The 2004 National Title Game!!!
This is what it is all about! The whole nation has been watching for the past
several week to see if the cream really does rise to the top. And, in this year at least, it seems to be the case! Tennessee used a pounding running attack and a 'bend but don't break' defensive approach to win the 2004 College Championship! Congratulations to the true champion Volunteers!!! Code:

Back To The Future 2005!!!
Start of a new season and the turning of a new leaf so to speak. As we look at the incoming freshman and our staff, we see the following needs for the new year and aims for recruiting.
STAFF! What can we say? We have fired the Syndicate Coordinator, Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator and the Mid-West Scout! So, four positions will have to be filled. PLAYERS! Incoming freshman are going to fill some holes with some immediate upgrades and some with potential. That said, we will be losing about 20 players at the end of the 2005 season, so we will not be able to completely fill our needs in recruiting. That said, there are some glaring needs! QB seems to be a must. Shultz did not develope well and there isn't anything in the cupboard. RB is ok, but the future is bleak! One RB would be a benefit. WR is better, but one more upgrade would be very useful. That said, we could bypass this position for other dire needs. C in a need. G is a dire need. We will need 2 this year, and recruits are better than walkons! T is a need. P/K is a need next year, but will not be top priority. (Duh!) DE is a DIRE need. We were unable to get one this past year and now we will need 2 this coming cycle. DT would be a nicety. ILB is a must. After this year the cupboard is bare. So, as you can see, we are still in the position of filling needs at Northwestern. This could be a longer rebuilding effort than first expected. |

2005 Roster Breakdown
While it doesn't look much better than the 2004 version, the 2005 Wildcats will be a somewhat different team than last year. With a new coaching staff and a few new faces, I would not count out a 3 win season,...... I wouldn't necessarily count it in though either!
Here we go........ Quarterbacks Code:
Shultz will be the starter. Andersen was going to be his backup this season allowing us to redshirt freshman Ted Harris, but Andersen is suspended due to grades in the spring semester and will be ineligible for the year. Harris will be a backup. Help is need here!! Running Backs Code:
Read will be the starting RB going into the season with the hopes of sparking some form of running game. The Wildcats have yet to record a 100 yd rushing day for any of their backs, so hopefully that will change with Read. Read will be backed up by last years starter Lowe. Gardner will again start at FB and freshman Charles Zaragoza will be redshirted. We will be targeting a RB this year in recruiting. Receivers Code:
Tight End is set with Belt as starter. Phillips is a capable backup, but TE is a need but may be overlooked in the recruiting cycle this year. WR got an upgrade this year with the addition of freshman Carlton Knight, who will start at flanker. Monroe will get the split end duties with the rest of the cast of millions providing support. Moreland and Reed will get a chance to develope this year as they will be redshirted. Also, Mitchell Willett is still recovering from a knee injury and will not be available this year. (I didn't have the heart to cut him) Offensive Line Code:
So that sums up the offense. We Need Help! |

2005 Roster Breakdown - Defense
Now on to the defense......
Defensive Line Code:
Linebackers Code:
Defensive Backs Code:
Kickers Code:
So, as you can see, we have a few new faces this year with new coordinators guiding them. I just want to see some improvement on both sides of the ball. And considering last seasons results, improvement won't take much. |

Week 2 Game Report
Central Michigan (0-0) VS Northwestern (0-0)
The Northwestern Wildcats start the 2005 season with an altered roster and new coaches at the helm. Will this make a difference? Time will tell. So how did this game go? The Wildcats start off with a big win at home!! We also accomplished a first as RB Read went over 100 yds rushing in a game,.... a first under present leadership. Let's hope we can build on this. Week 3 Game Report
Duke (0-2) VS #47 Northwestern (1-0) (-6)
Northwestern plays a second week at home. It would be great to pull this one off........ We do, in a big way! Granted, the past 2 weeks are against very weak teams, but when you are rebuilding and recruiting against the big boys, every win counts! RB Read has another big game as he goes over 200 yds rushing!! Code:

Those are 2 nasty losses.
It still looks like the Wildcats are turning the corner. And there's no shame losing to Wisconsin and Michigan.

Yeah, and to be honest, I'll be happy with one more win this season. All we can do is to keep chipping away.

Ouch! We head into the Ohio State game without our starting QB and both of our starting OLBs! Not good at all! (Nothing new on the recruiting front.)

Week 7 Game Report
Northwestern (3-2) VS #28 Ohio State (3-2) (-14)
The Wildcats will be going with the true freshman QB Ted Harris and a pair of backup OLBs. This does not bode well. Not to mention Ohio State will be looking for payback after losing to the 'Cats last year in their only victory. Let's see how bad it can get....... Bad! 28-0! Paybacks are a ...... well, you know! The freshman QB filled in ok for Schultz, but not good enough against a good team and stormy weather. RB Read just doesn't have room to run against good teams. All this equals the Wildcats 3rd loss in a row. Code:
