And dammit it looks like Kevin Kaesviharn is going to start at safety this year because Kim Herring is lost for the year it seems. Kaesviharn blows.

Between Housh and this safety, I'd hate to be the Bengals' PBP man.

From the Falcons website:

Quote:
In anticipation of the Tuesday, August 30, NFL mandatory cut down to the 65-player roster limit, the Atlanta Falcons announced today that seven players have been waived.
The Falcons waived veterans G Martin Bibla, FB Carey Davis, P Toby Gowin, DE Otis Grigsby, CB Christian Morton, DE John Taylor, and rookie TE Brian Casey.

Bibla, 6-3, 306 pounds, played in 31 games with two starts for the Falcons since being drafted in the fourth round of the 2002 draft out of Miami.

Also, there has been a little bit of talk radio blabber about Peerless Price. Speculation is that Dez White and Mike Williams are the projected starters, and that the coaches don't really care for Price. Considering his salary, he is pretty much untradeable, so there is some conjecture that the Falcons might take the cap hit and let Price go.

I don't see it happening, but there has been some talk about it, so I thought I'd toss it out there.

Dez White as a starter? Price must REALLY suck.

I'm probably biased as a UT fan, but I'd LOVE for the skins to pick up Price... I think he gets a bad rap..

Yeah he's overpaid, but he's a good receiver...

Does anyone know if DT Lorn Mayers has survived the cut in Oakland? He's a twenty year-old kid from London (the youngest player to have ever been signed by an NFL team, I hear), and has only been playing football for about two years. I'd love to see him do well over there.

I haven't seen any news from the Raiders yet.

You might want to check their homepage here. Most of the teams have been updating their transactions through their official sites in the past couple of days.

The impression I get is that Price is more of a stretch the field type receiver, whereas the Falcons offense favors short route/possession type recievers (hence Finneran's success). I think Price was in a great situation in Buffalo where he had Moulds as the #1 and was able to take advantage of single coverage, usually against the weaker of the cornerbacks. He simply wasn't/isn't a #1, even though the Falcons tried to make him one.

Local word is that the Redskins have cut WR Darnerian McCants, who had been a decent redzone target for them in the recent past. Six of seven TDs a couple seasons ago, as I recall. Not a huge find, but I wouldn't be shocked to see the Iggles have a look.

Your impression is missing the fact that his hands are some unique blend of granite and diamond. He couldn't catch a cold.

Interesting...

I would agree with Buzzer's assessment totally. He was put in a situation as the #1 where he failed....

He is a very good #2 option...

Or even a three. I would have loved to see him in the slot. I guess they felt 1) It is better to take the hit now than continue to pay him, and/or 2) His attitude would not have held up if he wasn't starting.

Hate to see the Cowboys cut Jamaica Rector, from my alma mater and D-II school, NW Missouri State. I was hoping he'd hang on with the team and turn into the new Rod Smith, from Missouri Southern.

ESPN.com is reporting Warrick is heading to Seattle Tuesday for a visit, and also has interest from Tampa Bay, the Giants, Colts, and Packers.

I'd love to see Peter go to the Seahawks, almost the best fit for him.

"Also Tuesday, the Bengals ended the season of safety Kim Herring (shoulder) when they put him on injured reserve to get down to the mandatory 68 players by 4 p.m. Tuesday. They also waived two players, third-year cornerback Terrell Roberts and rookie guard Kyle Takavitz, and added veteran safety Ifeanyi Ohalete and veteran linebacker Hannibal Navies."

Wow! Nice, two players I actually recognize. Even though I don't know if Navies will make the list of 53, our depth at LB is so deep.

A question for Bengals fans: Who is going to be the #3 receiver for the Bengals? I'm hopeful that down the road it'll be Chris Henry, but who is he battling for the spot?

I'm pretty sure it will be Kelley Washington, he has earned it for the past two years. Plus, he has the coolest endzone dances in the league, so he wins.

Shorty, I couldn't find the source, but yesterday I read that Washington had earned the #3 job, but that Henry was knocking on the door. I hope Henry does some good things for the Bengals... when they are not playing the Steelers.

I didn't know Reggie Love was playing football. I used to see him at my favorite restaurant on 9th Street (near Duke).

Yeah, I guess he was a WR at one point in college before turning to basketball. He put on a bunch of weight, and the Cowboys thought he'd be a project at LB. Apparently, he has some talent and will likely be a practice team guy for Dallas.

No doubt in my mind Henry will get PT this year, and soon could replace Kelley as the #3, while Washington is only in his third year, he's already 26.

ESPN NFL Index headline - Warrick not unemployed long, signs with Seahawks

The link is dead, but it's a headline. I hope it's true, he will probably be a starter on the Seahawks. In Madden 05 I was unbeatable with the Seahawks, maybe with Warrick it can happen again.

I just want to see him do well.

If Warrick signs on with the Seahawks, even if he can be a productive #3 guy, I'll be quite happy. Does mean we have a ton of #3 guys on the team (Engram, Warrick, Joe J., Pathon), so hopefully one of them steps up to be a solid #2, but I think a large load is going to be on Jackson's shoulders to get rid of the drops this year and really carry the aerial attack.
