+1....er +2? Why does it seem that everything that is going on in the neutral zone, all the calls so far have been within 5 feet of the net?

Worst part is the ref out in the neutral zone is making these calls at the net. It's insane. But regardless of all that, Fleury is in Godmode. |

I actually thought they were going to call Dupuis for knee-on-knee when Helm was trying to stay onside earlier. And that probably would have come from the other end of the ice.

The only thing to make this better right now would be if it was a game 7.

Let me tell you... I follow the regular season with very little interest, and I watched the Pens in the playoffs because i am a Crosby fanboy... But god damn... This shit is AWESOME

Again, both calls in that OT, feet from the net. Center ice-- go ahead and tackle someone, it's not getting called.

What is the latest a Cup winning goal was scored? I recall Uwe Krupp for Colorado in I think triple OT vs. Florida. Was there a later goal?

I'm glad I took a 90-minute nap after I got home tonight. Still, I'm going to be falling asleep in meetings at work tomorrow. Great game.

Wasn't Brett Hull's "No Goal" Cup Clincher scored in the third OT?

My quick research has Brett Hull at 14:51 of the third OT, Krupp's was 4:31 of OT #3. The longest finals game ever was 15:31; the infamous Petr Klima game.

Well, I already left a message with my boss. No chance I am going to work tomorrow. Even if this game ends in ten minutes, a loss and the adrenaline is kicking and I won't fall asleep, and if the Wings win, I'll be up for the festivities.
It's a no win. |

Fleury has done everything but turn water into wine and resurrect the dead in OT

Now that is a good call. I cannot see Detroit being able to hold up on a 4 minute PK.

35 seconds from the cup and now going to Pittsburgh for game 6. This could be a huge momentum swing.

I am still not too worried. Perhaps I should be, but Fleury's play probably isn't going to be topped and Detroit is still dominating the games.

I normally don't get hyped for hockey, but damn, that was a crazy series of overtimes. Fluery played like a beast, I thought detroit was going to score a bunch of times in the overtime.
I didn't get home until midway through the first OT. |

I think the ratings should get a very nice jump.
Nothing like the excitement of the end and overtime of playoff hockey. Even the Super Bowl in overtime isn't as exciting. Last edited by Galaxy : 06-02-2008 at 11:49 PM. |

I think Mario Lemieux should turn his wife over to Fleury for at least a month. He and the Penguins owe that kid bigtime.

So we got to go back to Pittsburgh to win it? Dammit...
Although it was kinda funny to hear the NBC coverage after the game when they show the replay of Fleury's reaction... and you clearly hear "fuckin' right!" |

What is up with Malkin? I haven't seen him play much, but when I do see him he looks slow and lazy. I remember a World Juniors game that you couldn't even tell he was on the ice. This series he's noticeable be cause he comes in over the blue line and immediately looks for a Red Wing to pass to. At least he had some spark late in last night's game. Maybe he just wants to get out from under Sid's shadow by being traded to a teaam where he will be the No. 1 Centre.

He mentioned about a week ago that he's tired. And speculation he might be hurt.
Last night was game 101 for him this season. I don't know exact numbers, but I am thinking he played probably 1/2 that in the RSL.

Great game last night, poor result. The Penguins had the two best players on the ice in Fleury and Crosby. It was even more impressive in that they basically played the entire OT with only four defensemen (Sydor didn't play that much).
Ugh, so close... Hopefully the Wings can rally and pull it out in Game 6.

You gotta wonder if Malone's eye(s) swelled shut or not and his ability to play tomorrow night.

Some thoughts on last night:
- Awesome game!!!! - The first goalie interference call in OT was a good call. Can't remember who had the puck (Datsyuk?) but he could have gone around the net, but instead cut right into the crease and over top of Fleury. - The second goalie interference call in OT was a bad call. Fleury was outside the crease and the puck carrier had nowhere to go. - Don Cherry (whom I normally can't stand) has been very good these playoffs. Last night he didn't want to harass Malkin any more (he's given him the gears all series just like everyone else) but he did mention that Malkin isn't just trying to 'do too much', instead that he's 'in a fog'. I have to agree completely, the kid's head just isn't in the game. I don't understand why, but you can see it on his face and in the stupid plays he is making all over the ice. I'm almost starting to feel bad for him now, and I kind of wonder if Therien's determination to keep throwing him out there isn't making things worse. I understand Therien wants to show that he'll stand by him even when things aren't going that great, but it almost feels like he's repeatedly throwing a shell-shocked soldier back into a firefight. - I PVR'd the game and ended up about 2 hours behind the live time. I always set the recording to extend an hour past the time on the guide, but for some reason I had a hunch and about half an hour before the recording was going to end I asked the wife to just check if the game was still on but not tell me the score. She said 'yes', so I quickly added another 4 hours to the recording time. By the time I finally got to the end of the game it was 2am CST and I am officially tired this morning. - I can't wait for game 6!!

I don't know why I stayed up to watch that, because it was obvious halfway through the 1st OT that Detroit was going to lose. That was one of those classic games where one team dominates but can't score, and the other team picks its spot and wins the game. I was just hoping it would happen earlier so I wouldn't be so tired this morning.
