I agree to do the stand in any less then 3 movies would be a mistake.
They were able to do IT in a shorter length since it basicly revolved around 7 friends and 1 monster with a few other baddies. It also took place in 2 distinct times and was easy to flip back and forth. The stand spans to many places and charectures.
