I read the Ebert piece. It seems as if there's a "he said/he said" dispute in regards to the gun giveaway at the bank. The producer and Michael Moore say nothing was fabricated. The bank says the scene was set up.
Who are you going to believe, the guy with the history of misstatements or the people who look bad in the context of the movie?

Likewise, you may have seen other work by Michelangelo and have an opinion of his product. This may be enough information to reach a conclusion on what the work means to you without ever seeing, smelling, tasting, feeling, or hearing the statue.
