I mean, honestly PSU hasn't done that much. They were literally gifted 14 points and add in a 97 yard kickoff return. OSU has really outplayed PSU the entire game and to say otherwise would be a travesty. yes...I haven't quite quit on the game yet. just super annoyed at the refs. now can osu hold??? |

I dont think OOC determines how good you are. Otherwise, the SEC is garbage. Oh wait, they are.

ESPN Staff Writer There was one troublesome stat on Saquon Barkley coming into the weekend: 21.4 percent of his carries went for zero or negative yards. Ohio State's defense has gotten to him a couple of times behind the line of scrimmage today. |

As much as I dislike Meyer, it warms my heart to see that jackass Franklin and PSU go down on some terrible 4th quarter play calling

That was a much DESERVED victory for OSU.
JT Barret played if not his best, surely one of his best games of his career. Holding Barkley o 44 yards on the ground and 67 total (minus a ko return). Overcoming all those mistakes and 14 gifted points. Amazing heart. OSU was the better team last year and lost unfortunately and were the better team and tried to lose, but pulled it out. Go Bucks. Guess I'll watch a few more games... |

That was spectacular. As you said, State Penn popped the opening kickoff and had some stuff handed to them and still couldn't put the game away. It's always nice to see Franklin lose a game. |

Disappointing to lose it at the end, but Ohio State was a 7 point favorite and PSU was competitive until the end. I wonder how much tOSU coming off a bye and PSU playing a good team had an effect in the 4th quarter. The OL just could not do anything against that tOSU defensive front. They are a very talented team.
I still think PSU is in the playoff hunt. They will have to win out now, and scoreboard a little bit, but I think this loss will look at lot better in comparison to some of the other teams who have lost a game. |

Iowa and Minnesota in a shit show. Iowa leads 7-0 after a 5 play 80 yard drive, which was their first.
Iowa fans are starting the "Wait until 2019" chant.

Wonder if 1 loss Ohio St jumps 0 loss Wisconsin in the polls this week?
Pac-12 and B12 have to be hating Notre Dame being in the top 10. Big Ten is going to work itself out. They will get 1 team but odds are unless Penn St comes back strong from this they wont get 2. Last edited by jbergey22 : 10-28-2017 at 07:38 PM. |

Yeah, the rest of the season would have to be complete chaos for a B12 team to work back into the mix. Washington is also being hurt by USC not being as good as expected. They are going to need a lot of help as well. Right now as it looks Ohio St vs Wisky winner Clemson vs Miami winner Alabama Georgia Outside looking in Penn St Notre Dame Oklahoma ***in this order*** Longshots Washington TCU Last edited by jbergey22 : 10-28-2017 at 07:49 PM. |

Oklahoma is still in the picture. The Iowa State loss is much less of a joke than it was at the time and they have a double digit win AT Ohio State on their resume. Iowa State should be in the mid- to high-teens after this week.
Keep in mind that Oklahoma will still play two more top 10ish teams (TCU and Oklahoma St) and the Big 12 will have a championship game this season, so another chance for a top 15 win. Ohio St. still have some top 30ish games remaining and the title game, but they will need Penn St and Wisconsin to stay strong in order to have a better one-loss resume (unless you want to get into a really circular best-loss argument). That said, I think Oklahoma likely drops one more. I think it will be interesting to see how Miami does going forward. I suspect they will start getting the ESPN hype this week. I suspect they and Georgia will now be under the microscope that PSU and TCU have been under recently. |

Iowa state will lose again. But may still be in the champ game. Tjat would be a 3 loss team.
Oklahoma has a big hill ahead of them.

If Iowa St ends up 8-4 or 9-3, then Oklahoma's loss is not a terrible one. And, if they end up with two more losses, they probably aren't making the Big 12 championship game, so Oklahoma would have an opportunity for three more top 15 wins. Ohio St. may get one more top 15-20 opportunity (depending on how Michigan and Michigan St. play out - but, MSU getting ranked may result in the PSU win being de-valued), but their victory likely knocks them back out of the top 25. The potential Wisconsin game is obviously a huge opportunity. If they are closely ranked, one-loss, conference champion teams, it would be real hard to not take the head-to-head victory, at Ohio St. into consideration. TLDR: Oklahoma has the opportunity for more high impact wins down the stretch than Ohio St. Lots of other teams (ACC champ, Wisconsin, SEC runner up, PAC champ, Notre Dame) may make all this a moot point. The biggest problem now in the SEC is that there's only room for 56 conference wins in a season(48 unless you're beating Saban ) and the fanbases expect 75-80 wins if you poll them.

I don't know why anyone having success would ever leave Wiscy. They've got a good history, good support, and the B1G gives them a pretty clear road to the championship game most years.

On Bielema, agreed. With Gary Andersen it was a little more complex. I liked Andersen while he was here but beneath the surface there were some cultural differences that may have started a backslide. Andersen likes his jucos and tried to get some poor students past admissions which wouldn't budge. He didn't keep a strong preferred walk-on program for in-state guys which alienated a lot of coaches in WI. He wanted to put in a spread offense which Barry Alvarez was not thrilled about. Given his walking away from his buyout money at Oregon St., I think Andersen just saw something that wasn't working out long term and found a situation he was more comfortable with. Unfortunately it didn't work out for him. Bielema on the other hand is just kind of a knucklehead wanting to make his own legacy somewhere else. He needs to end up back at Iowa probably. Right, tarcone? |

fwiw, I was at Ole Miss-Arky.
That was some fugly football. Of all the shitty play, nothing will stick with me more than watching a clearly athletic QB in his first start show the least heart of any player I've ever seen. 1st and 10 at ARK 11 (11:51 - 4th) Jordan Ta'amu run for 4 yds to the Ark 7 Looks like nothing, the drive would stall out and end with a 20 yd FG to go up 37-28. Problem was Ta'amu going into a slide rather than showing ANY interest in trying to get several more yards with the goal line in his sights. I've seen abused kittens with more balls than that little chicken shit. He's got skills, zero sign of any heart whatsoever. I can't imagine that he could lead starving dogs to fresh meat.

I dont think Bielema ends up at Iowa. Looks like Brian Ferentz is our next HC.
The one thing about Wisconsin is Barry Alvarez. Whatever he is doing up there, Wiscy needs to pay him more to keep him doing it. When coaches leave Wiscy they are not nearly as successful.

Man this Florida deal might be about to get even crazier. I have a friend on the staff at Florida and chatted with him this AM. Actually we were talking about deer hunting, nothing football related but he brought it up so... Sounds like the "death threat" talk might have started around recruiting message board talk. Apparently UF 9like most programs these days) has a hired monitor with the full time job of bringing net chatter to the HC's desk. Mainly this is used for recruit evaluation most places, but lots of coaches have donkey ears as well. Anyhow...CJM apparently was set off by comments such as "drink bleach" and "go die in a fire and take Nuss with you" apparently CJM went off in a staff meeting about this and then took it to media day. Obviously the death threat thing spiraled and likely ultimately cost him his job. What's more interesting is the belief that UF is going to fire with cause for fabricating the story, and Sexton believes they have firm ground to stand on as these are wishes of death. (Sounds preposterous to me but Im no attorney)

Pretty sure they'll negotiate a settlement. Sexton represents Dan Mullen too, and it's in everyone's best interests to find some middle ground. I'd guess the talk of firing "with cause" has been negotiating tactics.

Wyoming blows out New Mexico, Josh Allen looks like a 1st rounder again and the Pokes are likely to end up in some kind of bowl this post-season. Bohl has that program turned around. Would be cool if they could recruit a few more late bloomers and end a year ranked sometime.
Rutgers didn't get shellacked in Michigan, so I guess that's program even as a bunch of Jersey kids played on that other team.

Back to back Division titles... recruiting on a major uptick Even the losses this year are "explainable" with 9 players (most of which are Muschamp recruits) suspended. This was all about not being liked by the admin and never fitting in. Very little if anything to do with W's and L's |

12-11 in his last 23 games.
4-6 in his last 10. Embarrassing loss to rival. That doesn't cut it at Florida.

I dunno if I can go that far. I mean, it ain't exactly inspiring to look at. And the AD's phrasing (make it fun again, basically) seems pretty accurate. The wins have been uninspiring & not particularly interesting for the most part, the losses have been pretty brutal. There's more to W's and L's than just the raw numbers sometimes. 4-9 vs ranked opponents (one of those ranked wins is Tennessee this season) and 8 of those 9 losses by double digits.

I don't know if I think Randy Shannon is anything more than mediocre as a major college HC but, that said, the clips of his first presser as the interim guy looked like a fine job of saying the right things.
Given the situation and the scant number of hours he's been in that role, I don't know if anybody could reasonably ask any more of the guy today. He looked like a good choice for the temp job, he sounded like a good choice for it, and these days that probably has some value.
