Widespread engineering issue appearing with the Xbox One. Complaints that the disc drives are failing. Just a quick search of YouTube will find slews of videos on the issue. Here's just a sampling, but it appears to be a bit more than just an occasional failure. There's already two reports over on Neogaf of people who had one fail, went and got a replacement and had the same thing happen with the replacement. MS support is currently telling most users that they need to clean the disc and try again.

Sony reports that most of launch failures were on shipped PS4 units. Like I mentioned before, always better to buy retail if you can with electronics. Even ship-to-store is better than home delivery. Far less chance of things getting jostled around when they're on a pallet.

I'm sure he went to such great effort to find PS4 problems as well.

It honestly didn't take that much effort at all. There's a thread in Neogaf and a thread on the Xbox One support forums.

I just included the Amazon review link because I found out on this forum that those reviews are mostly legitimate.

That's it ladies and gentleman, threads over. MBBF has called it. XBox One (more like 180, amirite?) = DED CONSOLE and the PS4 is the clear victor.

I'm surprised that you're so dismissive of the problems noted here. Wasn't that way a week ago.

Huh? Pretty sure I was dismissive of the launch issues with some PS4s being any sort of a big issue.

Aside from it sucking for people who got a defective console I haven't seen anything that would indicate it's a serious issue with the XBox One's reliability.

You can actually HEAR the cognitive dissonance. It is quite breathtaking to behold.

OK, I know what this is, but had to look it up to read more about it:

This bias appears to be particularly apparent when faced with deeply held beliefs, i.e., when a person has 'high commitment' to their attitudes.

What about "crazy, insane" commitment?

The good news is that there are apparantly still Xbox One's in stock at some local retailers. Target, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy all still have them in my area. Sounds like some of you are interested, so it's probably worth a call.

I'm sure we'll hear that the problem is less than 1% in the days to come. MS has to be kicking themselves to have a second straight launch with disc drive issues.

This has to be the least surprising announcement thus far. PS4/Vita bundle coming to the UK. I mentioned it was a natural progression a month or two ago. A bit surprised that it's so soon.

EA FINALLY fixed some of the crashes on Battlefield 4. Reports that people are finally able to play the 64 player conquest games. Can't wait to get home and try it out.

They will both be fine, it sucks for those that bought them on release day and had a problem, but that's about it IMO.

You predicted the obvious. Congrats on that.

Anyone who thought that there wouldn't be issues with either console was fooling themselves. The only difference is that MBBF did it this week as opposed to everyone else last week. I totally agree with you.

I'm sure there are some defects here and there, but I think we'll find this is largely not an issue.

MBBF: You called this a WIDESPREAD ENGINEERING ISSUE with Microsoft after saying it usually happens with a console launch re: PS4.

Sure. I've learned all those skills right here in this thread from about a week ago.

-Post links showing problems. Emphasis that they're big.
-Cite Amazon reviews showing how widespread they are despite no purchase verification system.
-Minimize the issue if it's the system you prefer.

FOFC taught me everything I know.

FWIW......As I noted, I'm sure this will just be 1% of all consoles. Sony has confirmed that most of their release malfunctions were due to shipped units. I'm sure we'll hear in a week that it's the same with the Xbox One.

Not sure what an university athletic director has to do with Sony or Microsoft, but I guess when you've got nothing, that is your place of refuge.

About as much as a masturbating post in a console thread. Once again, I learn a lot from FOFC.

mckerney, I know you did an eyeroll when I mentioned the consoles being in stock. You can use this link to verify availability. I did a search on my zip code and found 15 of 20 nearby stores that had consoles in stock. Just click on the 'find in a store' link. They're allowing local pickup if you want to buy them online. Note that this is the standard X1 and not the Day One version that had restricted quantity. Also should note that stock updates every hour, so it's not real-time.

Xbox One Standard Edition Console : Target

MizzouRah, the Gamestop in downtown STL still has 11 X1's in stock if interested.

Would be interested to see how many they started with this morning. I called one that said they had 8 to start and they sold out. Another had six and still had two left about an hour ago.
