As for hockey, I really don't know much about the sport, but don't the Rangers outspend the Flyers on a yearly basis?

The Knicks....

But other than that, I agree that the majority of Philly fans are complete idiots.

Actually the Rangers spent far fewer dollars this year than the Flyers who pushed the salary cap to the max.

And the NBA is quickly becoming a slightly more popular version of the NHL.

Awesome first performance, but Pat Combs did have a nice stretch back in 89too (now thats old school).

Overall I'm very impressed. I'm always pessimistic, because the Phillies *WILL* find a way to mess this up, whether it be overusage, not enough useage, putting weights on his back, or something else that no other team in baseball would do. But with all of that said, I think this guy is the real deal. His minor league numbers are sick.

How exactly? You have to give up something for an all-star first baseman. The Mets did a good enough job capitalizing on Jacobs' aberration of a September, but I don't think they would've been able to trick the Marlins into taking another guy without much value.

I agree they shouldnt have done the Benson deal but nothing you can do about it now. As far as overpaying for Delgado, thats insane. As its already been said, hes an All-Star 1B and they gave up an average 1B (in my opinion anyhow) and a minor league SP. Sure Petit is supposed to do well, but it remains to be seen. I personally think he will be a back end of the rotation kind of guy. IIRC, his SO/BB ratio wasnt all that impressive, which usually doesnt result in great MLB success, but who knows.

Fine. Maybe they didn't overpay for Delgado, but they sure as hell gave up too much for LoDuca. He's playing decently this year, but they took back a huge contract. No one else was going to trade for him.

A second tier pitching prospect...Gaby Hernandez. Might've been some other guy included, but don't think he was anything of value.

Minaya has made some awful trades, highlighted by trading the entire Expos farm system for a 4 month rental of Bartolo Colon, which was followed up by trading Colon for 3 jobbers.

I was under the impression that Hernandez was one of our top 5 prospects. It's not my fault that Omar Minaya has never made a transaction where he hasn't overpayed, but I guess the same can be said for every Mets GM ever.

I remember that one now with Colon. In his defense the Expos were actually in the playoff race that yr, but i'll admit that was a terrible trade. I think it was Sizemore, Lee and Phillips??? I'm not too familiar with the other trades he has made prior to the Mets, but everything he has done to this point is fine with me. Beltran, Pedro, Delgado, Nady, LoDuca, Wagner, Sanchez. All he has given up is Petit, Jacobs, Hernandez, Cameron, and Seo (there may be others but these are the only ones of any importance). If that is overpaying then he can overpay all he wants.

What a start for today's game. Randolph continues to piss me off. My buddy argued with me that pitching Wagner vs the Yankees on Saturday was the right move b/c Randolph just wanted to win the game, which is understandable. Then by the same rationale he should've skipped today's sure loss with Gonzalez and pitched Pedro.

I was actually thinking that maybe, now this is a longshot and considering that Milledge just does so well they can't send him back down, that they would actually attempt to move Floyd since Milledge is supposed to be his replacement anyway. Few things on Milledge:

1. Jesus he stands far away from the plate.
2. Jesus that's a huge cross he wears.

Well, looks like Milledge is making a strong case to stay in the big show longer then expected. I dont know the extent of Floyd's injury now, but when him and Nady are back to full force, and assuming Milledge continues to be productive, they actually may have a more difficult decision than expected.
