If you are exceeding 250GB per month then it's probably time to seriously re-evaluate your life.

I just want to say that I wasn't bitching about the caps - I was more just amused about how they couched it as something customers asked for - although I agree that it's likely they phrased the surveys in such a way that they would be able to say that without coming right out and saying it in the survey

Everyone saying that 250Gb is sooOOOooo much obviously doesn't have a pornography habit and a Usenet account.
Sure, I may not WATCH 250gb of porn in a month, but I like to have it there, in case of emergency. |

I did make sure to specifically exclude the case of porn in one of my previous posts, so I feel that I am covered as I did list porn as one of the very few reasons someone might go over the cap |

QFT- People just don't get how much 250GB per month is. Just think- that's 3 TB per year and I doubt too many people here even have 1 TB of storage space. SI

Yes, but do you have it on a flash drive that can fit on a keychain? I didn't think so! |

I said "I doubt too many"- I'm sure some do. I've got 740 (300/300/80/60) myself on my main computer (not counting laptops, etc)

My friend plays COD online via PC. I wonder how many GB that takes in a month?

They've always had a hidden limit where they'd cut you off, every once in awhile you'd hear about someone getting bitten, but Comcast would never provide numbers. Seems to me they are now finally telling us what the limit is. And that was what customers were asking for, as detailed in the announcement.
Gaming, I believe, takes up a relativley very small amount of bandwidth. Last edited by jeff061 : 08-31-2008 at 03:22 PM. |

Is there something to be said for limited, "tiered" internet usage if you're some who mostly just surfs the web? I mean, are we just subsidizing the pirates?

Gaming does take a small amount of bandwidth. You could have people rotating to play COD or WOW 24 hours a day and never come close to the 250GB limit. In fact, I'd be surprised if 24 hours a day for a whole month of online gaming took up even 10% of the limit.
I'm very much against download limits from ISPs, but 250GB is a LOT of data. In pirate terms, it would be pretty close to 1 BR movie a day, or 1 Xbox360 game a day, or between 10-20 ripped TV shows a day. I'm sure people could go over those daily limits, but it would be hard to keep that up for a whole month to go over the monthly limit. |

Gaming uses very little, especially an MMO where you need to be able to have many people see the same thing, regardless of their connection speeds. WoW transfers from 1kb/sex to 5kb/sec. If you take the average, 2.5kb/sec, which is probably higher than your true average, you get ~216 megs per day if you played it nonstop. 30 days would make it 6.48gigs. Even if you did 5kb/sec, that'd only be ~13 gigs a month.
