yep...a lock if OU can beat Texas Tech and Oklahohma State, Kansas gets past Iowa State, and Missouri takes care of Kansas State over the next two weeks. If that happens, the Big 12 will have a top 2 team...undisputed in the polls and the BCS standings. Last edited by sooner333 : 11-16-2007 at 12:46 AM. |

Will whoever wins the mnc this year be the worst championship team of all time? It's even worse than last year.

Wow. It would seem a SEC/B12 title game is all but assured at this point. So much for all that Pac-10 chatter in the Week 11 thread yesterday.
If you would have told myself and the rest of the MU fanbase before this season that I would have ever seen the day that Mizzou controlled their own destiny in regards to reaching a national championship game, I obviously would have laughed. Only thing I would have found more unbelievable would be that Kansas would be in the same position in my lifetime. Forget the BCS. Mizzou and KU's single elimination playoffs start this weekend. I saw the MU/KU ticket prices just skyrocketed overnight. You couldn't give me enough money to sell my 4 tickets. I attended the #1 vs. #2 matchup of MU/KU on the hardwood in 1990. That game is dwarfed by the importance of the game at Arrowhead next week. |

It's funny to me that even in a season with huge upsets just about every week that everyone is still ready to say it's all locked up with a bunch of games left. I do agree that SEC/B12 is the most likely outcome, but I also wouldn't be shocked if neither made it. |

Obviously, the SEC end of it is the one that would be on the thinner ice. With B12 teams (assuming they win this weekend) at spots 2-4, a hiccup by one of them still means there's a couple left for the other teams to jump. A loss by LSU obviously throws things into turmoil. The B12 teams all face each other and will sort out their championship candidate all on their own. |

A loss by LSU probably makes it B12 champ vs. W. Virginia. I would guess Ohio State is still in line behind W. Virginia, should the mountain men lose.

That makes them like pretty much every other fan base now. I agree with JoninMGA. Back when rushing the field used to be a rare thing that only happened in huge games when the emotion took over, it was one thing. Now, it is basically foreseeable that fans are going to rush the field after any big game. So, rushing is kind of lame, and people get hurt by it. No reason to have it around anymore. Just dock scholarships from a team when its field is rushed. Put them burden on the schools to keep it safe. You will see the problem go away overnight. |

Mizzou fans have thankfully graduated from that problem. In past years, when we did something like beat KU at home, the students would rush the field. People would complain in the media and on message boards that Mizzou fans needed to act like they expected to win the big games. Thankfully, they didn't rush the field this year when we beat Nebraska. Then again, MU has done that three straight times at home, so maybe trends are changing. |

I think Arizona State, should they win out, gets in ahead of Ohio State and possibly ahead of WVU. Ohio State has only one game remaining, and should they win it, their best win is going to be against either a 4-loss Michigan or 3-loss Penn State (who should win this week and be in the upper teens of the rankings). West Virginia has an advantage over Ohio State, in my opinion, because they play three more games. Two of the games are against teams comprable or favorable to Michigan/PSU, in Cincy and UConn (although that could change if they slump in their other remaining games). I think WVU and Ohio State's losses are fairly even, with the slight edge going to WVU because Ohio State lost at home. Arizona State is pretty similar to the above two, in that they haven't really beaten anyone that impressive, but their loss is to a quality Oregon team on the road (although it was by 12-points). If ASU can knock off USC, that would give them a marquee win. Their fate, if they remain undefeated may come down to how Oregon and USC finish the season. Oregon (without Dixon) and USC (with a game remaining against Jeckyl and Hyde UCLA) could lose again and slide down the polls, hammering ASU's computer ratings. |

ASU can get there, but it's going to take a lot of help to do it. My thinking is just win on Thursday vs. USC and you control the Rose Bowl (sorry but they aren't losing to uofa).
Oregon w/o Dixon vs. UCLA is going to be an ugly game. Oregon has one healthy WR, a pretty good TE, a one legged QB in Leaf (who should be healthy by next week) and a stud RB who w/o Dixon is the person defenses shut down. While UCLA has a 4th string converted WR playing QB and a third string RB and a head coach none of their fans want anymore...however if they win one of their next two they become bowl elligible. USC vs. UCLA is a win for the Trojans IMO...Pom Pom Pete won't let them win two in a row especially if ASU beats them too. |

Nobody will be rooting harder for Nevada tonight than those Sugar Bowl executives with the funky yellow sport coats. They are looking at a potentially nightmarish financial scenerio with the 3,000 or so fans that Hawaii would bring to the 72,000 seat Superdome.

If Hawaii goes to the Sugar, the Sugar Bowl better hope that LSU loses to Ole Miss or Arkansas and wins the SEC so there will be people there to watch. If LSU goes, they'll have the first pick, would they take West Virginia? Georgia? Who would draw the most?

They had Border War shirts in Hy-Vee tonight. I almost grabbed one as I have 3 KU football shirts (Tangerine Bowl forever!) which I think is 3 more than anyone else in Lawrence has. But there's no way I was going to jynx things. If we win tomorrow, then I'll get a shirt but not until.

Congrats to Hawaii, it would have sucked to see the BCS go down the tube with your QB on the sideline (Oregon fans would probably agree).
Its starting to look like the winner of the Boise/Hawaii game is going to play in a BCS game. Should make for an interesting game. |

If Hawaii wins out, they will be in the Sugar Bowl. There is no way that Boise State will make it to a BCS bowl this year. They're 18th right now in the BCS rankings, they have a computer component of 0.40, and they play Idaho today (which will lower their computer ranking). Even if they beat Hawaii next week, there's no way that they get into the BCS top 12 to get the mandatory bid. |

Its still a possibility. The human polls will probably give a big boost to the winner of that game in an attempt to get them into a BCS game. Their computer rating is better than Hawaii's and they aren't too far behind them in the human polls. Assuming they get a push there they could finish in the top 12 if a couple teams sitting in the 8-12 range lose over the next couple weeks. Also, the BCS can't use more than 2 teams from a conference and the qualifiers have to be in the top 14. The BCS currently doesn't have any rules to cover a situation where not enough teams from BCS conferences qualify and speculation is they'll grant it to a non-BCS school if one hasn't received an automatic bid. This one is a long shot, but still a possibility right now. |

Well, "The Game" (or at least the snooty set will have you believe it is) between Harvard and Yale will actually mean something to both teams this year--as both teams are undefeated and playing for the conference championship.
The Yale Bowl is expected to sell out, and it should be an electric atmosphere. My wife will be in attendance, but I had already told her that I wouldn't be going--I decided to schedule myself a spa appointment instead! |

At KU, the students rushed the field after beating a 20ish ranked Mizzou team a few years ago. Then again, we haven't had much to rush the field about. Ever. I think I was there the last two times KU took down the goalpost. The first was beating KState for the first time in 11 years a couple of years ago and then the next year beating Nebraska for the first time in 38 years.

I looked it up as that caught my attention and it's that both are undefeated in the Ivy League. Yale is actually 9-0 on the season while Harvard is something like 7-2. SI
