Hell, I'm sure South Africa is far more prepared than Athens was for the 04 Summer Olympics, 4 years prior.

South Africa will be ready. The only continent not to host a World Cup will not blow its chance and 2010 isn't exactly next week or anything. The only real issue is going to be security and also, upgrading the nation's digital TV infrastructure to broadcast it. But that'll happen. ----------------------- http://www.southafrica.info/2010/ - Official RSA World Cup Site http://mg.co.za/ - Mail & Guardian, a South African newspaper

South Africa's GDP is double that of Greece, FWIW. Their GDP per capita is half (South Africa's) but also has 4 times the population. And the budget for South Africa's World Cup is US$2bn, the largest in FIFA history.

Here's a fun one from another site I frequent. A british guy that insists on constantly talking about the English side just said:
"peter crouch is one inch taller than matthew jordan the basketball legend" I've been giggling ever since. |

In a nutshell he's an attacking midfielder, who plays pretty good in space usually out wide on the right. He's pretty good on the ball (not sure his moves will work against Italy though) and capable of getting his shot off. Edit - I should add as a strength, he's young and almost sure to inject some enthusiasm into our lackluster team. His weakness is defense. He often fails to get back and even when he does, he's not exactly known as a strong back tackler. He's also young and inexperienced at the WC level, so it's a bit of an unknown how he'll perform under the pressure. In general, if you're going for goals/offense you put him in. If you're worried about giving up goals, you leave him out. Last edited by moriarty : 06-17-2006 at 01:43 PM. |

i think it is alot easier to be ready for a world cup than an olympics..the biggest issues should be stadiums (which are most likely already there) and hotels for all the fans, plus roadways to get people around. im sure SA will be ready |

Germany spent over a BILLION euro's on it's 12 stadiums, South Africa is planning on spending a fraction of a fraction (of a fraction) of that so it might (will) not match Germany in class, but it was getting about time for Africa to host, and as always should be a great atmosphere |

I didn't need to see that before a world cup game. In HD no less.

My reaction exactly. You think the TV producers would realize we DON'T want to see that.

If the World Cup was decided on National Anthems, Italy would win every time.

If it's so huge to score first, why not have Johnson play the 1st half instead of the 2nd half?

The referee has started REALLY badly in this game - a number of wrong decisions both ways already

Watching the Italians is like watching girls on prom night. As soon as they get within 20 feet of the balls they're already thinking about going down.

Love our energy early. I just hope we don't fatigue too much later in the game. Man, Convey missed a key opportunity there.
