Surely you jest.

The Raiders have some of the best young corners in the game. They got Reynaldo Hill from the Cards in the offseason and have a young man named Carr who should contribute. We have one of the deepest set of corners in the game.

The best chance to beat the Patriots is early in the season.

If they can knock around Marvin Harrison they can knock around Moss. He'll still get his catches though.

I couldn't agree with you less.

Belechik has had weeks/months to prepare for this game.

Good point. But even TO got knocked around and he still had a great superbowl game and he wasn't even playing at 100%.

History suggests otherwise:

2004: first loss in week 8 (only 2 losses all year), BUT

2003: 2 losses in first 4 games (only 2 losses all year)
2002: 4 losses in first 7 games (9-7 overall)
2001: 3 losses in first 4 games (11-5 overall)
2000: lost first 4 games (5-11 overall)

It's all relative, given their success, but overall, it holds some water.

BTW, last time I checked, most quarterbacks still think twice about throwing his way. Especially when he's healthy (which he hasn't been the last two seasons).

I don't think they gameplanned around TO, thinking he would not be his usual self.

In the end, he had the numbers, but he didn't have the effect his stats would suggest

come up with a coherent point and I won't call you nuts

It's clear the plan is to outscore people in Oakland. They pretty much publically admitted that and the general consensus is that the Raider defense couldn't stop The Citidel.

Obviously some of you didn't see the Oakland/Minnesota game last year where Charles Woodson shut down Randy Moss.

Oh, and any Cincy fans out there? Your CB, Tory James (8 INT last year)? He was cut by the Raiders to make room for some of the CBs on the roster.

I'll give you that, there's not one DB on the Pats roster who will keep him in check. I'm only thinking that the schemes will do the job. Or at least, until BB proves me wrong, I'll keep betting on him

Good luck tonight anyway.

Which of your defensive backs has multiple Super Bowl rings? Do any of them have any Super Bowl rings? I mean, I know you've got a washed-up DT that has one, but I'm not sure who else.

I'm not amused either if you are bragging on Woodson for winning the Heisman in relation to the performace of the Pats secondary.

Tom Brady couldn't beat out Drew Henson at Michigan. Give me Kerry Collins!

wanna add that if there's one player on the Raiders that I want to see play well tonight, that's Randy Moss, as he's on my ff roster. So whatever happens, if he does bad and the Pats win, or if he does well, but the Pats still win I'll be happy

I saw an interesting breakdown in the Pro Football Prospectus of Moss' numbers on grass v. turf. He's a totally different player on grass; basically just a possession reciever. All 16 of the Raiders' games this year are on grass.

Now your argument and FM's argument go together. Whereas the Heisman is an individual award (I know, the team helps, blah, blah, blah, but it's given to one individual) and the Super Bowl rings go to a team, the only thing that I'm concerned about tonight is the defensive scheme.

There's also the matter of the Heisman is a college award, and the rings are an NFL reward.

One last shot: how many pro bowls have the CBs gone to and how many has Woodson gone to?

We're up to 85 posts and the game is 7 hours away. Add that to this being the only game on tonight, and this thread should easily break 400 posts by the morning.

Brady and Woodson are two of my favorites (Obvious Michigan connections) but regardless, I say (and hope for fantasy reasons) Brady torches CW and co, just so long as Deion Branch doesn't score.

I'm on the East Coast with 2 kids, meaning this game isn't even starting until about when I'm ready to go to bed. I might get to watch the first quarter, maybe the first half if I'm lucky. Stupid West Coast bias in NFL broadcasts...

I agree. I hate living here. At least in El Paso the games came on at a decent time. Also, they came on at 11 A.M. on Sundays instead of having to wait until after lunch (although you can't buy beer before noon so you have to make sure you stock up on Saturday).

I will be going to bed at whatever the time I need to go to bed, but I'll see that game through the end

And I have one 19 months old kiddo in the house and my wife works the night shift, so whatever happens overnight I'm on my own

Oh, and I'll be up at 5:20 tomorrow morning GO PATS!!!

FM

PS: I may try to sneak in a nap from about 7, when kiddo goes to sleep, to kickoff time

Central Time is the best, but I couldn't live on the West Coast and much prefer the East Coast. I hate that all of the early baseball/hockey games are over by the time I'm ready to watch sports, and all I'm left with are the games that end by 10pm. I live for the uninterrupted nirvana that is the 10pm - 1am Sports Zone. And, I like that football games don't start until 1pm on Sundays, so that I've got plenty of time to go to church and get chores done before the games begin.

This should provide more fodder for this thread:

OZZY OSBOURNE To Perform At Tonight's 'NFL Opening Kickoff 2005' Concert? - Sep. 8, 2005

According to the Boston Herald, Ozzy Osbourne will be tonight's (Sept. 8) special guest at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts for "NFL Opening Kickoff 2005" — a one-hour pregame special airing on ABC at 8:00 p.m. ET. The show, which will feature additional live performances by GREEN DAY, SANTANA, TRISHA YEARWOOD, MAROON 5 and KANYE WEST, will lead into the season opener between the Patriots and Oakland Raiders at Gillette Stadium (ABC, 9:00 p.m. ET). Ozzy will reportedly perform "Crazy Train" from atop the New England Patriots football helmet whilst Tom Brady & Co. come running through onto the field.

The Boston Herald reported on Wednesday (Sept. 7) that Ozzy was spied getting off an elevator at the Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common, Tuesday, and word around the hotel was that Osbourne was off to the Sports Club/LA.

The answer to the question: Why is the switch to the 4-3 so important to the Raiders? The biggest reason is Oakland is loaded with DT's and thin on lb's as they were last year. The bigger reason, and mark this down, is Warren Sapp will be switched back to his original position and since the switch has been resembling the monster he used to be instead of the fish out of water he was last year.

The answer to the question: Why is Jordan suddenly the biggest addition for the Raiders? Because without Jordan last year the Raiders could not run. He as a back up accounted for more yards than the Raiders leading rusher. He is solid and will have a break out year.
