Yesterday, I created ads for Google Ads, Bing Ads, and Twitter. I hope they'll help, we'll see! I really wish I could identify what I'm missing. And honestly, it really could just be that there isn't a sizable market for people who want this kind of approach to football, where you're the coach instead of controlling players.

I'm focusing on getting ready for Christmas now, but I've fixed two bugs, and I'm hoping to fix the weird one that causes you to sometimes kick off after a change of possession, and a few others, after Christmas.

Thanks, enjoy your day!

Dont forget to do negative keywords in your adwords campaign so you dont waste clicks.

Target your ads for those you think will buy it so (male, age [x-y], N.American, etc)

Make lots of youtube vids. Blog about it and embed videos. Link everything together.

Shoot, this is all new to me, I didn't even know there was such a thing as negative keywords. I'll read up on that. [Edit: ok, I see what you mean, so I've added "free" and "soccer" so far, thanks!!] Meanwhile, if you have any suggestions, can you either IM me here or email me at [email protected]? Thanks again!

I'm going to work on some videos, I agree. I've let that and my web site lag.

BTW, I finally updated my site some:

Also sponsored FB posts leading people to buy your game. Target NFL cities, male, 18-45. Lead people to the link that makes it easiest to buy. Post, post, post,

Hey, good news! I'm able to duplicate the timeout bug now, at least one situation. Of course, now I have to go back to my real job tomorrow, but this is a great breakthrough.

Here's where I see the timeout bug:
1) Say I have the ball 1st and 10, and I complete a short pass in bounds.
2) Now it’s 2nd and 3, and I call a timeout, and a medium pass, which is incomplete, so it’s going to be 3rd and 3.
3) The offensive screen comes up, and a popup tells me that defense called timeout - but they didn’t.

So, the key question is, did you call timeout - not on that play but on a previous play? If so, then I’ve now fixed the bug.

I know how to fix this, but it's cause by me calling a timeout on a previous play (a notification flag is set and not cleared). Everyone who's seen the bug, do you recall whether you called timeout on any play before that play (had to be the previous play or the one before that).

I've seen it called by the defense after I've scored a touchdown.. So that's a bad one

But here's the key question. On the play *before* where you scored, had you called timeout?

I have a flag, "notifyOpponentOfTimeout" and I found where if I set it on offense (by calling timeout), the AI isn't resetting it, so when the next play comes around, and I see my offensive screen, the flag is still set (by mistake, from when I set it on the previous play).

I'm hoping that you had called timeout - not on that play, but just before it (or even the play before that).

p.s. I can duplicate this over and over now, and the fix is very simple, and since it definitely is a bug, I'll publish this anyway, along with the other changes I've made. I just hope it fixes all occurrences. I should be able to submit it by the end of next weekend.

Ok, the patch is ready, and I'll test it later tonight and then release it tomorrow. The one thing missing is that I'd like to set the players ages to the correct ages, but I may defer that until the next update, just because of time.

Meanwhile, I have a question for the player management guys. I just had a very good conversation with a fellow about things to add, and we discussed player progression, etc.

If I implement the ability to trade draft picks, add training and scouting and max potential, but don't have time to implement player trades before September, how would you feel about that?

Since most people are playing this SP I would imagine that player trading can wait.

You need to start making features for the next game too though and start planning to advertise and market the game. If you dont see enough ROI you'll eventually give up on making further iterations I fear.

Oh yeah, definitely. In fact, these new features I'm discussing are for 2016, and my top priority will be to have it ready before September. Thanks.

That's weird, they're supposed to be the same price since yes, they're exactly the same. I'll check the prices but meanwhile buy the cheaper one!

Are you seeing US Dollar? How different are the prices?

Thanks and I hope you enjoy it!

Everyone, I've uploaded a new patch to Google Play and Amazon stores, and I've submitted it to the Apple Store.

Fixed timeout issue that mistakenly said AI defense had called timeout when it hadn't
Fixed bug where AI two-point attempts were from the 15 rather than the 2
Fixed issue where 18% of Screen passes were switched to Shuffle pass
Fixed issue where you couldn't give a player the last name "Rivers"
Changed wording on the Point After screen
Draftees no longer all have jersey 14, but have correct numbers for their positions

Great - looking forward to this!

I think that there may be a similar bug to the screen/short pass selection with prevent/blitz in casual mode - selecting prevent sometimes seems to result in an all out blitz!

Oh man, I didn't know that. Thanks, I'll check on it. Another player sent me an email saying that his defense gets stuck in "pass blitz" about half way through a game. Anyone else have that problem?

Thanks, Alex, I'll look for that. Pretty goofy, going from prevent to all out blitz!

Hey, a friend just pointed out to me it may be just the graphics. Do you see the actual play itself changing, or just the animation?

AlexB, I haven't been able to duplicate that bug yet. A few questions:
1) are you using the Diagram play calling or the Tabs approach?
2) Hard core or casual?
3) Career, season, or exhibition?
4) Can you verify that the actual play is changing, not just the animation?
5) When this happens, which team is in the lead?

Oh, a few more quick things
- what version of the game do you have? Tap settings, it’s on the lower right.
- did you recently update, and if so, is that when the bug started?

So, to sum up, you change your defensive call to something else, but then the AI changes it back to “Pass Blitz”, right? Do you know what happened just before that drive (a turnover, for example?)? I've just found and fixed an issue where the AI in Casual Offense kept starting you out with Hail Mary, so I'm hoping I can find and fix the defense bug tonight, too.

Thanks!

Sorry, missed this -
1 - tabs
2 - casual
3 - season
4 - will check next time I play
5 - when I think I've noticed it (#4's got me thinking now!) I've been in the lead

Based on the latest patch, but first suspected it on the previous one

Not sure what had happened beforehand.

Next time I fire it up and notice it I'll report back

GOOD NEWS, I've fixed the bug where defense is stuck in blitz! I'm able to cause it to happen, and my code change fixes it in all cases that I've been able to find (knock on wood). I'm looking into a few other bugs, then will release an update soon.

Quick question, guys, and forgive me if I've asked this before. I'm working with a fellow who just can't complete a season. He's playing single season, and his team is Minnesota. He's tried three seasons, and each time, he runs into a bug where he finishes a game one week and the game won't update the season to count his game. So he winds up having to sim the game, which sucks.

First off, do any of the rest of you play single season with a favorite team? And if so, have you run into this? If so, I'd like you to PM me any information you have.

Now, if you play single seasons (against the AI) and have never had this problem, I'd like to know that, too, because part of what I have to do is narrow this down, and if it's rare, that means I need to look for very specific situations.

I have thought of a solution that would fix broken games, but I'd sure like to be able to duplicate it so I can confirm it. So far, I can't duplicate this problem, which sucks for the customer (and for me, because I really want to get started on 2016 asap).

Thanks!

I think one of the priorities of the next version should be the ability to export (and import) a league to a file. This would make it easier to troubleshoot issues like this, and allow us to copy leagues from one device to another.

Yeah, I'd like that, too, and also to create a complete game log. The fellow who's having this problem just gave me valuable information. He said this happens only with random schedules, not with the official one, so now I can compare those two to see what's different. I hope it jumps out at me.

BTW, I'm really torn on just what to do for 2016, so I'll be posting something on that later. My top priority is, no matter what, get the game out in early August or even late July. I can always add more content after that, but I keep missing the start of the season each year, which is lame on my part.

Hey, an update for everyone. I've created a little "point spread predictor" where I can set the weather, and it runs the game x times and comes up with total number of wins and average point spreads. For the Super Bowl, I set the weather to clear (although there is a chance of rain in real life) and ran the sim 1000 times, and I was shocked at the results. In fact, I ran it another 1000 times. Maybe I need to run it 10,000 times, because the tool has Denver actually winning 51.4% of the time, by an average spread of a little over 8 points.

Interestingly, Carolina also has an average point spread over its wins of almost the same.

If true, this indicates that the teams are more evenly matched than I think (I think Carolina is more likely to win), and that it could come down to just a few plays.

Course, I have to remember, this is based on ratings from last September, and that Carolina uses Cam Newton in ways I don't have in my game (yet).

Hey, if anyone has wanted to try the game, I'm lowering the price 40% the rest of the year and now working on the 2016 version, so watch for it in August! I am submitting another patch today, which fixes a rare bug where a season game isn't completely saved, and I'm also fixing the PAT percentage.

Also, if it's ok for me to mention Steam here (if not, please let me know, and I'll remove it), for any Steam users, please consider visiting my Greenlight page and voting yes.

Steam Greenlight :: Pro Strategy Football

thanks!

p.s. I think my app was right about the Super Bowl coming down to a few plays. Those two big defensive plays by Denver made all the difference!

I'm nearly done with adding Playbooks to PSF 2016. I'm still working on what exactly will be standard features and what will be IAP, but right now, I imagine I'll provide standard playbooks for free, and later add "Advanced Playbooks" as an IAP - these would allow the user to create their own groupings and have many more playbooks (rather than just the one).

Thoughts? Do you think you'd ever use playbooks?

I will. I'd prefer that in a lot of cases rather than taking the time to set everybodys route each play. I often find myself rushing through playcalls and not taking the time to set everyone to a specific route by the end of games. I feel like my impatience cheapens the experience a bit. With playbooks i could see myself creating a nice one to use each season based on my personnel and then running with that.

I'm not sure whether I would use playbooks or not. Now I play casual mode, but playbooks might be a nice middle ground between casual mode and creating plays on the fly.

Let me think about that. Right now, the routes are in the play in the playbook, but if I have time later, maybe I'll just add a different option to save just routes for each type of play. That way, you're still in Medium Pass, for example, but can quickly check different routes. Right now, you'll be able to do that in the Playbook, but I think that might almost warrant its own setup. Thanks for bringing that up.
