I know there's alot of aura around hiring an ex-yankee, but do we really want him? No offense to him, but I think I could build a team if someone gave me $200 million to play with. He's signed some bad deals, and seems like got sloppy with his payroll because there really is no limit. |

I think he wasn't behind quite a few of the bad signings. Steinbrenner and his Florida group made quite a few of the bad signings happen. I think he has done some good things with the Yankees, and that if he had an owner who didn't override many of his decisions, he could show that he is an upper tier GM. |

I heard something about Thome and David Bell for Beltre. Probably just bullshit, but I love that from the phils perspective.

M's payroll the last couple of years has been around $90M, so I'd say we've got Wade beat for that distinction. |

Bavasi has made some dumb deals, but I don't think he's this stupid, and I would hope he's got enough credibility to convince ownership not to make this deal either. I suspect it's wishful thinking on someone's part. The M's would love a great left-handed power hitter, but to take on Thome and his contract at his age and given the state of the M's - bad deal. |

Zack Duke for one. I'm not a Pirates fan, but I've read there are some big prospects coming. |

Rumor on the Astros board is that Gerry Hunsicker, the Astros old GM, may be going to the Phillies. He's from that area originally and has said in interviews recently that he misses the game...

Wow. I hope the Phillies jump on that. Probably just a BS rumor. Heathcliff Slocumb isn't involved, is he? I'd like Cashman to take the job. Hunsicker wouldn't be too bad, either. Someone needs to come in and shake that team up.

Very interesting.
I think Macha is a pretty good manager. I was hoping he would land in Pittsburgh. Seeing this makes me think he was hoping for the same thing. |

I can't believe Cito Gaston still can't get a managing job. What a joke.

It's also interesting that in less than 20 years of existance (what is it now, 14 years) the Marlins have had 8 managers. That's crazy. It's of course, also crazy that they've won 2 world series titles too

Crazier still, they've won two World Series, but have never won a division title. Then again, the reigning title holders have won once despite winning the division for umpteen consecutive years. |

On Quite Frankly on ESPN, Stephen whatever his name is, said that there was a racial undertone to the hiring of Girardi from the Yankees. He said that if Girardi was black, he wouldn't have gotten the job after only one year of bench coaching.... What do ya'll think about that?

Cashman stays with the Yankees.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2204783 Have to say I'm surprised Cashman decided to stay. I guess he is not as tired of Steinbrenner as most people thought. |
