I'm sure is one reason that our PP is 30th.

Our only RH is Commodore, but he's been impressive this year, actually living up to that all that money he was makin' rain . Here's a shocking stat:

Defensive P at Even Strength:
T1 Shea Weber 18
T1 Commodore 18
3 Rafalski 17
4 Duncan Keith 16
5 Markov 15

It is interesting to see the stories coming out about how Avery is a jerk on and off the ice. I never bought the spin that he was only an ass on the ice and a perfect gentleman, nice guy, and great teammate off the ice. It just did not add up to me, given the actions and comments he has made over the years.

Sundin returns tonight.

Will be fun to watch him take a cross-ice pass, stare into an open net, then spend six months deciding whether or not to shoot.

And Dupuis left with an injury in the 2nd.

So, the wingers left on the roster:

Sykora, Satan, Kennedy, Cooke, Talbot (C playing wing), Godard, Tim Wallce. Which means we get to bring up Chris Minard again.

Of that group, Sykora would be in the top 6 on most teams. That is it.

Last night in Nashville, the Avalanche we're missing 5 of the 6 players who started the season with them capable of playing center (Sakic, Stastny, Laperriere, McCormick and Guite). And the one remaining center is Tyler Arnason, who doesn't really count.

Boohoo for injuries.

Missing Selanne, Perry (suspension), Beauchemin, and Huskins, and Jiggy has been in and out of the lineup all year. Meh...most teams are dealing with injuries (although, yeah, some of these teams are really taking a hit right now).

Amazingly enough, once the Oilers were trailing the Canucks last night, MacT made a couple line moves that actually managed tot decrease the offensive potential of 3 out of his 4 forward lines.

Surprise, surprise, no comeback ensued.

I really hope they make a trade soon as apparently the official word is that they'll make a deal before considering firing MacT. It'll be nice when hurdle one is out of the way.

Wasn't at the game and wouldn't have done any booing myself, but I'm assuming it was for how he handled his "comeback" and the fact that he signed with a division rival. I don't listen to much sports talk radio anymore so didn't hear anything on the way into work this morning on the subject though so anything I say is pure speculation.

Better than signing Horcoff to a 4 year, $26 million extension like the Oilers did prior to this season.

le sigh.

If I was a Pens fan I would be pretty happy with that deal. $4 million a year for the next four years is a pretty good deal for Staal.

It's also not bad from Staal's perspective. He's getting well paid and if he continues to develop he'll be in line for a massive pay day when he's still only 24 or 25.

Wow, Craig Hartsburg just threw Alfredsson and Spezza under the bus, hit the gas, and then backed over them a few times.

Basically said that the third-liners are playing their hearts out, but the star players cost the team the game and "it's not the first time".

Sounds like he already knows he's fired.

I cant get enough of this type of stuff. It's gold!

"I think [Sergei Kostitsyn] is not Belarussian now, he is French because I never fight with Belarussian guys," Grabovski said. "I don't know why he wants to fight with me. If he wants to fight, we'll go in the street and every minute of every day I'll wait for him and we'll fight."
